UT Volleyball Receives #3 Seed
In a sport where playoffs actually determine a champion, UT Volleyball received the overall #3 seed and #1 seed in the Austin regional. The Gazelles will play in Austin this Friday and Saturday in 1st and 2nd round action. They host Lamar Friday night and will face the winner of Wichita State and Rice on Saturday.
The Austin Regional's seeded teams are #3 seed Texas, #10 seed UCLA, #11 seed Oregon and #6 seed Minnesota. Oregon is coached by former Texas coach Jim Moore.
This draw is pretty good for Texas. Although the Wichita State matchup in the 2nd round will be very, very tough. Wichita State was undefeated through last week and lost over the weekend.

Hang on...
Do the university presidents realize that these student athletes will be forced to participate in as many as three weekends of athletic competition should they make the finals? In December? What about finals?
(congrats to the Gazelles)

LOL…exactly. This setup is pure madness. Can’t we get a computer and a couple of idiots in a room to make a poll to determine who should play for the MNC?
Do note that the Saturday match is a 4:30 start which was done to accomodate the Big 12 Championship game. You’ll have plenty of time to get home to cheer on Mizzou. Wichita State is ranked #9 so that should be a very strong test indeed!

Perhaps the most recognizable mascot in sports, and certainly the toughest looking, Bevo is a fixture

I was absolutely certain we were going to get hosed twice on Sunday
The NCAA has never been kind to Jerritt – he speaks his mind far too freely. What a relief they seeded this team based on its talent not on their thoughts about its coach. A well-deserved 3 seed, and the clearest path to the Final Four Texas has had in years.
Wichita State will be a challenge, as Tempest notes, but UCLA and Oregon are the weakest of the four Pac 10 teams that could have ended up in Austin. I would prefer to face UCLA in the Elite Eight but it would be cool to face an ex-Texas coach two years in a row if we get Oregon.
The Texas football team appears headed to the Fiesta Bowl. Let’s help our Gazelles get to Omaha with the kind of fan attendance they got for the Nebraska game. It will be the last series of games for one of our best recruits in years – and PHF fave – Lauren Paolini, who will graduate with one of the top two hitting percentages in Longhorn history.
Congrats to our Gregory Gazelles for an amazing season. Go Horns!
Still a Blaine Irby fan
