Asterisk

As a long-time fan of the Spurs, I found Phil Jackson's self-serving denigration of the Spurs 1999 championship frustrating, but had to admit a certain logic to what he said (and which ESPN gleefully and repeatedly parroted).

In trying to relieve my frustration at the events of the last couple of days, the only thing that consoles me to any extent is the knowledge that there will forever be an asterisk attached to the 2008 Big 12 Championship.*

I'm not concerned that any punctuation will be necessary for the MNC -- their defense and special teams are just so bad that Florida will tear them apart.

* Relied on victory in computer calculation (two digits to the right of decimal) to overcome team that beat them handily on a neutral field.

Would you want an Asterisk if...

If OU loses to Missouri and it is a good possibility. Texas then would play for a National Championship. And also there is a good chance that that AP will vote for Texas as National champs (co- national champs). If either of these two happen it will be a result of the BCS system that determined that Oklahoma would represent the big 12 south. Im confident then that you will have forgotten about your Phil Jackson logic.

I believe Texas fans need to relax, and take a deep breath. Texas has come a long ways in two weeks (ranked #3 for crying out loud), because Texas is good, and because OU beat Tech, and because of the BCS! You still have a good chance of winning a national championship astrisk or no.

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
