Yeah

And they kick a field goal to win when OSU fumbles running out the clock deep in their own end.

explain

Why everyone here believes that UT should go to the NC game if Tech wins the Big 12 championship and beating UT head to head. I am just interested to hear the logic behind this thinking besides the fact you are a UT fan?

"Once in awhile, a pirate can beat a soldier"

by crabtreeforheisman on Nov 29, 2008 6:36 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

not saying should, in my opinioni

but most likely will. Not sure how tech jumps UT without UT losing (which is not possible). Strength of sched in the computer polls + lower human poll rankings = Texas in national game

by derrumbe on Nov 29, 2008 6:38 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

that said....

close calls against Nebraska and a lackluster effort against BU does not help much

by derrumbe on Nov 29, 2008 6:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

agreed

they are talking about this right now on espn…guy says most likely Tech would go over UT

"Once in awhile, a pirate can beat a soldier"

by crabtreeforheisman on Nov 29, 2008 6:41 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

interesting

did he say how? human polling would have to push them over the top , right? b/c the computer numbers should not shift all that much , I don’t think.

by derrumbe on Nov 29, 2008 6:44 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

all he really said

was that UT focusing on head to head against OU right now will backfire if OU loses and Tech wins the Big 12. he didnt say actually how Tech will jump.

"Once in awhile, a pirate can beat a soldier"

by crabtreeforheisman on Nov 29, 2008 6:46 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

if tech went to and won the ccg against mizzou, then i dont really think Texas or its fans would be expecting to play in the MNC game.

however, i think you are misunderstanding the notion that Texas is interjecting with if Tech LOSES to mizzou in the ccg, then Texas should rightfully be in the MNC game.

If You See Kay, Oh You

by texfan23 on Nov 29, 2008 6:40 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Nobody wants a Tech team playing terrible in the MNC game.

You guys shot yourselves in the foot with that blowout loss and the Baylor debacle. Human voters (assuming they have minds of their own) would never let you in the BCS title game with such a poor end to the season.

by HornPossessed on Nov 29, 2008 6:40 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

that is a matter of opinion

tech is ranked 4 in the computer polls, only 2 spots below ut. beating mizzouri will only add to that ranking and i really think human voters will place tech in front of UT because they decided the outcome on the field so it is black and white for most unbiased voters

if tech does go and loses then UT should go for sure. However OU losing tonight is a long shot

"Once in awhile, a pirate can beat a soldier"

by crabtreeforheisman on Nov 29, 2008 6:45 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

It'd be pretty hard to ignore that loss though...

I agree you win the head-to-head and have a great argument, but let’s face it, you got embarrassed two weeks before voters will be deciding, then almost lost to Baylor. May not be fair, but I don’t see voters making a big swing, especially since pretty much everyone has already dismissed you from a 3-way tie conversation.

by jw4425 on Nov 29, 2008 6:49 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Why would the voters use the head to head argument for Tech over UT

when they didn’t do the same between UT and OU? It would be hypocritical to not use it when it helps Texas in favor of a “hot”, that’s the big buzzword for talking heads, OU but then OU goes down to OSU and then they say “well the hot team lost so let’s go by head to head now.” even though Texas is #2 in the country despite Tech beating Mizzou assuming they do that.

Tech was blown out by OU and had to rally to come from behind at home against one of the weakest teams in the conference. Tech would get decimated against Florida.

by seth78 on Nov 29, 2008 7:34 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I will cut and paste a post I just posted on the other gameday thread

I hate to say it, but I can’t argue with that argument. As much as I want Texas to go (and I think Texas will still go even in the scenario you mention above), I can’t disagree with that argument.

Tech beat us. Assuming they win the Big 12; they beat us head-to-head AND won the Big 12. Can’t argue with that.

But, I still think we go to the MNC because of Tech’s computer averages. I don’t think/know if they can pass us in BCS, especially considering Mizzou is now 9-3.

And this example highlights how bad the BCS is. Playoff anyone?

by Top Jimmy on Nov 29, 2008 7:00 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I keep hearing

from OU fans the argument that OU is so much better now, and would crush UT, so a RRS Texas win doesn’t mean anything anymore. OU fans are illogical, and I HATE people who can’t apply good logic. Not to mention, OU just sucks – fact.

Gotta pull for the Pokes

Even if, worst case scenario, Tech jumps us and makes the NC, we can’t get worse than the Fiesta Bowl. But I don’t think they would, even if they probably should. I like those chances better.

But ultimately, it’s hard to know what would happen, so I’m just rooting against the Sooners.

Yeah, this is bad

(1) Will allow USC to claim the “conference champion higher ground” if it’s between us and USC if OSU wins tonight.

(2) If we miss out on Miami, means we play Ohio State (yuck) or Boise State (gag) in the Fiesta.

Speaking of the Fiesta, assuming OU or Texas goes to KC, wins and goes to Miami, is the “other” Big XII team in the BCS automatically locked into the Fiesta? Or is only the Big XII champ obligated to go to the Fiesta? If USC is out as a possible opponent, I would sure as hell go to the Sugar and play the SEC runner-up than play OSU or BSU.

by Hopkins Horn on Nov 29, 2008 7:37 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Fiesta

The Fiesta Bowl isn’t obligated to take another Big XII team, but they will get to pick a replacement for the Big XII team in the NC game. They will almost certainly take Texas.

making them work for it

great drive, just have to tip your cap. at least they are making ou work for their points, which is more than you can say about most teams they’ve played this year. gotta hope osu can keep scoring and out-physical them in the end like we did

seriously though, with the mizzou loss…..I’m pretty sure OU will now just edge us out in the computers. there would have to be a major shift in the human polls to have us up. we’re down 63 votes between the two polls. Need 32 voters to flip OU/Texas for us to have a shot if OU wins tonight

I can't wrap my head

around these facts and how they are being totally disregarded… 1) OU was #1 in the nation on oct. 11th, lost by 10 and at that time the voters thought so much of UT that we jumped from 5th to 1st, and OU only dropped to #4. Since then we’ve held all mutual oppenents to less points than OU, excluding TTU. 2) I think if we had a week off before TTU it would have been a different story. Instead, our schedule was rearranged by a hurricane, and we played 4 top 11 teams in consecutive weeks. 3) This year marked the first time the underdog won the RRS when both teams were ranked, meaning, we were supposed to lose and came out on top. For all of Stoop’s glory, he’s never upset Mack…also, Our SOS got a boost with Rice & Arkansas winning while UF’s biggest wins this year are to a 4 loss LSU team and a 3 loss Georgia squad. They both lost this weekend, does that also favor OU?
