So, Iowa State is looking for coordinators....
.....and the rumor mill is already ramping up, including Major Applewhite (again). When Chizik first took the job, he was mentioned as a possible choice as an assistant. We now have an open spot for an OC/QB's coach, and he is one name that has come up for consideration.
Now, Wikipedia has his compensation at $250k, whereas our former OC Robert McFarland, was making $275k.....so there's a possibility of a raise.
I feel we'll strongly go after the Tulsa OC, but Applewhite will probably be under consideration.
Greg Robinson is also popping up on the DC radar, as is Auburn DC Paul Rhoads.
I doubt there's much of a chance we would get Applewhite (though, the Applewhite fan deep inside of me would get a kick out of it), I thought the same thing about Chizik. Now that Muschamp is the crown prince of UT football, maybe Applewhite will look for a position that will get him closer to a head coaching position. Who knows, but just something to be aware of.

I don't see it.
Major has moved from Syracuse to Rice to Alabama to Austin in a matter of the last four years. I don’t see him moving again this off-season unless he gets offered a head coaching position somewhere else (which is unlikely since he is still so young).
And, while I think there is potential to win at Iowa State, i don’t see $25k as enough of an incentive for him to move to Ames. Did you say you want Gus Malzahn? Now, that would be a great hire if he would go to Iowa State. Also, the OC at Houston might be worth looking at.

Just a name that's been connected.
I DO believe that Malzahn is the top target through some people that I’ve talked to.
But…..you never know.

You can't have Auburn's DC.
I think it is well established Texas has dibs.

Well...
here’s where that little triangle gets freaky. Rhoads is from central Iowa and already coached at ISU. I think it’s clear he takes the job here before getting named DC after Texas two years after we win a National Championship.
It’s the CIIIIIIIRCLE OF LIIIIIIIFEE.

DC after Texas should read “DC at Texas”
Me dumb, can’t type.

no way
Major didn’t come to Texas to be one and done. There would be no reason for him to take a step backwards to a place like ISU (albeit to a higher title). Major has the inside track to be the next OC at Texas as well as being widely considered to be the the next head-coach-in-waiting.
He’s also got his first kid on the way, so its definitely not the time for him to make a move.

major over muschamp?
i dont think major has more of a shot at ‘head-coach-in-waiting’ than muschamp.
