Tech-Baylor 4th Quarter Open Thread (aka OMG!!!1! Go Bears!!!11!!1)
Bama is predictably destroying a terrible Auburn team, and Florida is likewise beating up on the Seminoles. But alas, there is hope! Your adopted fightin' Baylor Bear football team is leading Texas Tech 28-21 heading into the 4th Quarter. If the Bears win, whatever happens in Stillwater tonight means absolutely nothing to Texas, as the Horns will be headed to Kansas City regardless. And a win in Kansas City unequivocally sends Texas to Miami. So the moral of the story is: SIC 'EM BEARS!!!

this hurts them with any voters that are watching (on VS., not likely). maybe if OSU wins tonight, this helps keep us in front of Tech. getting blown out by OU, then struggling at home against Baylor. not a great way to finish off the season.
also, the showing today makes it seem possible that they could actually lose to Mizzou. time to root for the Cowboys.

Refs
took away two turnovers for baylor… Amazes me that two bad calls (and a bunch of no calls) cost texas a spot in the title game.. I hope those refs burn in hell.

really though
at the end of the day, this was a LOT closer than it should have been. Tech is red-faced right now for trailing through three quarters at home to Baylor, when they’re trying to make a claim to one of the top two spots. OSU winning tonight should absolutely punch our ticket to Miami.

There is NO way Tech will jump over a 1 loss Texas. 39-33 at home at night in last second won’t be enough for them.

Terrible coaching job in second half by Baylor
Griffin is a premier playmaker. Tech knew this and still couldn’t stop him yet you largely choose to ignore his playmaking abilities in the second half? Coaching 101: let your playmakers make plays.
by ryanlionrah on Nov 29, 2008 5:52 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I saw we root for OSU.
Everytime we root for someone, they do something we don’t want them to. So OSU will probably lose to OU, but just barely. That’s my plan.
by Horn Brain on Nov 29, 2008 5:54 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Just a side note...
Mizzou lost to Kansas… it would hurt us very much if OU win tonight,
but it would defnitely help us if Tech goes to Big 12 Title against 9-3 Mizzou. (instead of 10-2 Mizzou).
by austinite on Nov 29, 2008 5:56 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
i cant see why we would root for OU
if OU wins, they go to the big 12 champ, stomp missouri, and head to miami.
if they lose, they are out, tech goes to kansas city and wild speculation ensues.

Texas Tech is not a good football team
We choked in Lubbock, plain and simple.
by andy_wooster on Nov 29, 2008 6:11 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Wouldn't call it a choke
A choke is when you’re winning and then blow it (like Baylor). We just didn’t show up until midway through the third.

by Microtonal on Nov 29, 2008 6:12 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I think losing to a markedly inferior team
when that team is all that stands between you and the BCS title game is a choke.

It's a bad loss, yes...

by Microtonal on Nov 29, 2008 6:27 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Well technically...
We were winning and then blew it. So that would make it, by any definition, a choke job.
by jw4425 on Nov 29, 2008 6:27 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
It's not a choke if you had to come from behind to get the lead in the first place.
If we’d have held on, it would have been a choke on their part.

Let's remember...
how hyped up Tech was for the biggest game in the program’s history. And that it was the end of “the gauntlet”. Football is an emotional game… it matters.
I certainly think it was a disappointing loss, but not a choke.

should just be given a loss.

Defintion of "choke" according to Webster's:
“Blake Gideon with :08 left to play in Lubbock on Nov. 2, 2008.”

Wouldn't this hurt us though?
If Oregon wins, that makes USC the Pac – 10 champ, no?
If Oklahoma State beats OU tonight, that puts Tech in the Big 12 Championship Game.
Assuming Tech loses (or even if Tech wins some might argue), the argument is that we are in the MNC game.
But with USC winning the Pac – 10, won’t all the media talking heads try to argue you can’t put Texas in the MNC game since they didn’t even win their conference?
I just want to eliminate that argument.
Therefore, we need Oregon State to beat Oregon.
by Top Jimmy on Nov 29, 2008 6:41 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Well they are already talking about
how if OU loses and Tech wins the Big 12 title game, that Tech should jump over Texas and go to Miami.
by HookEm34 on Nov 29, 2008 6:44 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I hate to say it, but I can't argue with that argument.
As much as I want Texas to go (and I think Texas will still go even in the scenario you mention above), I can’t disagree with that argument.
Tech beat us. Assuming they win the Big 12; they beat us head-to-head AND won the Big 12. Can’t argue with that.
But, I still think we go to the MNC because of Tech’s computer averages. I don’t think/know if they can pass us in BCS, especially considering Mizzou is now 9-3.
And this example highlights how bad the BCS is. Playoff anyone?
by Top Jimmy on Nov 29, 2008 6:49 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I say go OSU and
let tech go to b12 game. unless they put up 70-3 on a now down and out Mizzou team, they arent Texas and arent going to get the votes to get to the NC game over us or anybody else for that matter.
