Perspective
When the BCS rankings first came out, it was quite easy for me sink into the gloom of realizing that we may be losing our MNC bid to a team we beat this year. It's a difficult thought, until I consider what my expectations were when the season began and realize that this has been one hell of a season. First, Colt McCoy had a rough year last year and I wasn't too certain what to expect from his QB play this year. As it happens, he is on the short-list for the Heisman (and should, in my biased opinion, win it) and had a record-setting year for UT. I hoped he would perform well, but he vastly exceeded my expectations. Second, we beat OU by double digits in October. Every year, the Texas-OU game leaves knots in my stomach as it approaches, and nothing makes me happier than watching the Longhorns win this game. Third, not only did we beat Texas A&M, we beat the crap out of them! It was a fun (and cathartic) game to watch, and couldn't have turned out any better. Fourth, we're heading into conference championship week and UT still has a shot at the MNC. I know that this falls into the "I'm just happy to be nominated" category of optimism, but it's nice to be this close (even if the chances are not as certain as we'd like them to be). Fifth, we're going to a BCS Bowl... possibly against Ohio State. This is always a good thing for a college football fan.
So, yes, the BCS system does suck and it is entirely likely that we are actively being screwed out of a conference and national championship because of it. However, if I told you last August that we would soundly beat A&M and OU, have a Heisman-candidate for a QB, lock up a BCS birth, and be in the running for the MNC by December, how would you have reacted? Maybe this thought is just a band-aid, but it sure makes me feel better.

Great season
I also had low expectations for this season, and thought we would lose 2-3 for sure and maybe 1 more that we didn’t expect for a 3-4 loss season. But this has been a great year for all the reasons you mentioned.
But watching a team that I hate and we beat on a neutral field get to the BIG 12 Champ game over us and then the NC game is quite painful to get over. Now if it was a USC v. Florida championship and we got left out, then I can live with that because we didn’t play either Florida or USC and cannot definitively say we are 100% better than them.
Also I don’t understand why Stoops and some people keep saying Texas and Texas Tech feel cheated. In this case, I would only say Texas should feel like they got cheated by letting a team they beat go ahead of us. Texas Tech has no arguments because they lost by 44 to the team that is in the BIG 12 title game; If we would have went, then Texas Tech would have had a better argument than OU because OU lost to Texas and they can’t argue.
I guess all we can hope for is a Missouri miracle, or some crazy BCS chaos scenario where Texas edges SEC champ Florida (which might actually end the BCS if this actually happened)

agreed...
I see-saw back and forth between being grateful for having such a good season (I haven’t felt this good about the team since 2005-06) and being frustrated about how it’s ending. It is nice to think, though, that there will be a cloud hanging over the MNC if OU wins it (especially if UT winds up #1 or #2 in the AP poll). If we can’t have our shot at the MNC, we can at least cast some doubt on the legitimacy of OU’s claim to it and beat our chests about our great season.
