Who else to cheer on this weekend

Just beat the hell out of A&M.

Look, Lou Holtz is still foaming at the mouth, so there must be a lot of football to be played yet.  Consider the different components of strength of schedule.  Yes, the computers will blow their wad over adding an OSU win to blowU’s body of work and won’t get too excited about a Texas blowout of TAMU.  But in a scenario where every one-ten thousandth of a point counts (and we love the BCS for this – actually ESPN loves the BCS for this), what are the other interesting games besides Thursday night and Saturday?  I present to you the Longhorn’s guide to rooting interests.

Texas has a few non-con opponents still in play as well as Big 12 North teams not shared with OU(sucks).  They are FAU, UTEP, Arkansas, Rice, Colorado, Missouri.  Four wins here are possible with the added sweetness of LSU taking on in the shorts from the Hogs.  In addition, as weak as it is, I’d liked to see TAMU’s SOS get juiced up wherever possible, so root for Miami to beat NC State and Arkie State to take down Troy.  I'm not sure how much that will help because the farmers a common opponent with OU(sucks).

To see the land thieves’ schedule take a hit, root for Cal (they play Washington) and Syracuse to beat Cincinnati (hey, it could happen).  Also, CU beating Nebraska is a double help in this area.

The following wins will also reduce OSU’s SOS:  Rice (helps us) and Arkie State (helps TAMU).  Whether or not you want OSU’s SOS to weaken is a whole other discussion that is being explored in other posts.

Just to be safe, you may also consider becoming a temporary athletic supporter for the following programs: Florida State and West Virginia (helps CU), Utah State and Virginia (hurts Nebraska), and - finally - Rutgers (hurts K State).

Of course, we’re ALL Baylor Bear fans as a win for them in Lubbock and a win for the good guys in Austin makes all other considerations moot.

It's tough to think of all of the scenarios

without having the aggie game in our back pocket. Should we beat them? Hell yeah but it’s not set in stone. It’s like a kid going to bed on Christmas Eve and knowing without a shadow of a doubt that he’s going to get his most wanted toy and then waking up to find out that “Santa had too many toys to carry in his bag so he couldn’t get you everything you wanted even though he knows you were good this year.” I’m listening to everything but if we don’t win out then all of our rampant posting and arguing with Tech and OU fans will be for nothing.

Hook ’em horns, Go bears, Go cowboys. Go ’noles. Go beavers. Go Auburn.

And go Trojans

They can’t pass us, and their continuing to win keeps them as a wedge between us and Tech if OU loses this weekend and Tech gets to and wins the Big XII championship.

Great point.

And, I want USC to be in the Fiesta Bowl. A loss to ND might knock them out. I want a Big 12 team to play them….

i'm rooting for...

Florida State…

Currently Florida is a big wedge between us and oklahoma in the human polls. If we stay within one rank of the sooners in both human polls, our computer ranking will offset what the human voters are trying to do. which is put some distance between oklahoma and us, it seems.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
