Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Texas Rushing

Stats for the Tech Game:

CAR YDS AVG TD LG
F. Whittaker 6 42 7.0 0 21
C. McCoy 13 16 1.2 0 27
C. Ogbonnaya 6 14 2.3 0 9
V. McGee 3 8 2.7 1 4
Team 28 80 2.9 1 27

Hopefully we can say with certainty that Fozzy is solidly in the rotation now, finally. I think if he starts moving the ball regularly, by the time we end up at our destination, wherever that may be... our top 10 offense will be even better than it was through this brutal 4 game stretch.

With Malcom Williams coming out as a possible deep threat, that could be the case even more. That guy really looked like he had another gear once he had the ball.

I think Baylor, Kansas, and A&M might see some experimentation on offense that deviates from the tried and true Colt, Shipley, and Cosby show.

Anyone think Davis might experiment more with one loss and some up and comers? I sure hope he does.

See thats what confused me

During the 1st quarter I realized that our short passing game was shut off. Tech learned from other folks that blitzing Colt was gonna get em nowhere and except for a few plays I have not seen Colt go in deep throws since most passes are crossing routes or short gains. Right away the first question was why not test them deep? See what happens? That started in the 4rth Quarter when Colt connected with Williams- well too late.

Second question- If you knew Chris O was having a injury on his ankle why on earth would you put him there at all?

Third question- What can we be possibly waiting for in regards to using Fozzy- The fellow has shown me enough whenever he has touched the ball- Boy he can move it and has the speed and the cuts!

A passing thought- I always get scared when it comes to GD’s play calling- As I feel sometimes he fails to exploit the complete talent we have- but none the less so far he has called great games except Texas Tech and I will in no way blame him for him. But the real question is Tech combined with OSU has shown to most of the teams we intend to play- How to beat us…and I want to know how GD will answer that- Will he go as he went before in the last 8 games or will he go bold- Only time will tell!

That's why

I’m hoping for another dimension in our offense. Our short passing game is stellar, but you have to balance it with other parts of the field.

We were trying desperately to get our running going, and we seemed to against Mizzou, but it didn’t last.

Fozzy had 6 out of the team’s 28 carries for 42 out of the team’s 80 rushing yards. In that game, he was the featured running back.

Let’s hope it’s the start of a trend.

I agree that Davis will experiment more now

Not so much because of the loss but because he pretty much doesn’t have a choice…

Out of colt, cosby, shipley, (and can’t forget ogbonnaya) that have run the offense so far, cosby and oggy are hurt and shipley’s gotta be all banged up too.

I think that this, coupled with the very promising showings from Malcolm and Fozzy this past weekend will cause Davis try some new stuff with the younger guys now. It’s time for them to play prominent roles in our offensive show

Fozzy is a man.

I believe Fozzy will be given his shot against Baylor and have a breakout 100+ yard game. Og will continue to be a solid 3rd down receiver/blocker (while still getting touches) and McGee will be thrown in on some 1st and 2nd downs. CoJo will continue goal-line dominance.

hmm

i just dont see that happening because i dont think fozzy will get enough carries to have a huge day. with the injuries he’s had early in the year, they’re very conscious of not overusing him and wearing him down. I think ideally that fozzy is your change of pace guy. the guy you bring in after youve softened the d up witha big pounding bruising RB, maybe like Whaley will be for us next year. Fozzy’s game is very shifty, making quick cuts into the holes and getting into the second level to make people miss. youre not going to see fozzy getting alot of downhill carries. a lot of misdirections, zone read’s, and sweeps/options.

Fozzy

To be honest folks, I was just glad to see him get some carries…although Greg Davis hardly used him…This was after he broke an 15 yard run….

I wanna see more of Fozzy for sure, not grant it…He is not your ground pounder at all…but…I would like to see him in the whole game vs baylor…he’s earned it for sure…

Fozzy expectations

I love Fozzy and think he’s the best back we have for our system. That said, and despite the fact that I can’t wait for him to start, let’s also remind ourselves to not get too crazy and remember that as soon as he starts that average comes down a bit. I mean, he’s playing at the end of games against tired defenses and second stringers. Good or not, he’s going to get stuffed, knocked around, etc. But seriously…why can’t he start a game and start learning how to make more complicated reads and learn how to pass block more? Come on, Greg Davis, please? At least against Baylor.
