Muschamp and the Drumbeat

Out here in South Cakalaky, this all that is being talked about.  Let me give you the rundown:

Dabo Sweeny, the current interim head coach for Clemson is said to be given a hard look and depending how he finishes, ...well you get the picture.  That being said, the Sweeny-led Tigers beat the BC eagles for the first time in Chestnut Hill since prohibition.  That really got the administartion and the Athletic Director, Mr Terry Don Phillips excited.  However, local Columbia sports radio, stipulated/suggested that the Board of Directors/Regents are preparing to draft a package for Coach Muschamp but will wait 'till after bowl bids are out to offer.  The main reason is for recruiting purposes but obviously these AD's talk to each other and respect eachother in this regard.  Remember folks, Bo was awarded the Nebraska job in principle before the LSU bowl game, (come to think of it, did he actually sign before the bowl game?).  He has already vaulted to the top of the list as has Lane Kiffin for Tennessee.  Again, as I have stated before on the BON, this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.  This is the price that we pay for having a successful program.  He would make one hell of a Head Coach, one that would have an immediate impact at programs like Tennessee and Clemson( ironic they were Orange, hmmmm?).  The athletes and most of all (yes I said it but ya'll know its true), the money, are already in place.  My question for ya'll back in GODs country is what are we doing as a University to retain Coach Boom?  Is it realistic to expect that we can keep him?  Is anybody throwing cash at him?  What are his/his family's feelings about staying in Austin? How long can we expect to hang onto him if he stays?  It's gonna be an interesting run from now until the end of the year.

His wife is sick of moving

Or so I recall him saying during an interview some point before the season.

I wouldn't hold on to that

I’m sure she’s sick of moving, and perhaps she loves Austin. However, I’m sure Clemson, Tennessee, Washington, etc, etc can offer a few million reasons for her to change her mind.

Orange ain't Burnt Orange

And why in the hell would he want to go to Clemson? The ACC is a football joke (at least since Miami and Fla State have gone down hill, and Va Tech is a shell of itself since Mike Vick left to go beat up some dogs). Good luck recruiting 5-stars to that school! Hell, it’s one of the main reasons Mack himself left UNC for Texas.

Nah… Tennessee? That could worry me, but Knoxville smells like the underside of my sac.

the underside of your sac...

Now i’m not sure what the underside of your sac might smell like, nor do I care to give a sniff to find out…but i can tell you knoxville is uglier then hell…

Never say never

Coaching is a business..first. If a top tier school offers a “package” you really have to consider it. Would anyone here turn down a salary increase north of 400%? I highly doubt it. He has a young family, he has financial goals, he has career goals. Is he ready? I don’t know the answer to that question but many many many AD’s would take that chance as he is a hot commodity. Plus, I say Clemson is about as good a jump as any MB assistant would move into. Iowa State? No. Syracuse? No. Minnesota? Maybe.

If he leaves then we will have to reload. That is the price for hiring the best most qualified candidates.

How to keep the man

While there are a lot of high profile coaching vacancies that would be good reasons to leave, there are also a lot of reasons that Muschamp would stay.
-The word is that his wife and he both are in love with Austin, not hard to believe.
-I remember when we signed him that some speculated that he may have gotten the “Jimbo Fisher” contract under the table. While I don’t think that he did, I think it is entirely possible that DeLoss will pull out the checkbook and sign Muschamp onboard until Mack decides to hang ‘em up.
-I don’t think that Mack is a Bowden/Paterno kind of guy, meaning that he won’t coach until he’s senile. Mack has a life outside of football and I don’t think that retirement is out of his near (meaning next 5 years) future. This would give Muschamp valuable time to learn how to run an elite football program.
-The players at UT are all his, I know he didn’t recruit most of them, but they love the guy and would go to war for him anytime he called.
- At the end of the day we’re just going to have to pay him like a head coach to keep him around until he assumes the title.

Well...

Pass Defense = # 116

Total Defense = # 64

Scoring Defense = #36

That's what I keep thinking.

Do you vote in the coaches poll???

Have you seen our schedule? Have you seen the offenses that we have had to deal with? Two freshman starters in the secondary? Last year I didn’t even notice we had linebackers on the field.

Do not tell me you haven’t noticed the new found fire that our defense has this year that they didn’t have last year. Our linebackers have been flying around the field like mad men making plays all over the place…or do you miss the Scott Derry approach, sit and watch.

There is a reason he is going to be one of the most saught after coaches at the end of this season

Stats are for losers - just win baby...........

Well…

Pass Defense = # 116

Total Defense = # 64

Scoring Defense = #36

But – 8-1 with a shot for the Big 12 championship, a BCS game and still a potential NCG, I would say very well done with a mostly freshman secondary.
