Bedlam Second Half Open Thread

The early INT hurt OSU, but other than that, they've played the Sooners to a draw.

Pokes get the ball first in the second half. Let's see a drive worthy of a 40 year old man.

Fiesta

If OU wins out and with Oregon State choking who would we most likely get assuming Fiesta takes Texas?

by seth78 on Nov 29, 2008 8:51 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i think the two national title bowls pick first.

meaning, sugar picks first after losing AL/FL if ranked BCS #1, fiesta would get 2nd choice after losing OU/TX/TT.

after that, i don’t know the order.

bleeding orange up in nyc. get a rope.

by cwofford on Nov 29, 2008 8:55 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

After replacement picks

Fiesta, then Sugar, then Orange.
I would assume that Ohio State would be more desireable than Utah.

osu needs an x-factor or else

oklahoma has “solved” the osu defense. they were dominated early but really adjusted by resorting to the underneath stuff. steady, efficient, they won’t be as high flying as normal but it’s enough to get 35-40+ points on the board. as well as they’ve played, okie state needs to know they need a lot of points to win this game and play accordingly. unless they get some big plays from dez on special teams or the passing game i don’t think they can get to that number

At least this isn't a blowout

But if it wasn’t for Zac’s stupid interception, this is a tie game or even an OSU lead.

Anyone happy with the result? OU is winning, but it isn’t exactly a grand show they wanted to put on… yet.

It won’t be Utah, they’re going to Sugar. Texas would play Ohio State of Boise State if Oregon State loses

by silky51 on Nov 29, 2008 8:55 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I thinkUtah to the Sugar was based on an assumption that the Fiesta would take USC

If the Fiesta’s choice for a Texas opponent is Utah or OSU, I think they would take Utah. Remember that OSU has been to the Fiesta (or the BCS Championship Game in Glendale) four of the last six years.

OU's luck will run out soon

by hookemkp on Nov 29, 2008 8:55 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And that point differential crap was stupid

Don’t you think all three teams would have ballooned many of their scores if they knew that was a tiebreaker? We, for starters, would have definitely scored more against Kansas and A&M. I’m sure OU and Tech had several games where they could have ran it up. It’s a stupid point to put in right now.

i agree, stupid idea. let’s run up the score every week, just in case. plain wrong.

by zissou on Nov 29, 2008 8:57 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Exactly

It’s one thing to say “Team X” generally looked better than “Team Y” against common opponents.

But you can’t retroactively apply a specific point differential standard on a season when no coach was playing for that standard.

And on a go-forward basis, doesn’t that standard reward the team with the great offense rather than the team with the great defense just about every time?

by kjm017 on Nov 29, 2008 9:00 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So IF we end up in Fiesta, would you rather want Ohio State or Boise St?? Those will be the only 2 options.

by silky51 on Nov 29, 2008 8:57 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

We gain nothing by playing either one...

I want USC if Oregon St can pull it out. Beating USC gives us a shot at a split national championship. Anyone agree/disagree?

by HornsFaninCalifornia on Nov 29, 2008 9:00 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

AP National Championship

AP doesn’t count for the BCS, but the AP voters don’t have to vote with the BCS either. They can vote for us just to screw the BCS as well.

by HornsFaninCalifornia on Nov 29, 2008 9:05 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ONLY if

we’re ahead of OU in the AP tomorrow, but not in the BCS.

I posted about this in another thread. DO NOT root for this scenario, since the only way it can come true would require us to root for OU in the BCS Championship game, hoping that OU’s doing so doesn’t swing AP voters their way.

That would suck.

by kjm017 on Nov 29, 2008 9:03 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ah, good point.

would USC be an at-large in that scenario? i highly doubt the fiesta would be able to swing picking two of the hottest at-large teams to fill their bowl. somebody else is bound to snatch one of us if the other is picked, imho.

bleeding orange up in nyc. get a rope.

by cwofford on Nov 29, 2008 9:09 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'd rather have Ohio State

Even though Ohio State isn’t that grand this year, at least there is some benefit to playing them. Against Boise, it’s a no-win situation: If we don’t obliterate them, then we’re overrated. If they play us close or if they beat us like they did the Sooners, then everyone will talk about how the mid-major schools should go to the national title game. Blah blah blah…

by TheElusiveShadow on Nov 29, 2008 8:59 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And if we DO kill them

Then everyone will dismiss it: “Well, that was just Boise State.”

by TheElusiveShadow on Nov 29, 2008 9:01 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

We'd still have a shot at Split Championship if.....

OU plays Florida in the BCS championship. Not sure if AP voters would spring for us though if we had to play Ohio St or Boise St in the Fiesta. If Oregon State would rally to win, then we’d get USC and a win there could do the trick for a Split Championship

by silky51 on Nov 29, 2008 9:02 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What does this mean?

PB or anyone else,
Cincinnati won today and Mizzou lost. I am hoping for a close OU win and specifically Bradford doing nothing special in the win. However, what does the win mean to us. A kansas win helps us just as much as it helps OU doesnt it? Do we have a chance in the computers because to me it seems our only hope shifts to the human voters. Man I am worried. Any thoughts. Please someone comment…I dont have any finger nails or skin left…………………………..

We’re getting WAAAAY too far ahead of ourselves here talking about Fiesta opponents. The game we’re watching is close, and OSU can still win, or OU can win unimpressively enough that we’re #2 tomorroe.

USC will win another by 45 against an overmatched Big 10 team. Even USC wanted to go to the Fiesta (per the LA Times) so that they would have a chance at a split title against Texas/OU.

Only by voters suddenly jumping them over other one-loss teams

And if voters haven’t done so already, they won’t suddenly decide next week that USC is better than Texas or OU. I don’t believe in the existence of the Vast USC Media Conspiracy. If it existed, USC would be top 3 right now.

by seth78 on Nov 29, 2008 9:12 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This isn't looking good

Oregon is up by 20 in the 4th quarter. USC is now the Pac 10 champ. Get ready to start hearing about how USC belongs in the MNC game.

Even with an Ok State victory, this hurts our shot of making it to the MNC game.

Let’s say Mizzou beats Tech: All the country will say you can’t send Texas to the MNC game since they didn’t even win their own conference. USC must go over Texas. I bet the BCS voters vote USC ahead of us in this scenario.

I know I am getting way ahead of myself but the Oregon State loss really hurts us.

by TheElusiveShadow on Nov 29, 2008 9:11 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

and with Mizzou losing

it doesn’t really matter how the humans vote because the computers should favor OU just enough to bump OU over us. The only thing that helps us is OSU winning.
