Honestly, and I’m not pulling this out of my rear to be arrogant either, you’d be hard pressed to find a single degree program at Tech that wasn’t better at Texas.

Fun little story:

I got into UT on a probational basis back in 2002. A few months prior, I got an offer of automatic admission plus a giant scholarship offer to Tech, unsolicited in the mail.

I once mentioned applying to Tech as a backup school for that reason. I mentioned this at school. Two teachers pulled me aside after class and told me that I “had far too much potential” to do something like that. I told my mother. She collapsed in a heap in the kitchen and started crying. My father just shook his head and sighed.

I didn’t apply.

A few years later, I’m at a career fair with one of my buddies. I’m talking to a rep from a pretty prestigious PR firm in Dallas about how he’s been to schools all around the state and such. I ask him off hand what the worst place he’d been was, fully expecting him to say something about College Station. “Lubbock the guy says.” I ask him why. “It’s a waste of time. I might as well be at ACC.”

Seriously, congrats on the win this year. I’m sure it was great for you guys. But lets be honest here. I’d be utterly shocked if Tech had a better academic record than Texas on anything, from accounting to journalism (that’s me) to zoology.

….but the plane we hired to fly over the bedlam game was just awesome, right?
