Muschamp, Chizek .....hypothetically speaking
Let's suppose Muschamp leaves for a head coaching gig either this year or next year. Now suppose that Chizek says "I give up"...this year or next year (look at how bad Iowa State really is). They are actually taking a step backwards instead of progressing. The argument that the Big 12 is stronger only goes so far - if you've seen ISU play, it's clear the Baylor loss devastated them. Even games prior to Baylor they had a lot of mental breakdowns and setbacks.
Any chance Mack asks Chizek to return or Chizek says "hey Mack can I come home" ???
I don't think Chizek is the type of guy to quit, but ISU is bad....really bad. IF Chizek left, he would have to return as a coordinator somewhere if he ever wanted to try running a ship somewhere else eventually.
Would you lay out the "welcome home" mat or want Chizek to keep on moving?? Now if Muschamp does take a gig elsewhere and he is not groomed to take over for Mack, then I would take Chizek back in a heartbeat.

Chizik
I would love to see chizik come back problem is he still has 4 years left on that contract at Iowa State then again it’s not uncommon to be let go for failed expectaions. I think Chizik is more of a Defensive coach than head coach but that’s not a bad thing some people are good college coaches like Pete Carroll, Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier and some just make good coordinators getting back to Chizik I would love to see him come back he worked wonders with us, as well as Auburn. Muschamp is good, but my personal opinion is that he is overrated. I’m sure a lot of people will disagree with me but hey it’s just my opinion.
I was actually thinking
the same thing, but about Greg Robinson who will surely be out as Head Coach at Syracuse.
I'm of the view that you can't
(and shouldn’t) go backward.
Chizik isn’t leaving ISU yet; probably not for at least two more seasons. Current team is really young (mostly the ’07 and ’08 recruits, signed by the current staff).
I expect if Mack has to find yet another DC, he’ll go the same way he did for Chizik and Coach Boom - a young, aggressive, even fiery DC at a big-time school looking for a fast-track into a HC position.
I like Chizik
but I think Muschamp may be better. The primary advantage BoomMFer has is his ability to adjust quickly to game conditions. I think Chizik tended to stay with one scheme too long. While this year’s defense may not stack up to 2005 statistically, remember the personnel we had that year. After our success this year, we tend to forget that we are starting freshmen in our defensive backfield, and going up against probably the best collection of QBs that college football has ever seen in one conference.
With any luck, we will get to see what Muschamp can do next year with players that have a little more experience.
And yes, if he leaves, I was also thinking about Greg Robinson. We know he will be looking for a job, where with Gene it’s just speculation.

Muschamp > Chizik
and it is not close. Chizik was a little too vanilla for my tastes, but we could do a lot worse – as long as he learns how to defend trick plays
Chizik
I don’t want Chizik back. The secondary was horrible under his command (even during the 2005 NC season). Besides, I felt like the he gave up on the team at the end of last season when he knew he was going to take the ISU job.
