The last name of James is fake! Interesting how much he adored Kelvin Sampson. Sampson must have ripped his heart out.

but, Damion James is not the biggest thing to happen to Nacogdoches. He certainly has the potential to be, but Clint Dempsey has etched out a much bigger star so far in their respective careers. He was named the 2006 Player of the Year, for the USA Men’s National Team in soccer, and scored a goal in the World Cup. It doesnt get much better than that. Not to mention the fact that last year he led his English Premier League team in scoring.

I know soccer isn’t the most popular sport in the USA but it is in the rest of the world, I just hope it continues to grow here in the states. Does anyone know why UT does not have a Men’s soccer team? I know that the big 12 doesnt really have a mens soccer league, but that doesnt really matter in college soccer, we could easily join a league.

Hopefully one day Damion James will be one day thought of like Clint currently is, as one of America’s best!

*great article besides that though, it definitely reminded me of growing up in “nac-town”

The long and short of it is, there is no Men’s soccer team because we have a Football team. Ill let someone who knows the article number to reply in more detail if needed.

Because the article stipulates that for every dollar and scholarship that is spent on men’s athletics has to be equally spent on women’s, UT has decided to not field a men’s soccer team. In order to field such a team the amount of capital needed would actually be double due to the new women’s team in some other sport that would also have to be created. By only maintaining a total of twenty teams the Athletic Department is able to spend more money and more time on ensuring that the sports that we do have are the best and are able to compete for a championship every year. If you want a more in depth read on this may i suggest the Texas Monthly from a few months back with Deloss and the rest of the coaches (except Rick) on the cover.
