Style Points
OK so sour grapes aside, and I have plenty, but I think there is a big picture argument here that no one is talking about. The style points that have been moving Oklahoma up the polls the last several weeks (last week enough to jump Texas in both human polls) therefore setting up basically an even split with Texas in this rankings have been from scoring points - lots of points.
(Now I know that it was the computers that put OU over the top, but for arguments sake, stay with me)
Now Mack, and many other coaches out there have stopped considering running up the score since they took out Margin of Victory from the computers deeming it unimportant. But this year's national championship game could be determined by simply that - running up the score.
Anybody think that we could not have put 50+ or 60+ up against A&M if we keep our foot on the gas the whole time? How about Kansas? When did Colt come out against Colorado or Mizzou? And what about our defenses? How many 4th quarter "Meaningless points" did we give up because our second string was in the game?
All I heard today was "Oklahoma scored 60+ points the last 4 games...." I don't like that this was rewarded. I don't like what that means for college football.

They scored 60 but allowed 40....
Everyone talks about their offense (which is great no doubt) but no one talks about how bad their defense is. We have the best defense in the big 12. We allow the least points damnit!

If you ask me, if OU is not deserving of a national title, it will be evident in the next two games
They may escape KC giving up 30+ points a game while scoring 60+ at will and surrendering KO returns, but when they face a elite team FL, Bama, whomever it may be, they will have to prove how good they really are.
Sure OU can GET to the NCG, but can they win? We’ll just have to see.
Im sure Florida is drooling over the special teams possibilities.
I hope Stoops draws up some more ricochet deflection pass plays. Those seem very effective.

I wonder if Urban Meyer is thinking this
Perhaps he was one of the coaches that voted OU #1, because he wanted to play them in the MNC.
In other words, he didn’t want to mess with Texas. :)

Im not sure "style" points were as big of a deal as some say
As I have suggested elsewhere. I think that OU beating Tech by 44 points actually put Texas into a positon to say that Tech no longer mattered and that it was a two way tie between Texas and OU rather than what it was.. a three way tie.
So I didnt believe Texas’ argument, but it seems as if most of the country has. I saw a poll on ESPN where 61% as opposed to 38% believed that Texas should have won the big 12 south, based upon Texas win over OU. The “style” points OU put on Tech allowed most of the country to forget about Tech.
Now some say OU got the nod because they scored over 60 points in the last four games. If that argument was true, then the humon votes would have improved for OU instead of deminished…. right?
Then again, I dont know how much effect the points had on the computers.
