Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

A few requests of BON users

Lately some of the content around here, most notably the "fanposts" has been lacking in content or timeliness.  Now I'm not the most frequent poster or reader around here but some things are really getting a bit annoying.

1)

First I want to talk about the whole "classless" thing.  I am so tired of hearing about class. Whether or not Stoops ran up the score, whether or not Stoops was an ass in his victory interviews,  Sooner fans have no class, Ohio St is classy, Buckeye fans have no class, Texas Tech fans are classless for storming the field, Billy Simms has no class, the heisman committee has no class for leaving out Harrell...

Can we just stop.  It's like this is everybody's new favorite catchphrase.  And as a 'Horns fan, I know we have a little more brain power to come up with other points of argument than measuring class.

I cringe when I read/hear this.  Talking about class is pretty lame.  It's in the league of comparing academic achievement and comparing college towns.  It doesn't really matter.  It just makes you roll your eyes.

2)

I'd like to see more focus on our team, you know, the LONGHORNS!  People keep talking about OU, the BCS, strength of schedule, bias, the Heisman, who to blame and who not to blame.  The thing is, we have another important game that we can look forward to and discuss/blog about.  Enough with all the woulda, coulda, shoulda, whatifs.  The past is in the past and there's nothing we can change.  We can learn and move on.  We are Longhorns fans first, at least I am.

3)

Like many have tried to say before me, please take time to look around BON to learn its features and how best to share your opinion.  We don't need 4 redundant fanposts a day.  We don't need fanposts with one link and "You must have 75 words".  Not trying to be a dick but the clutter is kind of annoying.

Good points

1) I agree completely, I am pretty tired of it as well.

Simple answer

Mack =Class
Stoops /=Class

2) I do think there i a lot of focus on the Team, those things that you listed are part of th team in my opinion. May not always be completely relevant but all have something to do with Texas.

3) I agree 100%
BZ made a great post about it here, but it can not be hit on enough.

personal control vs content control

let people write what ever the hell they want.

If you see something you don’t like, don’t read it, (you are not forced to you know) skip it, read something else, it’s easy and that way your not annoyed and writers get to write.

i get that...

..but it’s hard to read all of the posts when they get bumped down b/c of some crap that’s already been said.

I agree with Xerxes

Elitism annoys me more than any of the recent discussion.

by whoopspat on Dec 16, 2008 9:55 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It's not elitism to say

“hey guys, let’s curb the redundant stuff.” Or to say, “hey guys, the intended space for that content is FanShots, not FanPosts”.

It’s not content control, it’s organization.

by ctex80 on Dec 16, 2008 10:06 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree

A request to conduct our internet dialogues with a little higher standard than most of the garbage out there is certainly not elitism. The only reason I frequent this website as opposed to others is that the content is generally of a higher caliber – and that is what I expect from fans and alumni of the best university in the nation.

May Colt be with you. Yeah, that's right.

Completely disagree with the second point

I love football and all things related football. The Longhorns are not the only team in college football. Please keep writing about the rest of the landscape as well, as believe it or not, it does affect the Longhorns.

I’ve never seen another SBN site where you can check a FanPost in the morning, and then it’s bumped down the front page an hour later. It’s quote amazing, really.

Oh well

People deal with stuff differently,I read what I want .I like that I can check BON through out the day and people will keep posting stuff, hopefully not the exact same stuff but it happens. oh and by the way we are going to KILL some buckeye’s !!!!! YEAAAAAA !!!!

P.S. I love the fact this is all fan driven, not killed by some corporate rules or mumbojumbo. hook’em

Hey! I've got a GREAT idea!

Why don’t you go start your own damn fansite! You could call it: “OwenH’s All-Intelligent and Always On-Topic Longhorns-Only He-Man Woman-Haters Club” or…

You could just roll with it. Hell, man…you’ve posted 345 comments since coming here in April 2008. I mean, it’s like you’re eating a box of donuts and washing it down with a diet coke.

Or…you could just be like me and be totally freeking AWESOME! I ALWAYS have something scintillating to add to the conversation!

Agreed

Bad fanposts are completely acceptable as long as they are accompanied by links to pictures that make you laugh and almost vomit at the same time.

Ahhh...

Then my work is well, working!

There you are, Bombi!

I missed you and your mastery over Google Image Search.

by Meekrob on Dec 17, 2008 12:05 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think we should create a new sport:

Try to determine what words Bombi searched on to achieve those results.

Who wants to start?

by horndude on Dec 17, 2008 12:23 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Screw that. Just give him words. Or a thought. Or a teeny, tiny space.

Once you see the first one above, even a sweet word like serendipity takes on a whole other universe.

Anyone can start a conversation, but only Bombi can end it.

Applause……..

A little late to the party

and since it got Rec’ed up, I think some people must have gotten the point, purpose, or reason.

I'd appreciate if fans...

of all blogs refrain from ad hominem(attacking the person rather than his arguments). This makes the conversation much more civil and represents our university well.

Stupid Question

Totally off subject. But I have a quick question for anyone who might know. I’m going to the Fiesta Bowl and was wondering if beer would be sold during the game? Or should I stock up for the tailgate? I know it’s an NCAA event but thought it was worth asking.

by Leachd on Dec 23, 2008 11:56 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes?

I heard something about how it was going to be sold until like half time or the third quarter, not sure which. It was in the news post from a while ago about the fiesta bowl I believe
