better scenario for horns??
Ok, so ideally we want oklahoma to beat tech, Then we want osu to beat oklahoma right? That we put Texas highest in the bcs and into the big12 championship game. My question is this though, If oklahoma beats tech and osu then there probably in right?, Does that leave us a 3rd in the big12, relegating a cotton bowl appearance? Are we better off hoping tech wins out to guarantee ourselves a bcs bowl and a springboard for 09? I'm like all you guys who really don't know yet, its just wait and see. I would hate to see tech in the big12 championship over us, but I would really hate to see oklahoma (whom we beat) in over us more. So the dilemna continues, we just gotta take care of kansas and destroy the agros and see what happens.

first thing – run on sentences shoved together with misused punctuation make your entire post illegible and sound like a 12 year old typed it.
second thing – browse the site a little bit. there are no less than a dozen fanposts discussing this issue in depth. your answer is likely in there somewhere.
third thing – because i dont want to have to respond again, ill just flat out tell you that your scenario is wrong. here is why.
if OU beats tech, but then loses to OSU, then OU has TWO LOSSES. Thus, there is no 3 way tie. there is a 2 way tie with us and Tech, and they go to the champ game because of the head to head.
posts like this just clutter the site and end up pushing the good discussions off the page.

Here's one for you...
1. Florida and Bama win out and meet in SEC CG
2. Florida beats Bama in the SEC CG
3. OU beats Tech
4. OSU beats OU in Stillwater
5. Tech wins Big 12 CG
In the end…
Florida 12-1 SEC Champ
Bama 12-1 SEC runner-up
Tech 12-1 Big 12 Champ
OU 10-2
Texas 11-1
Florida v Texas because Tech’s late season loss against OU will drop them far enough in the rankings to recover even if they win the conference

Disagree.
If Texas Tech wins Big-12 Championship over Missouri, they will be ranked higher than Texas.

probably
but not for sure. a loss will really hurt their computer rating.
i think that the human voters will jump them up after a win over mizzou, but its certainly no guaranty. what we can conclude up to this point for sure is that no one knows what the hell the human voters will do.

The computers
only moved you down two after your loss.
But forget predictive commentary, I’m asking you, anybody, should a Big-12 Champion Texas Tech be below Texas in a just world? My answer: No, absolutely not.

In a just world is there any reason why Texas should be behind OU in any poll given that they one on a neutral field? My answer: No, absolutely not.

look
im not trying to disagree with you on what SHOULD happen. im simply speculating at what could happen.
and we only dropped because our strength of schedule boosts our computer ranking. its the same with alabama if they lose to Florida. sure, they would only have one loss, and it would be to a very highly ranked team….but the rest of their schedule is such crap that they would be significantly lower in the computer ranking than us. in the world of the computers, all 1 loss teams are not created equal.

Note:
Computers are still very much enamored of Florida and they have not had the opportunity to beat (computer ranked) #2 Alabama. Texas can’t really help its computer ranking with games against only Kansas and A&M remaining. Florida absolutely can help its ranking, since it plays a team ranked higher than it in the future.
I think Florida is in better shape with the computers than their BCS ranking shows, anyways. BCS throws out best/worst scores. If they didn’t, Florida would be 4th as they are ranked no lower than 21st and no higher than 22nd, compared to OU who is no lowe rthan 19th but no higher than 21st.
Point is, I’m not CERTAIN that a 1-loss Florida is below a 1-loss Texas per the computers. They’ve already jumped you with the human voters, and there’s very little independent a Big-12 championship that will convince them you belong ahead of Florida. Were I you, I would start rooting against Florida.

Florida?
where did you get Florida from? I wasnt discussing Florida’s computer ranking. I completely agree in fact with everything you said about florida’s ranking. i think a win over Bama will really boost their ranking. for one, it will give them a quality top ten win, which they dont have yet (and we happen to have 2 of).
i was referring to Techs ratings. Its a given that either Florida or Bama will be 1/2 at the end of the day, unless one or the other has a melt down before the CCG. So thats a nonfactor. the probability of them both being eliminated from the equation is very low.
i was speakin to the computer ranking of a one loss Tech, which would most certainly be lower than ours, especially if their loss is to a 2 loss OU.
im not sure why you feel we need to root against Florida.

My bad...
I’ve misread two things you have said today. I don’t know why.
I think you should root against Florida because a Tech/Texas MNC game is premised on Florida losing before the SEC Championship.

no worries
and i understand the point. i just dont think a Tech/UT rematch is a very likely scenario, and so i dont plan on spending much time analyzing it. I think there are a couple other more likely paths into the MNC game for UT.

Head to Head Comparison
Based on what the voters have done they would probably vote one loss TT above one loss 11-1 Texas at the end of the season and a win in the Big 12 CG due to the fact they beat Texas.

What about our head to head with OU?
Obviously the coaches could care less that Texas beat OU?
by HornsFaninCalifornia on Nov 9, 2008 9:21 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Why would it matter?
The above presumes OU loses to OSU, which makes them a 2-loss team. You will have beaten a two loss OU, we will have beaten a one loss UT. And the comparison won’t be who is the best of UT/Tech/OU, but rather who is the best of UT/Tech. Your win over OU will matter, but it wouldn’t/shouldn’t be enough to push you past a team that beat you straight up.
