Protest the BCS

Enough is enough.  We beat OU on a neutral field and all because OU runs up the score on OSU in the last 4 minutes of the game they get a shot at the national champsionship.  It's time us Longhorns stand up for what's right and march down to the white house lawn and protest this BS=BCS.  Let's make a statement that this is not acceptable and we will no longer tolerate the BCS.

Missouri

cost us the Big 12 Championship game by losing to Kansas.

Missouri is a shit team.

Shouldn’t be in the top 25.

I've been fuelin' my dreams eatin' greens and beans.

You guys should be wishing Missouri kicks Oklahoma’s ass.

by kstrebor on Nov 30, 2008 8:53 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

that's a BIG wish..

they couldn’t beat em last year when they were rolling, why expect them to beat them when they can’t even beat Kansas?

Remember the 1970 National Championship

Declared by President Nixon. Nothing wrong with getting our president involved to fix these matters.

Matter of opinion

You sure you went to Texas?

by dcallner on Nov 30, 2008 5:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, but

this is low-hanging fruit. They probably can’t fix the global economy no matter what they do. Bin Laden isn’t coming out of his cave anytime soon. And healthcare is simply expensive; they can move around money, pissing off some people and pleasing others, but they won’t find a solution to the real problem.

College football is different. They can make a lot of people very happy with minimal effort.

by mikey 4 on Nov 30, 2008 6:35 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

This is a classical case of an ad hominem

With that aside, you do realize that college football is almost mutually exclusive to the overall welfare and the interests of United States, right? Not only that, changing the BCS system will not be an easy-picking as it is entrenched by big-money interests.

When Obama proposed his first initiative as the President-Elect, you do realize he was using the same Nixonian strategy to woo the sports enthusiasts, right?

There are simply far too many imminent and pressing matters on hand. So let’s leave the politics to the politicians like the President and go back to football discussion.

by boommotherfcker on Nov 30, 2008 7:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Not really

You asked if I live in the US and not only do I live in the US I also served the country. Not trying to move the argument in any direction other than the one you tried to move the argument into with your little statement of “You sure you live in the United States”. Anyone guilty of “ad hominem” here is you. I questioned your loyatly of Texas football since you deem it not important enough to protest and if so why aren’t you spending your time on more important issues. Your probably some OU fan. The only plausable explaination for your comments.

by dcallner on Nov 30, 2008 7:35 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

um, no....

When I asked "you sure you live in the United States"? I intended to illustrate that being a well-informed US citizen has a greater precedent over being a loyal Texas fan. Also, because I found your then seemingly hyperbolic gesture to be outright ridiculous- which I now realize was an honest gesture- I jokingly asked your place of residence. But interestingly, it seems you haven’t been watching the news nor read the newspaper as of late, as you are taking this seriously. With the current state of affairs, it’d be absurd to invoke the president’s attention for such a trivial matter of college football. With that aside, do you honestly believe that Obama can/will change the BCS system? This is akin to calling the head of UN for a change in the Olympics; it is ridiculousness to the nth power.

There are tons of more things I’d like to say about your ad hom and etc.
But I’ll refrain from wasting any more time.

You my friend are the only thing absurd

Your not a Longhorn nor a human. You wanted an arguemnt of political bullshit and you got it. Fuck off. Serously I wanted to talk about college football and you brought up the bullshit of the world. I fought for our freedom in wars. Got shot at. Saw friends die in war. What have you done. I’m pretty sure nothing. So go fuck yourself you self rightous fuck.

Influence

I don’t think anyone expects Obama to personally devise a playoff system. It is enough for him to lend his weight to the movement to replace the BCS.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.

This isn't the BCS's fault.

The BCS was not intended to determine who would win the Big 12 South. This was the fault of the conference for invoking the BCS to decide something the BCS was never intended to decide.

Call your school’s AD and demand a change to the Big 12 rules.

by drycreek on Nov 30, 2008 5:31 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

You know Dodds will be on this

who knows, it’s possible the Big 12 has already agreed to change the tie breaker rules. They’re just not going to announce it now. Wouldn’t be appropriate.

by goingforthecorner on Nov 30, 2008 5:40 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Right

It was a foolish oversight that nobody expected to matter. However, they could have acted when the possibility became apparent but before the result of a new tiebreaker could be predicted — about halfway through the season. At that point, there would have been no complaints.

Maybe not

but OU shouldn’t be ranked ahead of Texas. That is complete BS.

Secede

We should get the athletic department to secede from the big 12 and join the SEC

by acho81 on Nov 30, 2008 5:20 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

No, the WAC!

Trips to Hawaii every other year. AND Moscow, Idaho!

by Hopkins Horn on Nov 30, 2008 7:09 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

How about

the Big East. I mean if Cincy can win it, we should be a shoo in every year.

Find a deep pocket to sponsor a college playoff

If you can find someone richer than the BCS they can setup an eight team playoff and invite the top 8 teams to come and play for a few weeks.

Hell

I’ll take the best 7 teams plus Okie State. Better than nothing, right?

by Longhorn in Canada on Nov 30, 2008 7:57 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Of course if we got Gates

it could be the 7 best plus Washington. That should be good for a few laughs. At least it would give the top seed an effective by week.

by Longhorn in Canada on Nov 30, 2008 7:58 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Harvard

Seven plus Harvard, his alma mater (he didn’t graduate)

by drycreek on Nov 30, 2008 8:22 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Mizzou

from an outside perspective, Mizzou has a very slight chance to beat OU, but since they lack any kind of defense they’ll have to rely on OU turnovers or just a flat out fluke OU game offensively

in any case, texas got screwed

by MaizeNBurntOrange on Nov 30, 2008 9:01 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Nobody likes the way the BCS chose

OU got lucky because of computers, thats all. There is no sanity to any of this system. Now we all have different ideas on how the tiebreakers should be resolved, but dang we all want rid of the BCS.
