tech fans prove they ARE Classless Clowns.
that's a shame, 'cause there ball team played a hell of a game. Yet, with one second remainging on the clock, the student body(?) rushes the field.
Then when its actually over, Mack cant get to leach for the well-deserved handshake and the Tech fans push Colt 'cause I mean you just gotta fuck with the other teams quarterback right? Eff Why, Tech
This just hit my NewsFire:
Texas coach Mack Brown opened his weekly news conference after Saturday’s loss at Texas Tech by calling for a clampdown on postgame security. Thousands of Texas Tech fans stormed the field at Jones AT&T Stadium after the game — actually, some of them jumped the gun and ran onto the field with one second still on the clock.
“It’s really, really dangerous,” Brown said. “It’s amazing, with all the talk about security, that we’ll turn everybody loose.”
Brown said that Colt McCoy was pushed by Tech fans. Brown said he wasn’t able to congratulate Tech coach Mike Leach and, for the first time at Texas, was unable to join the players near the Longhorn Band for the postgame singing of “The Eyes of Texas.”
Brown went out of his way to twice say that he didn’t blame those fans or the Tech officials who failed to control the situation. Rather, he called for Big 12 and NCAA rules to keep fans off the field after games.
“I’m afraid that in my lifetime there’ll be a tragedy, and then we’ll change the rules,” Brown said.
He complimented his own staff and players for their behavior on the field and in media interviews after the game. “All reports are they handled themselves well,” Brown said. “I really appreciate the class the team and coaches showed.”

Tech Fan.
I agree, I was at the game and getting so pissed at the Tech students about running on the field before the game was even over. I understand were Mack is coming from but there is only so much you can do as police and security. Remeber the ECU game and the abuse the police took for trying to stop fans. I was so pissed that the students cost Tech 30 yards in penalties at the end of the game.
That was a great game and it took something away from it for ME that they could not stay off the field. According to Mack’s comment what can you do, it happens all over college football and how can you stop the students with out getting security hurt. I understand Mack’s statement, but how do you stop it all over college football. From what I understand they had a plan to put up gates with security around but that fell through when they ran on the field before the F***ing game was over. Trust me that there is a lot for Tech fans that are pissed about it to.
Go Tech.

I agree Nance, and you GPD
But lets not hate. Yes that was bad, and in the future, now that we’ve been there, we should act like it.

Yikes
A lot of IFs here, but…
If I lived in Lubbock…
If I loved Tech football…
If my continually underestimated/trash-talked/underdog team just upset the #1 team (that they lost to the previous season)…
If the game winning play came with a second left on the clock…
I would storm the field, safety and security be damned.
I think part of this all was that Mack and the team were still so into the game and willing to give it one last push that once the final whistle blew, they were just kind of shocked and didn’t hustle off the field like most teams would do in a typical loss.
But classless? I don’t particularly see it that way. Still dangerous, yes.

Fans dont belong on the field while the game is on.
Stop the game until people get into the stands if you have to. They can rush when the game is over, give the other team a chance to get off the field. This game, the fans were practically on the field of play before the game was over. Mack is right, somewhere, sometime, an opposing player is going to get hurt unnecessarily.

Someone has been hurt with this sort of thing…in Madison, Wisconsin a few years back I believe a girl died from the crush of fans storming the field.
I have no idea how you prevent it. But somewhere in some shiny office, they need to figure this one out.

You line up security guards around the field.
It’s not mission impossible.

ok, fella, thanks
pushing Colt is classless in my opinion. Yes, I’m pissed we lost, but I have a right to express my anger.
this is where I choose to do it.

I just read the Statesman article
Read the comments by Texas fans at the game that were afraid for their lives and comments by some pac10 guests in attendance.
I have always heard to not go to a Tech game….
We should be proud of our fanbase. When my family was leaving the Red Rivalry game this year I was amazed…our fans were not ribbing the OU fans…no OU/Sucks and Texas/Fight. It was very respectful.

One kid pushes Colt and all Tech fans are somehow classless. That makes a TON of sense, doesn’t it.
One black guy punks a white guy and all black guys are trash. Same concept…think, people.
Tech had just beat the number one team in the nation – in the 9th week of a 12 week season. Tech fans knew that this game was the first key to holding our fate in our own hands. Tech had never beaten a #1 team, much less with the eyes of college football watching.
This was a BIG deal…we HADN’T been there before. Storming the field was emotion and passion and excitement, not lack of class. Bad timing? Absolutely!! Bad intentions? Not at all. There is a massive difference.

Illustration point
What I was trying to illustrate is that you can’t use a broad brush to paint an entire segment of people based on the action of just a few. Bad example, maybe, but the point remains the same.

I don't think it proves that they are classless...
I think Tech92 is right. They hadn’t been there before. The stadium was full of kids, college kids who were passionate, probably a little (or a lot) drunk, and who had never won a game like this before. I know that is no excuse for the taunting and harrassment of other fans, or the pushing of players by some idiots that EVERY school has- but they don’t really know what to do when they win that game, particularly in the manner that they won it. They have never done that before.
Now I wasn’t there. If this taunting was more than just the intermittent moron or lush, if it was rampant throughout the stands, then shame on Tech Fans.
I don’t think Mack was calling them out on it. I think he wants the NCAA to try and control the field until the game is over. To let the Coaches and players shake hands.
I still think this is one heck of a season. I think we are over-achieving. If you would have told me at the beginning of the season that we would be 8-1 after these 4 games, and we would be ranked #1 BCS for 2 weeks and #4 after this stretch…… I would have thought you crazy. I would have said “Are you talking about 2009?”
Now the way we lost is sickening. We could’ve won, and probably SHOULD’VE won. But we didn’t. So go Cowboys and Sooners! Give us some help and lets get the Conf Champ Game and see what happens. And I can’t wait for TTU to come see the 90+ thousand at DKR next season.

It's not the 1st time they've rushed the field either
I remember to times they’ve rushed the field vs A&M and one of which they carried the goal post into the visitor sections. In 2002, the fans rushed the field after beating #5 Texas. I think by now it’s just habit. Beat Texas or A&M in LBK while they’re ranked & chances are they’re going to rush the field.

should've won?
um…Tech dominated the stats and most of the game. Texas special teams brought you back from a probable blow out. Both sides made a bunch of mistakes. Neither were perfect. Both have to play the full 60 minutes. Crabtree made an amazing play. So how “should’ve” Texas won? It was an amazing game with two great teams.

Blake Gideon's missed INT. gg though
by BlinkOneGun on Nov 3, 2008 4:58 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Not to mention
Thomas’ poor pursuit on the final play. If he had come over and held Crabtree up with Brown and then forced him down/out of bounds the game is over.
But whatever, it was a great game, so I’m happy.
by HornPossessed on Nov 3, 2008 6:15 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Missed INT was BIG
If he catches that tipped pass for an INT…Texas gets the ball back w/ 8 sec on the clock and Tech had only 1 if any Timeouts at that time. That would have sealed it for Texas…so again we should have won, IF he makes that INT. He should have made that INT.
by LonghorninRaiderland on Nov 4, 2008 7:01 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Missed PASS was BIG
Tech receiver should have caught Harrell’s pass. Gideon shouldn’t of had that opportunity.
by techsan on Nov 4, 2008 8:32 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
you're right...
no other mistakes by both teams…should’ve, would’ve, could’ve. Mistakes are part of the game. Texas still had a chance to stop Tech from scoring. They didn’t stop them.

Texas was worn down.
I think it was obvious that UT was tired as hell from the last three weeks of playing “Biggest Games Ever.” I honestly feel that if UT had played Tech first in the series of four games, they would have won that game. I also feel that if Texas had a bye week to rest a bit after the run of 3 Top 10 games (with two on National TV and 2 with Gameday atmosphere) they would have beat Tech.
I’m not trying to be a sore loser. And, your points are well taken. Texas just happened to have a murderous run of games, and I think it caught up with them. We started to see it in the fourth quarter of the OSU game but I think most of us just hoped that it was a mirage.
I don’t see Tech beating both Oklahoma teams. Not because Tech isn’t good enough to do it, because they are, but I just don’t think any team can accomplish what Texas was forced to try and do. Luckily, for Tech, you guys somehow have a bye week before the Oklahoma game. That will be huge.
Anyway, it was a good game. Time to close the book on it though.

Been pondering this
a little bit more. If you are a player on Team A, don’t you want the fans of Team B to be a little intimidated (scared) to come to your stadium? Don’t you think it may give you a bit more of the homefield advantage if the other fans are scared to make much noise out of fear of getting their ass kicked?
I guess a big part of me doesn’t like the reputation Tech fans have for their behavior (most of it is urban legend, eg. throwing batteries). But another part of me is kind of not too worried about it. I don’t necessarily want the bad guy to feel real comfortable in my house.
Not advocating a mob mentality and hurting people at all…just a little intimidation. Someone has to wear the black hat…may as well be us. The voters and computers this week didn’t seem to mind the Tech fans.

Are you advocating threatening violence to have a better home field advantage? Priorities are out of whack there buddy.

you build on the legend by, signing on sites like this and telling lies
Is that threatening?
Your own fans did it like that…which is great, cause obviously you are scared of me and you don’t even know me. I hope never come to Lubbock with your preconcived ideas about us.
Now, if you come without them, you will be treated accordingly. If not, beware!

My take
I attended and was treated well by Tech fans before, during, and after the game. I expected much worse, and was pleasantly surprised. Yes, they were very vocal in their support of the Raiders. Yes, there was taunting and “we beat you” crap after the game, but nothing serious. They just had their biggest win in the history of the program. They deserved to celebrate. The rushing the field is a bit of an issue. There were 1000s of kids on the field, and it is a safety issue. NCAA and the Big XII need to do something.

So you're saying we're classless?
Did we really just prove our classlessness this year or have you simply never missed an opportunity to degrade our school or our fanbase?
“Class” is really just a reflection of the respect one group of fans have for another. Why does anyone feel entitled to respect from Texas Tech fans when so many Texas and Texas A&M fans exert energy telling us just how dumb/poor/trashy/classless Tech fans are? If you’re going to look down your nose at us anyways, maybe Tech fans should focus on taking care of our own and to hell with UT and A&M fans and their concepts of “class.”

Dude, please...
You guys won, and you have been cordial on this site all week. The Tech fans that have come on here have been good sports for the most part, we get it. Now that the game is over, and many a burnt orange heart has been broken, please don’t take offense to the fact that some parts of this site have gone from pro-Longhorn to slightly anti-Raider overnight.

They weren't classless...
I was up in Lubbock for the game. Didn’t get a ticket, but I was at a bar right across the street from the stadium. There was a fair amount of trash talking and what not during the game, but that is to be expected…and I probably wasn’t helping the matter. After the game, a number of fans came up to me to shake hands.
On the other hand, my friends I was staying with decided it was a good idea to wake me up every hour on the hour all through saturday night to watch the sportscenter replay of the crabtree catch.
They are passionate about their football, same as we are. I just wished we could’ve run that kickoff back at the end of the game…might not be alive now if we had.

I think when you title a thread "Tech fans prove they are classless losers" you are asking for a response.
And if a similar thread was put up at Double T Nation, I’m sure many Horn fans would argue with it. Though, I was surprised by the onslaught brought on last week. I think most of them have contributed to the site in a good way. Now, though, it’s probably time for them to move on to bigger and better things.

School songs
I think both teams played great…on any given day things happen. I was not pleased when our fans rushed the field. It could have easily cost us the game. As far as fans go, however, we were quiet and respectful during the playing of your school song prior to the game. That was not the case in return. I was amazed at how rude your fans were during the playing of our school song. Think about it!
by sadielady on Nov 4, 2008 9:25 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah definitely,
Because chanting “Texas Fight” during the opposing team’s fight song is the ultimate definition of pure unsportsmanlike conduct. Shame on you Longhorn fans, that makes me absolutely sick. Now excuse me while I rush the field and yell “F*ck You!!” In Colt McCoy’s face. Before the game is over.

One individual or the entire fan section?
I don’t believe one individual doing that, which is embarrassing to all of us Tech fans, should constitute the entire section being disrespectful. And what you are referring to happened AFTER the game, not BEFORE. And I repeat…neither incident is okay!
