Boycott Bowl Game?

Maybe I'm the bratty kid that just can't accept losing on the playground, but I feel I may be justified in feeling like we should support boycotting the Fiesta Bowl bid.

Believe me. I know there is much to gain by winning the Fiesta Bowl; however, how can I be happy knowing that OU is playing for OUR Championship. How can we ever take college football seriously again under these circumstances? I can't.

I know that teams have turned down bids before for reasons such as equal rights for African-American players, but does anyone know of anyone that refused a bid based on the kind of INJUSTICE we have experienced?

I will continue reading posts hear at burntorangenation, but I just can't support college football while robotic beings rule the world(yes that is from Flight of the Conchords)

Are you kidding me?

Are you comparing the injustice to African Americans to what happened on Sunday? No, I didnt think so…lol But in all seriousness there is NO way we’re gonna miss out on the money that winning the Fiesta will bring to the program. Also if we get to play a Ohio St or Utah it gives recruits one last shot to watch us on the national stage, whereas they get to witness a beatdown of OU by the hands of Florida, or wishfully thinking Mizzou. Its a win-win situation. Accept what happened and take it like a true Texan…with class. Lets prove those “voters” wrong by settling it on the field come January.

Agreed but one point...

It was settled on the field back on a warm October day…but alas, that game apparently no longer happened

That is just wrong

We get all wrapped up in our fandom.
But those kids worked their butts off to bring us this season.
We need to support them no matter where they play!
I will be at whatever bowl we go to yelling for my Horns!!!!!

This is ridiculous.

My post makes more sense than this Texas Law

The law in Texas says a father only has four years to challenge paternity. If they find out after four years that they are not the father, the law says they are still the parent and still required to pay child support.

Drama, drama....drama!

Boycott…really?
Nobody cheated. Everyone was aware of the systems involved(BCS and Big XII tiebreaker). We played a bad first half of football in Lubbock and lost to what turned out to be an inferior team. Period.
It is unfortunate that we came up short.
Me…..

Colt is licking his chops

I can only imagine he would like to get a little bit of revenge on the Buckeyes after they beat him on his 2nd game ever at the 40 Acres. IMO, if we can handle Robert Griffin, we can handle Tyrelle P.

Pryor is deceptively good at passing the ball

Especially the deep ball. He will be a stiff challenge. I don’t see Wells having a huge impact. And I don’t see Ohio State being able to stop a competent offense (which they haven’t seen all season).

Inferior?

TT lost to OU on a down day for them. I am sure UT has never had that happen?! On any given day things do happen. We are NOT an inferior team but we are very proud to follow them wherever they go!

by sadielady on Dec 2, 2008 4:07 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

definitely inferior

the RR should be 9-3 or 8-4…it was a typical TT team headed for the alamo bowl. Crabtree miracle…Baylor forced two TO’s nullified by penalties…OT against Nebraska (fortunate there) and the complete and utter beatdown in norman…if you could have kept that game close, perhaps a texas college would be in kc this weekend.

it would be fun to watch

but no. Like you said, there is just too much at state to miss out on a bowl game. Much less a BCS bowl game.

Watch how fast Texas gets boycotted by the rest of the conference when they turn down 12? million. Do you know how much of a bonus Mack gets if he attends or wins a BCS game? Probably about a million dollars cash money. That trip to Australia this summer is looking sweeter and sweeter. Plus, the economy is down. He needs the cash.

Not of the teams but of the fans

IMHO, the only way we’ll see a play-off is if the fans force the issue.

If TV ratings are high, and money being generated, there is no reason for the powers to be to change. They claim all this BCS talk is what makes the BCS exciting and makes it work and a play-off would ruin it all yet almost every fan wants a play-off.

I’ve reached my limit with the BCS and the bowls. Only one post season game this year for me, the Texas game. All others will be a simple boxscore.

by Forty on Dec 2, 2008 10:29 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

You hit the nail right on the head!

We have the power! Bad ratings! It would be nice if the gamblers would play along as well and not bet! If several things added up. they might realize that its time to give the people who spend their money on your product what they want. PLAYOFFS!

by LEMILES on Dec 2, 2008 12:14 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

ugh...

this is just embarrasing stuff 2B and the reason why many outsiders hate texas fans.

by DaGoose on Dec 2, 2008 1:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

NO!

The point that most Texas fans are making I think is that the system itself is flawed and that 7 other teams have the right to complain about what is going on. They are saying the system itself is what is wrong! Not just that the Texas Longhorns didnt make it to the BIG 12 Championship game! At least that is my point! We as a Nation have always tried to fight for what is right! Slavery, Equal Rights, Gay Rights so on and so forth. Now I am not compairing these example as being at the same level of importence as this because football is purely entertainment as these were morally wrong events in our nations history. What I am saying is that we see an injustice and want it fixed. Maybe not this year but in the near future. It just so happens that Texas is the school that it effects the most and therefore has the loudest voice and the biggest podium to complain on. Lets fix the problem and lets put what is right into place. That is what we want and to be honest it isnt that hard of a thing to put into place.

ps. please excuse any grammer or spelling!

You're ideology is flawed

I agree it is unfair and it is unjust, however boycotting UT’s bowl game or every other bowl game in protest will do nothing because you DO NOT attack the problem on face. You’re doing an act in hope that it will change the minds of the inherent powers that be, yet you must realize that such a small grassroot movement will have NO effect on the “system”. Only direct action within the system such as politiking by the people who have some power can offer change. How many people are going to join this movement in by the end of December? Unless you get in near the realm of a million, it wont have any effect. Thats Realism for ya. Adjust your mindset and then plan you’re method.

Ir reminds me of people who read a few Zizek books and then watch Fight Club and then they think they can start a Revolution against the “injustices” of the world.
Guys…we’re TEXAS. This is the system thats in the SQuo. And we’re GONNA deal with it. Dont boycott the bowl, but show up early, stay late, be loud, and wear BURNT orange dammit!

Hook em

by kriess on Dec 2, 2008 2:03 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I will not boycott the game.

I believe the players deserve the right to play the game. You are right the people that have the power to do something need to stand up and say so. We are those people. We do not have to pay the price for all the shirts. We do not have to pay the price for all the season tickets. We do not have to give the millions of dollars that we as in all of the fans of all college football teams give to these institutions for the future glory of our loved teams. That is our voice. Do I see it happening. NO! Why because there is no organized effort to do so other than the bitching that you (the general public) and I put on these blog boards. We are not the only one’s!

Yes I will always show up early, stay late, be loud, and wear BURNT orange! AS WE ALL WILL! HOOK’EM HORNS!

by LEMILES on Dec 2, 2008 2:17 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

it's not so much that we got screwed but

that the system sucks. Everyone should be boycotting every bowl game.

That said, this idea is ridiculous. It’s still a BCS bowl, and the players deserve to be rewarded for a fantastic season. It will also be only the third BCS bowl of Mack’s 11 year tenure, so it’s not exactly an annual occurrence. It should be celebrated.

by andy_wooster on Dec 2, 2008 2:15 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Yes

These kids should celebrate a great season and will! Mack Brown and these kids did a fantastic job and am very proud of the fact that in a year that when Texas football was suppossidly down that they showed the heart of champions and kept the tradition of what I truelly believe that the University of Texas really is. Not in just football but its school! CONTINUED EXCELLIENCE!

by LEMILES on Dec 2, 2008 2:22 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

So quick question to you Texas fans: What’s a bigger hose job, USC getting screwed over by the BCS in 2003 when every human with a brain had them ranked #1, and yet they got passed over by a Oklahoma team that had just been blown out in its championship game, or the current sodomy job the BCS is doing to the Horns?

Funny how in both scenarios, Oklahoma is the beneficiary of the BCS stupidity.

by RCollier27 on Dec 2, 2008 7:35 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

DO NOT FORGET!

That OU also benfitted from this when Auburn finished undefeated in the SEC. OU and USC played and we all know how that went!

Anyways up your ass with your boycott im watching the game not only do i bleed orange I shit and piss orange other than that anyone know the latest on Devon Kennard?

Sorry about the Rant

Seriously anyone have an update on Devon Kennard

Only if Tech boycotts the Cotton Bowl!

Tech diserves a bid over Texas because they beat them – second great win.
Texas diserves a bid over OU because they beat them- first great win
OU diserves a bid over Tech because they beat them- last great win.

It was a three way tie -it sucks – it was what it was

Lets change the rules for how tiebreakers are resolved. And we will all live with it too.
