Question - redshirt/greyshirt list
I've searched quite a few times for any list, even an out-of-date one, of 2008 UT redshirts, but I've still not seen one. Does anyone know of such a list, or does anyone just KNOW who the redshirts are? How about greyshirts?
I do know that Irby is getting to redshirt this season, which is great. And although he's in a different category, I know the Shipley is probably going to receive a medical redshirt and sixth season of eligibility.
Who are the redshirts? So far I think I've identified these guys: D.J Monroe, D.J Grant, DeSean Hales, Jeremy Hills, Dravannti Johnston, Antoine Hicks, Jarvis Humphrey, Tre Newton, Ryan Roberson, Luke Poehlmann, Mark Buchanan, and Justin Tucker.
These are some guys I think might qualify, but could have burned their redshirts when I wasn't looking: Kheeston Randall, Nolan Brewster, and Brock Fitzhenry.
So...anyone to add/subtract from these lists?

I should add that I’m a bit perturbed that they burned a season of Buckner’s eligibility for the five receptions he has on the season.

3 Reasons to burn his redshirt
1. He wasn’t that far behind Malcolm Williams Coaching staff wanted a big physical receiver and M. Williams hadn’t seperated much from Buckner when the season started. (That begs the question as to what about Webber, but that’s another topic). Also, remember Buckner graduated early and was there for spring practice.
2. Need to get some seperation of classes with all of the WR’s that signed last year.
3. Hoping to spead up the learning curve that Limas went through by getting him into some real games.

Jeremy Hills
He’s played this year in mop up duty with Chiles. No redshirt there.

Jeremy Hills has played, as has Kheeston Randall. Nolan Brewster has played on special teams. I’m pretty sure Tucker has played some.
The rest are probably redshirting.
As for Dan Buckner burning his shirt, he’s likely too talented to stay for five years anyway.

tucker has definitely played – he does the running to the right punt sorta thing that has worked so effectively. He also handles kick off duty most of the time.
j. hills has burned his. I haven’t seen fitzhenry do anything yet but I suppose it’s possible he has been in games w/o me noticing him.
And I believe Antoine HIcks failed to qualify academically, soo…. don’t know what became of him – if he got it together and became eligible or if he went another path.

Tucker has done KO's all season, plus some of the rugby punting.
No redshirt there, I promise.

Well, it’ll be interesting to see what contribution they can get out of Hales, Monroe, etc. next year. It’ll probably be tough for Hales and Grant to get much PT, what with Shipley, Malcolm, Collins, Buckner, Kirkendoll…oh yes, and of course Blaine Irby. This makes me smile. I think this means maybe Mack can focus a little more on getting the RBOTF and some young defensive linemen in recruiting.

Maybe
The only other one who I still haven’t seen anything about is Fitzhenry – he seems like a candidate to be redshirted – a physically smaller player who will be switching positions from what he played in HS.

Fitzhenry redshirted
I’m not sure why there was any question about this.

Irby redshirting this year is not a done deal
If he decides to stay for a 5th year he can petition for it, but it’s far from a slam dunk as he played extensively in the first few games this year.
On a side note I saw him standing without crutches while the team was warming up last night so that is a very good sign for next year.
No one is greyshirting this year. Rumor was that WR Blaker Emory was offered as a greyshirt but declined. He is now committed to Tech.

Mack seems to think it's a slam dunk
My understanding is that a player cannot obtain a medical redshirt if he’s played in more than 20% of his team’s regular season games when he has his season-ending injury. 20% of a 12 game regular season equals 2.4. How does the NCAA handle this? Do they round? Or that does mean the second quarter of the third game of the year? Irby’s injury occurred in the 3rd quarter of the Longhorns’ third game of the year, technically a bit past the 20% mark of the regular season. I’m pretty sure that they’re a bit more liberal than that in their interpretation of 20%, though I’m not sure.
