Muschamp to Auburn? Say it ain't so!
A TV station out of Mobile/Pensacola/Ft. Walton Beach is citing unamed sources and claiming that Will Muschamp will be named head coach at Auburn sometime Friday. I have to call B.S. on this - at least, I hope I have to call B.S. on this.
If true (god forbid), then WTF??? Surely nobody is crazy enough to accept a "head coach in waiting" title at one of the best programs in the nation, and then turnaround a month later and take another job. That's up there with Saban and Petrino. I have too much respect for Muschamp to believe it... But regardless, it scares me.

Mack responds...
Well, maybe it is a false report. Mack’s response isn’t exactly forceful, but at least it shows that he’s aware.

Sorry, hit post...
That article is old now, I think that these new reports would trump anything in those reports. I don’t see Will making that deal and then backing out a month later. I guess it is possible, but I guess I am holding out hope that this is just news from an overzealous Fox affiliate reporter…
Don’t forget the reports that had the Boise State coach taking the Mississippi State job that were total B.S.

smoke and mirrors
Gill, Hoke, Patterson, Graham, and several others (muschamp included) have been mentioned just in the last few days. Nothing has sounded substantial yet.
But if there’s any truth to that linked report, outrage will ensue.

ESPN?
I just checked all over the internet and could not find anything on the subject of him leaving. It could just be a rumor started in order to hurt our recruiting, since a large selling point for us right now is that he is the head coach of the future and will be here throughout the kids tenure. i also have to think if this rumor held any water that it would be all over ESPN, FOXSPORTS and our own website within minutes.

I think ESPN just made themselves look like jack asses!
I have been keeping up with this all day today, espn.com does not even mention one word about it. I saw the same thing on ESPN early this morning, but on the website. It talks about the Auburn job and does not even mention Muschamp’s name in there at all. It mentions Patterson, Hoke, and Gil, but not one mention of Muschamp. I also looked on Auburn’s website and they have absolutely nothing about it. I think rumors are getting started and journalist are doing what they do best, they jump on a story before checking out the credibility of the story.
The next up and coming Longhorns QB!

ANOTHER report
I just made a post about this before seeing this one because nobody seems to be talking about the fact that ESPN just reported it again. No details, but they are saying that it will be announced today.
If I had to put my money down, I would bet on this being true and that some bridges will be burned. Call me a pessimist.

No stable reports yet. However this could be way worse than the BCS snubbing this year. This has much more severe ramifications long term-wise. Unstable DC next year with a new scheme. We lose McFarland and Kennard….not good stuff at all.

Right now...
… the best thing we’ve got going for us is that it was reported by a FOX station in Alabama. I’d be more worried if it was reported by Larry Gumshoe, Chief Editor of the Slippery Rock student newspaper.

First of all...
None of this is official. As stated above the Auburn sports site says that Spurrier has received the job as well. The Fox news report holds no water. Lets think logically about this, would Muschamp actually give in after telling them “NO”?

It has to be bull crap…I dont think it is even in the interest of Muschamp…coz when they offered the position to him Aurburn job was open…even then. Come on……I think if they wanted Muschamp they would have gone after him day 1…not wait till he got the position with the horns…and also I think the Horns traditionally are way better than what Auburn has to offer….

Not saying it’s not true, but cmon yall. This is coming from the same university that “fired” or “did not fire” Tuberville. They also replaced him with Petrino before they even “fired” or “did not fire” Tuberville.
There are also proper procedures for hiring a coach, i.e. asking the AD to speak with _. I doubt they’ve followed those procedures. My guess is some booster is throwing shit on the walls to see what sticks.

If Will does go, then we will be sure to have someone at Auburn who can recruit quality DCs for us to take. I was worried who we would get to replace Muschamp when he takes over for Mack now that Tuberville is gone.

Well Dan Patrick
says he did talk with Auburn on Wednesday, but that there were stumbling blocks to him actually accepting because he doesn’t get along with the A.D.

It appears he is staying though, but he did talk to someone according to Patrick.

Patrick said that Muschamp is willing to take the job if and only if he reports directly to the president of the University and not to the athletic director. Honestly if Auburn is half as screwed up as rumors have it I don’t see why any hot commodity coach would want to go there.
Supposedly the only reason Terry Bowden was fired was that he was banging one of the top boosters’ daughter. This same booster has been trying to get Tuberville fired since the 2003 season but suffered a setback with the whole Auburn 2004 undefeated thing.
I personally live in fear that Notre Dame will do the right thing and fire Weis and hire Tuberville but fortunately that doesn’t look like its in the cards. Tuberville coaching the three consecutive top 3 recruiting classes (and another top 10 coming in this year) that ND has: terrifying.
