Defensive Backfield
Would anyone have believed me at the onset of the season that the biggest liability in the defensive backfield was going to be Deon Beasley? I can't believe how uninspiring his play is on a weekly basis - and I thought he was going to be hands down the best corner we had. Obviously there must be something goin on in practice that I don't get to see where he shows that he deserves to be on the field but honestly from what I see during the games I'm about ready to send him to the bench in favor of A. Williams.
Speaking of Aarron did last night's near block mark the 3rd or 4th time this year where he has not-quite-blocked-a-punt? somebody needs to show him how to put a palm on the ball.
Lastly, was the Colt's sister or girl next to his parents last night? If it was his sister - well done mr. and mrs. McCoy. And if it's his girl - atta boy colt

Coverage
People often tend to shortchange coverage guys that don’t make plays and get beat a couple of times – they don’t get the ball thrown to thier man and that’s largely because of thier coverage ability. I think Beasley gets some bad rap for a few bad plays a game, but generally speaking he sticks well.
That said, there is absolutely no effing excuse for missed tackles. Its not hard to fix bad tackling, high school coaches drill this into your head. Tackle poorly, and you’re getting benched.

I know what your saying
Nobody says “oh look at beasley’s coverage on the other side of the field nobody was looking at”, we tend to notice the negative. However, there was one pathetic excuse for a tackle on the goodson run where he tried to dive, but missed, only getting his arm on him, which bounced off hilariously. I was like "ohh poor deon, how embarrassing.
On a related note, can NOBODY in the backfield catch an interception? ANYBODY? Curtis Brown, Palmer, Gideon, Thomas? How many dropped picks have we seen. At least they are young mostly.

Tackling
Yeah, like I said, there is no excuse for bad tackling. Good tackling is often underappreciated. Open field tackles should always be a given. No excuse for letting your man break free if you’ve been coached to wrap up his legs (okay Crabtree is a bit different, but still…).

Barking Carnival came to the same conclusions.
Damn good coverage, but when Deon gets burned, he really gets burned, and his tackling ability has gone to hell. He tackles this year like someone with a bad shoulder; he never gets square and lets his shoulders deliver the blow. As a former safety, there is just no excuse; at the least, you can hit and stick until help comes.
If this continues, he’ll seldom see the field next year. Too much of a safety’s responsibilities lie with making the sure tackle.
Which leads to something else: the basic training of dbs and safeties is to drill into their consciousness making the sure play, breaking up the play and knocking the ball away. The second part is making the sure tackle, not going for the possible big hit and risking the big play. Once this is a fundamental part of their knowledge, then jumping routes and looking for interceptions comes into play. These guys all look like they’re not looking for INTs and don’t ball hawk like an experienced secondary would. They’ve been unlucky with the balls that have come their way, perhaps not realizing just how important to the team those INTs are. They need to increase their field and game awareness.

This has been a pattern under Akina
For some reason almost all of our DB’s have had the same issues – lack of interceptions, lack of turning to look for the ball, etc.

Deon
Deon is afraid of contact, he’s not just a lazy/poor tackler. On his sack, he was running at Johnson with a free shot, then turned at the last second to only swipe him with his arm. Unless you can bench 400+, it’s incredibly difficult to hold on with one arm like that. Beasley is lucky Johnson obliged and fell over. You saw the other big missed tackle that Deon made.
As far as coverage: No one else got completely burned by an Aggie receiver. I think Deon needs to receive a message: Tackle and cover or you’re no use to us. I like Deon, and I was as excited as anyone else about how good he was supposed to be this year and next, but unless Muschamp/Akina can teach him to enjoy delivering a blow, I don’t think he’s ever going to see his full potential.

Colt's Girlfriend
Yup, that is Colt’s gal pal. This news broke after the Missouri game as many people were curious about the blonde sitting near his dad. Goggle “Colt’s Girlfriend” and you will find this info. She is a track star for Baylor and reports sports here in Austin for her internship.

Beasley is no chump or anything
But compared to the expectations we had for him for this year, he’s been somewhat disappointing. At this rate, he’s going to be surpassed by all of our younger corners and see reduced PT next year.
