Fiesta Bowl
Looking at the bowl projections here:
http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions
People are saying Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. Ohio State has had a bad year with losses against Penn and USC, but those are two pretty high caliber losses. Especially since in the game against USC, Ohio hadn't selected a quarterback and had their Heisman quality RB injured. And against Penn they lost on the last drive of the game.
Of course, Boise State is undefeated and in contention for the same BCS At Large Bid.
Who would the longhorns rather play in the Fiesta Bowl? A two loss OSU or an undefeated WAC Boise State that dropped OU in its last appearance.
I think Ohio State gets it anyway because of the money involved... OSU travels really well.

For the record
My vote is for the Buckeyes… everyone in my family is an OSU fan, so I want the bragging rights from a Texas victory.
Especially since they won the last one in Austin, it would make us 2-1 against the Bucks.

for the seniors
because of the BCS let down, I’m concerned that we could come out very flat and get embarassed in a bowl game that we ought to win. Playing OSU would at least provide extra motivation that someone like Boise State would not. Every leader on this team remembers OSU coming into Austin and winning in a pretty tight game.
A UT/OSU Fiesta Bowl matchup would likely be a foreshadowing of one of the few possible 2009 MNC matchups.

I agree
Both OSU and UT will be huge next year. People would talk a lot about this game and it would play into Preseason rankings very hard.
Also, I’m hoping our guys keep their “blue collar work ethic” moving into this game regardless of who they play.

I hope they keep their work ethic, but I’m tired of seeing the “blue collar” work ethic implicitly considered superior to the “white collar” work ethic. Like white-collar people don’t work, eh? Oh, well, I’m in the Army, I’ve spent a lot of nights sleeping on a humvee hood, but I work in an office on a computer all day now. What color is my collar, and what does it say about my work ethic?

I’d rather Texas just skip the effing Fiesta Bowl. Thumb the nose at the Big 12 and the BCS both!

6 million split 12 ways
Doesn’t the Big XII only get 6 million for the second BCS participant. And then that is split 12 ways.

That’s exactly why I’d do it. The Big 12 would get $3 million for the Cotton Bowl instead of $17 million for the Fiesta. Texas is the one school in the conference to which that wouldn’t matter a lick. Fuck ’em.

Blah on OSU....
OSU has shown time and again how they turn to garbage in big bowl games. Personally, I’d prefer to see Alabama play Texas. I know I’m a dreamer, but the thought of playing OSU….meh……been there, done that.
Just let your souuuuuul glo, baby....feeling oh so silky smooth...

Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and a possible AP national title?
I know I’m dreaming, but that would be pretty nice if we beat down Nick Saban’s team and won an AP title….

Agree
Alabama would be my first choice, mainly because of the history/prestige of both geams, but also I think we’d match up against them pretty well and because of the whole Big12/SEC debate.
OSU wouldn’t be a bad choice either though.

I'm thinking
That I want OSU in a bowl game. The first Texas game I went to was Texas vs. OSU in Austin. I think I would like to be there to see Ohio State get beat down just because of the assholes they call “fans.”

Why not the Sugar bowl?
Why are we projected to go to the Fiesta Bowl? Wouldn’t Sugar against whoever loses the SEC championship be a better game?

From what I understand Fiesta has first pick
and we’re a first pick team. That’s the reason why we wouldn’t get Alabama, because that bowl would pick them next.

I think
It’ll depend on who’s ranked what in the BCS. If Florida or Alabama is #1, then the Sugar would be the first to lose a representative, and would pick first.
If OU is ranked #1, then the Fiesta would pick first.
At least that’s how I understand it. Even if the Sugar picked first, I’m sure they would take the #2 SEC team anyway.

Alabama-Texas would definitely be a better game to watch for the fans, but not better for the Fiesta Bowl.
The Fiesta will have an earlier pick than the Sugar Bowl for an at-large team and will pick Texas to fill their seats and get good TV ratings. They’re not worried about good games elsewhere. Basically the BCS selection will become a game of hot potato with Utah being the potato.
Maybe you can convince the Fiest Bowl that Utah is close enough to Tempe and that they will travel better than Texas, though who would watch Utah-Ohio State?

I suspect it will be Texas vs Utah
Although I am not all fired-up about it. Fiesta will take Texas first and then pick Utah since the Utes can drive to Phoenix. Fiesta could also pick tOSU as their 2nd choice but I suspect they will let Sugar pick tOSU since Sugar got stuck with Hawaii last year.
Phoenix won’t be a bad place for a bowl but it’s not New Orleans. I suspect it would be more fun if held at the old location at ASU but it is now held at the new University of Phoenix Stadium at Glendale.

Agreed
Fiesta gets first at-large pick, and it’ll likely be between Utah and Ohio State; from what I’m reading, it’s very unlikely that Boise State will get a BCS berth (not predicting fairness; just reality).
That said, it’s likely the Fiesta will take Ohio State because they are a big name, travel well, sell seats, amp up TV ratings, etc. Certainly, as fans of college football, lots of people will want Utah to at least get their chance at a big name school in a big bowl. But Fiesta’s only motivation is $$$. And Ohio State likely is the bigger $ draw.
My personal opinion is that Utah could be a lose/lose game for us (see: Oklahoma v. Boise State); if we win, we were supposed to win against a non-BCS conference opponent (again, just public perception; not necessarily fair); if we lose, it’s a HUGE upset, and Texas looks like an oaf for losing to a second-tier school.
I don’t think Texas would overlook them (even if we’re pissed we’re not playing for it all), that Mack would get them ready, and that — honestly — it could be a helluva game. Utah’s got a great resume this year, and they’ll not lack for motivation.

Checka check it out.
If Florida beats Alabama in the SEC CG, OU will be #1, due to their huge computer advantage (assuming no choke against Mizzou). That means the Fiesta will get the first pick of all BCS eligible teams that aren’t in the SEC or locked into other bowls (PSU and USC to Rose, ACC winner to Orange). They’ll pick us. Then the Sugar picks, and can pick anyone they want. They’ll either take Alabama or they’ll have to go all the way down to Ohio State or Utah. I say they take Alabama. Then the Fiesta gets the next pick, and it’s without restriction. Texas will play Ohio State, unless the Sugar somehow doesn’t take Alabama, in which case we’d get the Tide. I think we’ll be ok.

Also...
… anyone who thinks the Fiesta might pick Boise State needs to realize that they can’t do that unless the Utes get picked in the Sugar or Fiesta bowls first, or unless there’s some vast conspiracy where the bowls agree to take Utah down the line so that Texas can play Boise. Not going to happen. It’s either Ohio State or the SEC CG loser (if the Sugar Bowl smokes crack right before picking), with a 10% chance of the Fiesta taking Utah over tOSU sprinkled in there. I doubt it.

Bowl Collaboration
There is a lot of discussion and collaboration between the different bowl committees in regards to team selection to have the best possible matchups for as many bowls as possible. If the committees thought that Boise-Utah would be a good and profitable matchup then they can make it happen, and have Alabama-Texas in the other bowl. However, given the current economic climate I don’t think that they will perceive Boise as a good choice and will indeed go with tOSU. At that point I don’t think either the Fiesta or Sugar Bowl will agree to a significantly inferior matchup (tSOU-Utah) and we will indeed end up with Alabama and Texas in different bowl games.

And why not USC?
Living here in Pac-10 country, not even USC fans are certain they will come out of Saturday with just one loss. UCLA plays them like A&M plays us; it’s like they have 11 scrimmages and only one actual game at the very end of the year. I can certainly say I wouldn’t mind that particular rematch, and stranger things have obviously happened this year.

Texas would love to play USC
and the Fiesta bowl would love to have the Texas UT rematch. All of the projections right now assumes that USC goes to the Rose to play PSU. If USC loses to UCLA Saturday all of the cards get reshuffled again.
btw – I saw ASU beat UCLA last Saturday with just about zero offense. UCLA is not going to win Saturday.

It's true...
To be a true championship game it should be a Texas – UT rematch where both sides of our team should play both sides of the ball. Honestly Colt’s good, but how’s he going to be as a DB? I bet we could get it on primetime.

Not true. As has been said, if USC loses to UCLA, USC won’t go to the Rose Bowl, and would likely be the Fiesta Bowl pick. A USC loss means Oregon State wins the Rose Bowl bid, which would severely piss off the contractually-obligated Rose Bowl that would be forced to feature a rematch of Oregon State and Penn State.

This would be a great game
i’d rather see UT face a decent OSU team over Utah/BSU
i wrote UT/OSU in for my predictions a few weeks ago, just because, like it was already stated, OSU travels well and obviously the Fiesta’s close proximity to Texas would make it a highly sought ticket.
i think Tex would win the matchup, in a game much like Okie State-Tex from this year, since the Bucks have been jumped a few times at the beginning of games
