Bradford going pro?

Bradford says that he is going to explore his options within the draft. This is good news as he would likely be the second quarterback taken after Stafford of Georgia. I do not think that he would be able to turn down what would almost assuredly be first round money. This would be a huge blow to OU and would almost hand us the south for next year.

Although thats true, almost their entire offensive line is leaving. An inexperienced quarterback playing behind an inexperienced line is Muschamp’s dream come true. Not to mention the loss of many of the other playmakers on both sides of the ball for their team. The same team that handed OU the south in 06 is not the same team with the new found enthusiasm that Muschamp brings as well as team unity that Mack has instilled into their heads after losing to A&M two years in a row

Don't count your chickens

Texas still has to win a lot of tough games. Don’t forget that Paul Thompson won the Big 12 title in 2006 after we choked away games against KSU and A&M.

If he leaves, we become the consensus favorite in the South. But, we have been the favorite before and when all is done and settled we only have 1 Conference title under Mack.

by the1austin on Dec 10, 2008 6:10 PM CST up reply actions

yeah but,

In all fairness to Mack and Co. we should have won it this year. You can’t hold 2008 against him.

by vivalonghorns05 on Dec 10, 2008 6:53 PM CST up reply actions

So who do .......

….. blame for 1:29 remaining in the TexasTech game?

Next year it will be even more important to win each and every game! No room for slip ups when you play the kind of CS schedule we have on the books.

--- All roads to the Big-XII Championship lead through OU/RRS. It's not just another game! We're all about championships here. ---

good point,

although I kinda think that by running the ball w/ Vondrell they assumed that would run time off of the clock and not score so quickly. Who on here thinks that if you need a quick score you run Vondrell?

by vivalonghorns05 on Dec 10, 2008 9:31 PM CST up reply actions

yes, but

at the same time they were telling Colt to get the snap off, when there was still over 15 seconds left on the play clock.

I wasn't trying to bash Mack

That was not my intention at all, I was simply pointing out that Big 12 Championships are never a sure thing. Even if we beat Oklahoma, we can still lose the title (happened twice in the last three years).

by the1austin on Dec 10, 2008 10:06 PM CST up reply actions

Also a consideration

With such a weak non-con, we may even end up needing OU to be highly ranked when we play them. We don’t have an Ohio State-type marquee game (or any time of freaking BCS team game), we may have a Bradford-less OU…our highest ranked opponent may be Okie State.

It’s very remotely possible that a 12-0 Texas team (knock on wood) would still miss the MNC due to a pitiful SOS.

Nuh uh

I’m not rooting for the Sooners. No matter what.

No chance

Not gonna happen. Alabama’s NC schedule was very weak and they were #1 before they lost. Go undefeated and we’re in

by SaintBevo on Dec 11, 2008 6:10 PM CST up reply actions

In general yes

Though Im sure Auburn thought the same thing.

And in 2004 they beat BCS #15 Twice, #11 and #7, and still got left out.

I dont think our schedule will be as strong as that was for Auburn…

too early to tell

pretty similar to what colt said before he altered his position. doesn’t mean he will go through with it. also, as much as i’d like to be rid of the guy, i don’t want FOU to have that extra excuse when we stomp them again next year.

by the chairman211 on Dec 10, 2008 5:15 PM CST reply actions

Not with Stoops there

As long as Stoops is at Oklahoma, nothing will ever be handed to us.

by Hippie Killer on Dec 10, 2008 5:41 PM CST reply actions

Stoops has never beaten a higher ranked Texas

Until this year in the Mack, Stoops era the higher ranked team had always prevailed. Bob has never been able to beat us if we came in as the higher ranked AP team. Also, he’s been known to lay quite a few eggs lately.

I wouldn't get too excited.

He’s a small town team-oriented guy from what I’ve seen. The idea of this kid running for a paycheck just doesn’t seem to fit his demeanor. Just my objective two cents

by owenh on Dec 10, 2008 5:48 PM CST reply actions

I agree... I don't think this article by any means confirms that he's declaring...

This is a very weak QB class, and he would be smart to leave, but something tells me he will be back. Especially if OU loses to Florida.

by the1austin on Dec 10, 2008 6:08 PM CST up reply actions

Agree...

Couldn’t your fanpost title be “Bradford going pro?” Not having the question mark made it seem so definitive.

by jc25 on Dec 11, 2008 8:22 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah, I realized the implied after I had already posted the article.

no worries

Just FYI, there’s an edit function for your own fanposts.

good news, but it doesn't = Texas big XII champ 2009

Stoops has another red shirt QB right now that will probably be able to step right into this offense when Bradford leaves. Its a pretty easy offense for a QB to run, especially with guys like Murray, Broyles, and Calhoun next year. The line is having some turnover, but the right tackle will actually slide over to left tackle and is expected to be good.

i’m 100% Bradford will go because he’ll be top 5, but it doesn’t mean Texas is a shoe-in. Remember, Bradford stepped in and obliterated Colt’s freshman TD record.

by BMG on Dec 10, 2008 5:52 PM CST reply actions

Hmmmm, almost makes me sad

I wanted to beat OU again with Bradford at the helm.

by notsofst on Dec 10, 2008 6:09 PM CST reply actions

HE COULD USE THE $

He is from Putnam City. A town that is right in the middle of OKC. A middle class area that doesnt have to much money but isnt the poorest either. Pretty much America’s middle class (whatever that means). Look at Matt Leinhart he was the number #1 qb if he would have come out his jr year he chose to stick around and fell anywhere from 7-9 spots costing him probly $20 mill ins signing bonuses. The people that will advise him (parents agents that dont care about the rules) will be sure to remind him of this. OU doesnt rebuild they reload but experience still counts in this game. Why would anyone take that chance.

by LEMILES on Dec 10, 2008 6:09 PM CST reply actions

If he gets a first round offer

He’d be dumb not to take it…. The whole reason to play college ball is for NFL $$$.

Every college player with that kind of oppotunity should cash out, unless staying another year might improve the money / draft round they get by a significant number.

If I were Bradford, it wouldn’t really be a question.

by notsofst on Dec 10, 2008 6:18 PM CST reply actions

Like I said earlier

This holds about much weight as McCoy going pro. He’s taking a look around. My guess is he’ll be back for one last season.

Now certainly his stock is pretty dang high, but other factors are in play as we already know.

I’d say he has a 60% of jumping ship at most.

by owenh on Dec 10, 2008 6:23 PM CST reply actions

Ok St

With or without Bradford, OU’s going down in Dallas again.
The one to watch for is Ok St, next year’s Texas Tech (their best team ever).
And we still get Colorado, OU, Mizzou, Ok St, TTech in a row. I know CU and Tech are both here, and Mizzou should suck, but the guys had better be ready every week.

by Longhorn90 on Dec 10, 2008 7:00 PM CST reply actions

I hope he stays!

Giving the Horns a chance to bust his ass!!!!!!! Not to mention Bradford will probably win the Heisman due to the extra stolen game he had. I’d love to see McCoy beat him head to head again and win the Heisman next year. Please stay!

by Ericg320 on Dec 10, 2008 7:19 PM CST reply actions

He is the number 1 Qb on most boards.

I dont think much of Mel Kipers ability to pick who will be a stud who will be a dud, cause it is a guessing game at best. he is usually right on when it comes to who will go where and all the what not’s when it comes to the draft. There are alot of Bradford is the one big name that might help put butts in the seats in Detroit next season. I doubt it but who knows. He will be a top 3 pick and will come out. The only thing that keeps him around is if he throws 5 ints in the championship game and his stock plumits like GM.

by LEMILES on Dec 10, 2008 7:46 PM CST reply actions

Next years Tech game

Probably will be in Stillwater. With the schedule we have next year for non-conference – 12-0 is the only sure fire ticket to the MNC.

by texascfo on Dec 10, 2008 9:44 PM CST reply actions

not so much

the only surefire ticket; it’s more like the only ticket, period.

by luxar on Dec 10, 2008 11:05 PM CST up reply actions

For us

it seems to always be the only ticket.

As for surefire, ask Auburn about that. Should be for us, though, unless two teams the system loves (i.e. USC, Florida, LSU) are undefeated as well.

by tdwalsh on Dec 11, 2008 12:15 AM CST up reply actions

Tebow

He is a Junior, which means that it is up to him. Also, Tebow does not project as well as a pro quarterback as Stafford as he is not as much of a true passer.

by 10isgod on Dec 11, 2008 6:08 AM CST reply actions

It doesn't matter if we beat ou next year...

as long as ou wins the last five and scores 60 points on inferior teams..duh
