DeMarco Murray Out for BCS Title Game
Just came across this on ESPN.com, but it appears that DeMarco Murray will have surgery to repair a partial rupture on his left hamstring tendon. Semi-big blow to the OU machine for the title tilt, but they do have good fallback options.
How do you guys think that Murray's absence will affect the outcome of the game, if at all? I personally don't see it as a huge deal, but you never know I suppose...
Nevertheless, Hook 'Em Gators... and OU still sucks.

I couldn't believe how long it took for someone to post this . . .
I’ve been coming to the site for months now, but decided to sign up today after hearing this report for the past 4 hours and waiting for a this thread to happen.
I seem to remember the last time that OU played a team with a decent defense and DeMarco Murray wasn’t affective (or in the upcoming case, not there at all) that OU only managed to score 35 points and they lost.
In all seriousness, is Florida’s D better than Texas’? The only time OU’s played good defenses they haven’t exactly scored 60 . . .

Ah, my apologies then.
Forgot to check the FS’s before I posted.

In all fairness...
I’ve been taking finals all morning, got to work and got a few minutes to relax, and found the story on ESPN. So what’s your excuse, everyone else? lol.
I would say Florida’s secondary and probably their linebacking core are better than ours, but as far as the D-line, I can’t imagine that anyone else in college football has a huge argument to say theirs is better than ours.
That said, Florida has a good defense. There’s no doubt about that. But OU has a machine of an offense, and a defense that has faced (albeit with little success) the same type of offense that they will face on Jan. 8, Tebow excluded. I think they will have a lot of success on offense, and surprising success on defense.

This isn’t going to be a huge issue, but it’ll still make at least some impact. I said going into the season, and even several games into it, that I thought Murray was severely overrated and not even the best RB on his team. The guy is not the all-world RB so many people make him out to be. Ever notice that there’s never really been any kind of noticeable dropoff when someone like Brown or Patrick has gone in the game?

That's my thinking as well. nt

I see Murray as a Jamaal Charles RB
He has blazing speed and likes to hit the perimeter. As far as toughness and lowering his shoulder…not so much. He’s a good receiver (has like 400 yards) and probably has the best speed on the team. That said, when I heard this story I was yawning. Chris Brown is a little more consistent runner and Murray is only a small piece of the puzzle. They’ll have no excuse for losing. I mean Florida lost its O. Coordinator. Talk about an advantage for OU.

Are you kidding?
Jamaal developed some serious power skills later in his final season. He never got to use them between the trenches, but he showed beastliness.

He improved last year
He became a better overall back but he is by no means a “power runner”. He just isn’t.

dan mullen is still the OC for the BCS game, btw.

to be honest, I'm disappointed
I don’t want to hear any caterwauling about “what if” when ou loses again…
We beat them handily, but even though it didn’t count, it turns out that it was only because they lost their linebacker. And having our tight end available would have made no difference…

It's not like they were stopping us with Reynolds either
They pretend they were rock solid before Reynolds went down, which isn’t true. Texas was moving the ball fairly well throughout the game. Him going down simply exacerbated a problem that was already there.

Karma.
Leave your starters in, they will get hurt, one way or the other.

haha I want to agree but
it’s really not because of that. He went out on the first drive against Mizzou. But nevertheless it would teach them a lesson maybe.

Opening Kickoff
He was injured on the opening kickoff. Stoops often puts his best athletes back to field kicks, including Adrian Peterson during his last year. The Sooner fans I know never complain about Stoops, but this is one philosophy that they disagree with. Looks like it bit Stoops in the ass this time.

Well now OU has a reason to whine about for losing
besides their MLB getting injured…
by notsofst on Dec 16, 2008 5:54 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
To be fair
They always find a reason to whine about something. “Boo hoo the calls didn’t go our way. Boo hoo our main defensive guy went out. Boo hoo the outhouse is full again.” After a month of hearing them call us bitchy and whiners I can’t wait to see Florida destroy them.

I think it's a big deal
Murray isn’t a consistent runner, but his big-play ability will at least keep Florida on their toes. It’s always tough to replace a home-run threat like that.
by TheElusiveShadow on Dec 16, 2008 6:39 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
perfect example...
of struggling to replace a home-run threat was us last year when Limas Sweed went down. That really killed us pretty much all year.

Stoops.....
To be honest, I thought it was a “Stoops” PR move….so Florida would not count Murray into their game planning. And then who shows up at NC ready to play?
Took me a few hours to actually believe the report. I guess I am a bit jaded when it comes to trusting the trash N of the Red River.

This looks just like a series excuses
Of course, it just seems that way, though it is probably a random occurrence
