Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Colt second team QB behind Bradford, likely because he flipped and fumbled.
Muckelroy is honorable mention LB.
Quan Cosby didn't even make second team WR.
Ulatoski made 1st team OL (Voters didn't watch Aggie game)
OU's Jon Cooper was OL of the year, but only second team OL.

Find others, I'm sure there are more. Awards are almost as screwed up as the BCS.

Update: I agree with you, Stoops getting COTY is disgusting.

Good news? Brian Orakpo was Defensive POTY. Roy Miller joins him on 1st team DL. Sergio Kindle made it as an LB, too.

don't worry about it

colt got the national player of the year from pat forde.
And as far as I am concerned, his opinion matters more to me than a bunch of Big 12 coaches that love OU.

Stoops getting coach of the year is the most ridiculous thing in that bunch.

So, the team that was projected to win it all, lost to its rival, but still managed to win the conference.

Where the team that some people had projected to finish 3rd or 4th in the conference in a rebuilding year, instead beat both its rivals, won 11 games, and is sitting at #3 in the BCS. Oh and they lost their only receiving TE early in the year, had to revamp the offense because of it, and lets not even get into our running back situation.

I could see Leach, but Bob? Really? You have got to be kidding me.

Bradford getting the nod over Colt doesnt bode well for the heisman. If his own conference cant appreciate what he has done, how can the rest of the nation?

by BoddickerIsClutch on Dec 2, 2008 4:49 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Well, the Big XII Offense helps McCoy's case IF they vote for MVP only.

It shows that OU has nothing but playmakers on offense and Bradford doesn’t have to try to be able to do anything. He tosses up a pass, someone tips it and they catch it for a TD somehow. Luck-Fuck-Bradfuck does nothing for his team. Colt does it all for us. Leading passer and rusher + heroics every game = MVP.

But we know voters are dumb as hell.

by HornPossessed on Dec 2, 2008 4:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Hope so...

I worry about the “he isn’t even the best QB in his conference as selected by the people who should know and played against him” argument.

by BoddickerIsClutch on Dec 2, 2008 4:55 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Ok, so now I'm pissed.

How in the fuck are Leach and Stoops the “Coaches of the Year”???? It should definitely be Leach! Stoops had 15 guys either 1st or 2nd team all conference! What the hell!

by ctex80 on Dec 2, 2008 4:50 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

The players

OU has 9 first teamers to our 3
OU has 6 second teamers to our 6 (one is the punter, kudos, but comeon… punter)

And still we post the same record, and a head to head win, and Mack gets no love? Ridiculous.

by BoddickerIsClutch on Dec 2, 2008 4:52 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

We at least had more honorable mention guys,

because all of OU’s were already on the damn list.

by ctex80 on Dec 2, 2008 4:53 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Also, one of ours is the Kicker,

and we have 6 on the 2nd team only if you count Shipley twice (WR, and KR/PR).

by ctex80 on Dec 2, 2008 4:58 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The OU punter wasn't nominated for his kicking skill

but his acting skills, enabling multiple personal fouls, resulting in first downs.

How is Loadholt on this?

Really? Didn’t these people even pretend to watch Orakpo humiliate this guy on national tv?

by the1austin on Dec 2, 2008 10:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I was just about to post about this.

The most f***ed up part to me was Stoops getting Coach of the Year (with Mike Leach).

by HornPossessed on Dec 2, 2008 4:50 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I would give it to Leach

Stoops getting it is pretty ridiculous, especially since he lost to Texas. Leach should have gotten the award, maybe even split with Mack

by memphizbell on Dec 2, 2008 4:52 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Are you sure that first team offense isn't just oklahoma

Because i did not see many other teams.

Bob Stoops coach of the year, that was expected. Mack did more with less according to this.

F This

SEC, here we come. Mississippi State can go to the C-USA, and UH or Rice can have our spot in the big 12.

Yeah, I’m on board with that, except I’d rather TCU go to the Big 12.

by burntorangehorn on Dec 3, 2008 8:59 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I couldn't stop laughing when I saw that.

That and Stoops as Coach of the Year show how miserably this was put together.

by HornPossessed on Dec 2, 2008 5:11 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Its ridiculous

Even I think that the guy did jack this year. He was a solid at times great player for us the previous three years but not this year. I think it was more of the fact that nobody else really had a true fullback in there offense except us.

by PrimeTime2012 on Dec 2, 2008 5:49 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Probably right

either that or they thought they were voting for who would win a pie eating contest.

by Horncasting on Dec 2, 2008 7:34 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well...

Then Mark Mangino would have, ah forget it.

just when I thought the bullshit couldn't get any thicker

we get this. with three first teamers, mack beats stoops who has nine, yet stoops is coach of the year. logic is dead, buried and has passed on to the next life.

i know it’s a longshot, but i really wish big game bob would lay his egg a month early this season.

One or two more

bits of bad new, and even I will be considering the Big XII secession argument.

by BrooklynHorn on Dec 2, 2008 5:52 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

At this rate

The Longhorns will have to play Utah in the BCS and Colt McCoy won’t get to go to New York. What’s next? No sixth year of eligibility for Shipley? I feel like I have to expect the absolute worst right now.

by GhostofBigRoy on Dec 2, 2008 6:04 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Why does an 11-1 season feel so cursed?

I know this isn’t probable or rational, but I’m starting to feel like finishing 9-3, as we expected, might have been less stressful.

by BrooklynHorn on Dec 2, 2008 6:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

did any one read this crap

If you win all of your games you don’t have to worry about this scenario.

by KingMack on Dec 2, 2008 6:59 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Not even the worst part of his comments.

He said some BS about how Oklahoma is the “team you’d want to play the least right now” or something. So annoying. He’s just covering for himself and the crappy tiebreaking system he oversees.

by hornalum08 on Dec 2, 2008 8:17 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Wait!!

Correct me if I am wrong but the Statesman shows Colt ahead of Bradford… 0.0128 of a point over Bradford on the American-Stateman’s annual All-Big 12 football team.

I'm pretty sure

I could have coached ou to an 11-1 season. I don’t think I could have came up with anything to stop Colt at RRR either Bob.

how in the fucking world

did jon cooper the “OL holder of the year” get on the 2nd and not first team…thats stupid shit. im sure stoops got it because……well i have no fucking idea how he got it. from an unbiased view i say leach, mack, and maybe pelini but stoops is bullshit. fuck OU

Screw the Big XII and it's belligerent, hypocritical coaches.

I can see an argument for Leach I suppose. But I thought Texas wasn’t supposed to be that great this year? Weren’t we preseason number 10? Weren’t we picked to finish 3rd in the Big XII with a few losses? Wasn’t this supposed to be Tech’s year anyways? And wasn’t OU pretty much exactly what was expected, a national title contender?

Mack Brown should have won it. The Big XII and the BCS are dead to me. I hope the team is so angry that nothing stands in their way at the bowl game and all of next year to the point that opposing coaches pray for mercy when they see Texas on the schedule.

Maybe we need a copy of the pre-season All Big 12 teams.

If I remember, Horns got very few on that, too.

by whills on Dec 3, 2008 12:34 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Green with envy, I suppose.

It is always fashionable to hate everything Texas. All of the morons who choose to live and go to college in less successful/desirable regions of our great nation are simply beside themselves with self-loathing and secret admiration of Texas. Thus, they rebel like any other idiot child, “I hate you, Daddy!” Quite frankly, we must be perfect (undefeated, at least, in this context) in order to overcome the unhealthy psychological reactions of those asswipes mentally ill individuals beyond our borders.

May Colt be with you. Yeah, that's right.

by bfaut86 on Dec 2, 2008 10:08 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Even when we were perfect

It was USC this, USC that. Occasional mention of Vince Young. “Oh he went into Ohio State and won? Huh, That’s nice but look what Leinart and Bush did. How about those Trojans!”

God I want nothing more than to see OU screw up this weekend, end up in the Cotton Bowl and watch Snead and Ole Miss lay into OU so that they can go back to that cesspool of a state with two losses in the Cotton Bowl this season.

by seth78 on Dec 3, 2008 12:59 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Cotton bowl?

I think if OU loses they fall all the way to the Holiday bowl, since 11-1 Tech would still get the Cotton Bowl. Even sweeter.

God,

it sucks that’ll never happen, because it would be AMAZING,

by BrooklynHorn on Dec 3, 2008 2:50 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

the Big12 has no cred what so ever in my mind...

…but what does this do to Colt and his plans to return/go to the draft?

But really also, if I’m in the Texas locker room, I AM PISSED OFF at the college football world right now. Who wants to line up against eleven pissed off Musschamps? This is a chance to show everyone what a fuck up of a system this is. Texas needs to stomp their bowl game opponent like a narc at a biker rally. I look forward to this, I have a lot of pent up anger about this snub. It’s like the trip to Dallas and everything was just for nothing. If the games don’t count, why play them? I’m looking forward to Texas taking it out on someone. I almost feel sorry for the team that has to face them (not really).

...and ou still sucks.

by UTHomeSearch on Dec 3, 2008 2:25 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

no surprise, kinda makes sense even

the same reason texas doesn’t get any props from the coaches is the same reason why every texas college football player who isn’t playing at ut hates us and why every coach who coaches a texas college school hates us. they WISH they could be here, and failing that, takes the other direction — hate, hate, hate. no big whoops.

Sooner thank you to Longhorn fans

Dear Longhorn Fans,

Your constant whining and moaning these past few weeks has brought joy to Norman. It’s truly awesome to watch Texas Longhorn fans act as if the Texas Tech loss never happened and ignore the fact that it was indeed a 3 way tie while clinging to their head to head debate. If beating OU is what you have to hang your hat on this season. Great! We’ve got bigger fish to fry now.

Have fun watching OU once again play in the Big 12 title game.
