Hypothetically speaking, who'd win between Texas and Florida?
Though it's rather too early to hypothesize, I just couldn't harness the possibility that we could face Florida at a BCS bowl.
And if we were to face them, though I'd like think it'd go down as one of the most storied games in the college football, I can't help myself but think that (dare I say it) we'll get raped like OU against WVU.
What do you guys think?
With the way we've played the past 2 games, I'm starting to doubt our defense and don't see them being able to contain gator speed-demons like Demps, Harvin, and Rainey.
I know it's blasphemous to say thus especially on BurntOrangeNation, but I just can't purge these horrifying scenarios out of my head.
Any thoughts? or other comments?
Counterexamples or seamless rebuttals would be greatly appreciated.
Good day.
Pete

Speed
is not an issue. We contained Maclin really well and we face fast guys who are put in space all the time in the Big 12. Florida is a really talented version of the offenses we’ve already faced this season. I’m not at all worried that they would be any harder for our defense than Tech or Oklahoma or OSU.
Curtis, Chykie Brown, Earl Thomas. They can all handle any speed and athleticism we face. The trouble we have is against teams that have good running games from the spread when we have to committ safeties back to help double explosive Wide Receivers. Does Florida have a running game that can punish us when we are in nickel? Can their O-Line handle our D? How does Tebow do against our pressure? Can he make the right reads against a 2-deep safety look?
I haven’t seen Florida play enough to know for sure but I don’t think they are a terrible matchup for us. I trust our Offense to hang points on anyone, especially if we get our running game going. I think the worst matchup for us is USC because they can bring pressure with 4 guys and they have the kind of balanced offensive attack that keeps Muschamp from giving our guys simple assignments that allow them to out-athlete opposing teams.

this would be one of the best possible matchups. I love my horns but do enjoy watching tebow led the florida offense once in a while.

Look at it this way
A QB that would be second string for us tore them up in the Swamp. Just imagine what Colt would do.
Thats not really a good way to look at it though. No offense to Snead either because he is a stud

you know I had the same thought...
it’s terrible but I really think that Florida is looking like the best team in the country. I think we’ll hang with them for 3 quarters but they’d probably beat us by a good 10 points in the end. It’s stupid that the 2 best teams in the nation might not even play in the NC game at the end of this season (Florida and Texas)…. I really think both Texas and Florida will beat Penn State and Texas Tech on a neutral field 10 times out of 10. All hypothetical of course so we’ll see how this season turns out. But really Florida vs Texas in whatever bowl be it the BCS championship game or the Sugar Bowl, will be the game of the year.
Let’s go cowboys!!

especially with refs who call holding
The lack of holding calls killed what probably would have been a certain W in Lubbock. I too think that Florida and Texas are the top two teams in the country and I’d love to see this match up.

Muschamp
Auburn v. Florida – October 14, 2006. 27-17. Florida was held to 279 yards of total offense. UF went on to win a National Championship. I know it’s different athletes, but just sayin’…

2007: In the Swamp
Auburn beats Florida again 20-17. See a trend? Will Muschamp understands Urban Meyer. And, all of this is in absence of a high flying offense like we have at Texas…

Why do you think WE hired him?
He’s the spread-busting specialist!

Doubting our defense
It’s easy to doubt our D, but in the last 2 games they held OK St and Tech to 24 and 30 points, respectively. They average 47 and 45. They’ll give up the yards, but the points are the ones that matter most, and our D is very good in that respect.

DO NOT WANT
Playing a mid major in a BCS game is a lose-lose proposition. If you win, then they were not that good. If you lose, then you were not that good.
I don’t think that is really a possibility though. Because of the order, the orange bowl will have the last pick this year, and would probably therefor get Utah.
