Is this Karma for OU...
So first Murray is out, then Granger, and now it appears there may be more Sooners not making the trip to Miami due to academic ineligibility. First of all, having worked in a major university athletic department in grad school as an academic tutor, there is really no excuse for athletes becoming inelgible. They have mandatory study hours and coaches and staff are kept updated on their status. At the university I teach at now (D3 football team), the student athletes are monitored biweekly!
So which is this, lax oversight by OU or offering scholarships to student athletes who cannot cut it in college?
Personally, my thought is that the karmic powers that be are trying to send a message. Kind of like an early Christmas present really.

Definitely true, then.
Let’s let this grow some legs before we start a rumor.

Appears and may
in no way mean absolutely concrete.
But here is a bigger question, if it is a rumor, and a student is failing through the fall semester, do they have ANY BUSINESS playing football? I mean, should athletes begiven a pass when they cannot meet the same standards as the rest of the student body?

I’m a true believer of karma, and this information is rather intriguing.
However, where is this info? I can’t find this news on any site.
If anyone gets more info regarding this matter, can you please post. THANKS AND HOOK ’EM!

Your program has one of the worst graduation rates in the country
As good as your school is academically your football program has one of the worst graduation rates in major college football. Only 40% of your players will graduate and only 27% of your black players will graduate (more than 75% of your team). You can say that your school is better academically but don’t try to say that your football team is “smarter.” Its just that UT does a better job of supervising their players and giving them easier majors.
Don’t go and make fun of OU’s “student-athletes” when yours are just dumb.

Our "dumb" Longhorns...
… led the Big 12 in academic all-conference selections for third straight year, with 22 selections, including 17 on the first team.

the numbers arent always accurate.
Schools like Texas, OU, USC so one so forth produce alot of NFL talent. They also produce alot of kids who are only eligible to play for 4 yrs they werent given a red shirt. Not every player that walk into this athletic department are there 5 years. There are the exceptions at every school. Matt Nordgen (might be misspelled) got his masters in less than 5 years. I do not say that there isnt the occasionial dumb ass that goes to these schools. I like Jamal Charles but he wasnt the brightest kid either. The point is look at the number of kids that leave early and those that are there just 4 yrs then you will see the true story. Aggie fans dont get mad because the guys that leave early or actually have the ability to play right away dont go to College Station. That just shows the lack of ability of your program to recruit big time players. Dont tell them to go to summer school or what not. These kids would like to go home and see their family sometime.

Hey Aggie,
There is a huge difference between not graduating from college and being academically ineligible. Please, if you can, read correctly. This post was about Sooners not making the trip to Miami due to academic ineligibility, not graduating from school. And please, if you’re going to post here, do your research. Maybe our athletes don’t graduate from UT like you stated, but they don’t fail during football season either. Not graduating doesn’t equate dumb like you stated, “Don’t go and make fun of OU’s "student-athletes" when yours are just dumb.”
How are student athletes at your school? Please, I’m very interested to read about how Aggies excel in the classroom because we all know they don’t on the field.

A friend of mine at OU told me Lendy Holmes is not practicing this week because if he doesn’t ace finals he’ll be academically ineligible for the MNCG. Unconfirmed of course.

Lendy Holmes wasn’t able to play in last year’s Fiesta Bowl due to grades.

I wonder if this is old news, or if the kid is having problems with grades again.

I saw that on OUs board as well...
Looks like OU will be four starters/impact players short if you count English. I’m willing to bet they have more than one fail academically, I mean it is OU

The names that were mentioned...
On the radio were Lendy Holmes (who did have problems last year) and Loadholt.
If thy are in finals and these rumors are already going around, that more than likely means these guys are failing walking into finald and must ace their finals to prevent failure.
Again, that goes back to my original post. One of the primary goals of athletic departments is to make sure these kids pass. I know most athletic programs monitor academic progress and have, if necessary, benched kids until they got their grades back up. Obviously, this is not something Oklahoma feels is necessary.

I can confirm Loadholt is ineligible
He was too busy holding OSAKpo to study for midterms.

Hey, they haven't even started shoplifting yet.
Granger didn’t make it to the game last year, no telling what kind of vice might appear when the Sooner hit Miami.
The lucky ones might be those who get left at home.

A school with tougher academic standards will sometimes have lower graduation rates. That’s not a bad thing—it means the school isn’t lowering the standards just to keep players on track to graduate. Nothing screws up a system like lowering the bar to accommodate mediocrity, as OU does.
