The Night Thread Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State
One down, one got lucky and one to go.
It's been an interesting day. Not a good one for field goals or SEC QBs. Now we get to see some serious football.

If you got picks, make 'em quick.
OSU 52, Tech 49
Yeah, a FG different. hehe
That's probably more realistic. Someone will get to 40.
I’m sure it’s in the game contract.
Musbooger....
will make it happen through his hyperbole alone
i was there last weekend. those crowd shots are giving me wicked flashbacks. /shudder nt

unless Tech wins out or Texas loses, UT is almost guarunteed to be in the MNC game!!!!

That already makes you a better QB than Jarrett Lee.

I hope Tech stores a lot of this in their hump.
I know they think they’ve reached the big time. But you never know.
im torn...I cant find it in myself to root for any team from oklahoma (esp over anotherTexas school) even though it would mean UT were to win out and play in the NC.
If You See Kay, Oh You
In my mind..
All the other schools in the state might as well be from Oklahoma, I care about 1 team and 1 team only.

We all agree it's a damn close game.
I’d be shocked if it wasn’t. But it could be all one half for one, all second half for the other.

Nightmare scenario
Tech bombs OSU and moves up to number one, everybody falls all over themselves talking about how good they are. OU grinds them into dirt and gets a big pool boost, thus potentially moving ahead of us in the BCS.
Texas must put up 60 points

Well, TCU loss doesn't help them, but a Tech blow-out of OSU doesn't help us.
And OSU still has OU and has something to say about all of this.

A three way tie would be broken by BCS rankings. OU might be ahead of us in the final rankings, especially if they beat an undefeated Tech
by HornsFaninCalifornia on Nov 8, 2008 9:14 PM CST up reply actions
Neither
OU will beat Tech and OU will probably beat OSU. That leaves Tech, Texas and OU all with one loss and we will not win that tiebreak which goes back to who has the highest BCS ranking. Unfortunately, that will go to OU. If OSU happens to beat OU, we will lose that tiebreak to Tech since we lost head to head.
I take back

I know but
the only reason we are ahead of them in the BCS right now is because of the computer polls. The humans already have OU ahead of us. ONce OU completes the rest of their schedule (if they win out), they catch us in the computers. Game over for us.

Guys, we need to be careful what we wish for.
This scenario most likely places OU in the Big 12 championship game. I certainly don’t want that and I don’t think you do either.
In a 3 way tie
and Tech goes to the Big 12 title game, Tech will lose.
Something to ponder guys:
1) We played OU close and won.
2) We came out the next week and dominated Mizzou.
3) We then had an ‘off-game’ against OSU.
Now for Tech:
1) They played Texas close and won.
2) They came out this week and dominated OSU.
3) Next week they have an ‘off-game’ against OU?
Just an observation.
I hope your right
One thing that should help us in the BCS that Tech or OU don’t have, a good win against Mizzou
Adopt-a-recruit: Devon Kennard DE

Unfortunately
Unfortunately that does not seem to matter to Coach’s or Harris. At most that only gives us a slight lead in 1/3 of the BCS.
Notre Dame lost
That is like the cherry on my Saturday sundae.
Crabtree makes me laugh.
I don’t know why, it’s just a combination of his name and face that make the experience enjoyable.
After seeing this game….I think our defense is far better than what we initially thought….Tech burned OSU…But looking at the SEC games- Man that is some defense!!!…and I am not sure if the Big 12 defense is even close…but the SEC doesnt have such a high scoring offense like the Big 12….so I think it will be a awesome match between Big 12 and SEC… and I agree OU will kick Tech ass..
Respectfully disagree...
I don’t think the defenses in the SEC are all that special. I think the offenses (excluding Florida who hangs like 80 on all their opponents) are really bad.
Yep, only reason why people fall for these SEC
defenses being so great is because the media constantly perpetuates that belief. Not true though. The offenses are plain vanilla and, therefore, plain bad.
If Tech wins out...
there in the MNC, if OU wins out they’re probably in Miami. Given either scenario, where do you think that puts us during the bowl season if we win out? Being biased, I would like to see our team in Pasadena since it’s only a 2.5 drive for me. But, the Fiesta will lose the Big 12 Champ to Miami and therefore would likely select a Big 12 representative ala Texas. Your thoughts?

But we have the win against Mizzou
That gives us the edge in the computers

who beat a ranked team this year.
Yes, but if Tech or OU beat Mizzou in KC so would they

Chiles cannot run the normal offense
What happened to Harris?
With this blow-out
What do you think the chances are that Tech would still be above us in the BCS with a close loss to OU?
No way
Texas total body of work is better

How???
We beat you…and two other ranked teams. You beat OU. That’s your signature win. But you are our signature win.
You're counting Kansas, I take it. So, Kansas, UT, OSU...
While Texas had OU, Mizzou, OSU…like you, beating a #1 and two other top 10. You have a #1, a Top 10 and a Top 25. You’re going to scream about the scores, but until you get by OU, you’re resume is still light.
Except for...
we beat you?
That will remain what you have to explain away, and Missouri doesn’t necessarily look good enough to make that case on its own, in my opinion.
But unfortunately (or fortunately) it’s not my opinion, and voters will penalize last loser.
Let’s see how Texas plays @ Kansas, as that will be another common opponent on which we can compare penis sizes. Ditto A&M, although we were lucky enough to smoke them on the road.
smoked them on the road?
you ran up the score with 20 seconds left.. And as for you beat us, this is true… But you beat an emotionally gone Texas team who played awful in the first half was on the road at night at tech and lost on the last play of the game.

Yea, maybe I’m overvaluing our 2nd half against A&M, or devaluing our 1st half against the Aggies, which is precisely what you’re doing in Re: Texas’ first half against Texas Tech. Flusters me that Tech plays a pretty flawless first half against the then #1 team in the country, and it’s because of your team, or extrinsic factors like nightness. We outgained you by 200 yards, by the way?
Back to the matter at hand, yea, maybe we didn’t smoke A&M, but we beat them by 18 or at worst 11 points, outgained them by 200 yards, too, and did it on the road. It was a convincing enough victory, I thought we smoked them, but I’m happy dialing that back to: We merely beat them convincingly.
sorry, but
OU “smoked” us
Y’all were losing at halftime to us.
Trying to say you won “convincingly” in a game you had to come-from-behind to win is disingenuous.
Scenario
In this scenario Texas has beaten the same ranked teams as tech. Also, Ou, Texas, and Tech will all have beaten each other so someone will have to be ranked below someone they beat. In addition, OU and Tech have their wins at home. Texas’ would be at a neutral site. Plus tech lost later. It is highly likely Texas would be ranked higher.
Yeah, I guess losing late is a KILLER. I like our chances to play OU pretty close, though. I do think we have a better defense than OU at this point in the season, but there’s a very high probability neither team will stop the other.
Late loses
Yep. See Texas below OU in both BCS human polls.
You could argue
that we beat OU on a neutral field by 10 points and lost to tech at tech. Also, i believe our strength of schedule is higher than tech’s (although tech’s goes up when they play OU).
SOS
Tech’s strength of schedule will never catch up because they do not play Missouri and have two d1aa opponents.
Remaining Schedule
at Iowa St
vs. Kansas
They will not lose to ISU.

I for one, would love to draw USC in the Rose Bowl
and bring those cocky bastards (and their obnoxious fans) back to earth.
No dice
They’ll take PSU/OSU/MSU by default.
It’s gonna be a barnburner!!! </Keith Jackson>Texas '06.
Rose Bowl set
It will be PSU vs. USC unless USC sneaks into bcs game. (I am assuming USC wins pac).
USC won't make the Rose Bowl.
Oregon St. vs PSU in a miserable rematch and terribly boring game.

personally, I’d love a TX-FL matchup. Just to shut my coworkers the hell up.

"When you get to the end zone, act like you've been there before."
Not entirely.
There are still scenarios where Texas gets into MNC. Strangely, it is much more likely TX ends up in mnc that big 12 champ game.
One example
Tech wins out but loses to Missouri in Big 12 champ game. It is possible Texas goes to mnc then.
We wouldnt
Mizzou would be big 12 champion.
Tech loses to OU, OSU beats OU
Tech loses to Missouri in Big XII championship…. at that point doesn’t it come down to Ala/Fla vs Texas or USC?? It has too. Texas would be only Big XII team with 1 loss. USC still has weaker schedule even though they won conference… tough call.
Yes
Unless Baylor wins in Lubbock or the voters have a serious change of heart.

It was more a joke than a serious complaint.
But you have to admit, officials have just amazingly stopped calling holds on the Tech O-Line even though it’s blatant most of the game. I’m not saying there is anything insidious going on here (it’s a Big XII thing to not call holds) but the teams with high-powered offenses get called much less. (I doubt it’s a product of perfect O-Line play)
The point is, it seems the Big XII has decided not to call holds on the higher powered teams so the QB has more time to find reads and therefore score more points, making us look even better than we are.
Just an opinion.

aggie
Now start telling me how much your academics are better than everyone elses
... I'm just sayin'
Eh? Why are you bringing academics up?
I’m just saying the Big XII likes making itself look better.
by HornPossessed on Nov 8, 2008 11:05 PM CST up reply actions
Because that is aggie’s punchcard. If it wasn’t the refs, then at least we beat you in academics. Just shut up and be glad you have an awesome team that might make the MNC. The refs didn’t screw you, you got dominated on both lines and did an awesome job to make it close. QUIT CRYING. Your team doesn’t need such stupidity.
... I'm just sayin'
If you read my post, you'd realize I didn't blame the refs on our loss.
I was merely pointing out the viewpoint that the Big XII has stopped calling holds on the higher powered offenses (Yes, including Texas) so that they can score more and make the conference look better.
Please stop trying to pick a fight on opposing teams’ boards.

Really, since when? I never thought that rankings mattered in college football. I guess we should start following them.
IF Tech loses to OU and wins out
We are in the Big 12 Title game. They won’t jump us. Sure they would have some strong wins but our resume would be better looking at the computer numbers
OU Key wins
Kansas
Tech

Sorry, but Tech doesn’t lose to OU. I know you want it and need it, but it doesn’t happen. Hoping something and the bare, scary facts just don’t allow it. Tech already played their biggest challenge, and OU, even at home doesn’t bring it like Texas did.
Just win out… you never know what will happen.
Peace
... I'm just sayin'
Thats easy to say after the win tonight
I thought Texas would never lose to Tech.
OU is a different moster then either team you have played so far. There offense is better then both and defense is better the OSU.
Garuntee a loss right now!

But what about the humans?
They’re not going to move OU behind Texas in virtue of beating #2 Texas Tech, right? And the computers are REALLY going to love OU after they have Tech and OSU on their schedule (as Texas has the benefit of right now). If OU wins out, they will pass UT. I can’t be the only one who sees that?
I see that too. But I think OSU will get itself back and should be in a position to drop OU..I think the way it may play out is Tech drops to OU (road record is pathetic)….and OU drops to OSU (in Stillwater- will be interesting)…and what happens if Tech drops to Mizzou? How does that play out for Texas?

Hey....
You guys are flying high right now. After Texas beat Oklahoma State, severa of us got ahead of ourselves and started planning trips to the MNC and Kansas City. We were ranked #1 for 3 weeks in a row and started thinking about a 2nd MNC in 4 years. Penn State did the same thing, after they beat OSU, their fans were on this board complaining about the quality of our defense and the fact that they might get left out of the MNC. They hit #2 and were a “lock” for the MNC. Today, they lost to Iowa. You guys are the flavor of the month. You might defy the odds, beat Oklahoma, beat MiZZOU, and go to the MNC against Florida or USC or whoever and that would be great. The key here is to not get ahead of yourselves. Stay grounded, because if you do somehow lose to Oklahoma, it will be easier to swallow if you haven’t been trolling around every board on the internet bashing everybody else’s teams.

I hate Lou Hotlz
He is trying just justify OU being ranked ahead of Texas
Lou Holtth...
Hates Texas…. And Colt. Never listen to him. The only reason they have him on there is because he is folksy and used to be the coach at ND.
As an analyst i find him more or less completely useless. He adds nothing but colloquialisms and spit.
Oklahoma State for BCS
Oklahoma State had a rare off form performance in Lubbock, but we will beat Oklahoma and Texas will lose to KU
please tell me you are being sarcastic
After last nights performance you should be happy to get to the holiday bowl. okie state played terrible.
