Dr. Saturday on McFarland
Not a whole lot new here, really, besides the assertion that the piece is "generally outstanding." Hmm. Doesn't take much scrolling down to determine what I think about the quality of the article.

Good heavens
PB, you need to email Matt Hinton and call him out on this one. I would think he would have a lot better critical reading skills than that garbage analysis of the article.

not a terrible article, it doesn’t refute much of what was said, however he does point out the hypocrisy of sanctifying oklahoma, home of barry switzer. mostly just a summarized regurgitation of the original NYT article.

Wow
I’m through with Dr. S. Ever since he moved he’s been steadily crawling towards ESPN-level analysis. I never would have expected this from him, especially after all those piece-by-piece devourings of fellow bloggers’ pieces I came to enjoy on SMQ. I guess the NYT is beyond reproach in his mind.
But I’d better be careful: As a lowly blogger, it’s open-season for me.

Sometimes
I guess for some it’s about what puts more dinners on the table, not what’s accurate, logical, and requires some thought.
Perhaps the most recognizable mascot in sports, and certainly the toughest looking, Bevo is a fixture

Dinner with the president
So some Longhorn fans had strippers at a Dallas hotel. Wow! Stop the presses. That’s… not really newsworthy.
The president of a so-called research university has dinner with an 18-year-old and no one finds that level of behavior surprising or abhorrent? Good to know the senior management at Texas have better things to do with their dinners.

A sad case of people "wanting to believe"
I’m all about “We’re Texas” – we’ve got great programs across the board in Athletics, and they’re clean – can’t be more proud of that.
This, however, is a situation where people like to pounce – almost like saying “yeah, it isn’t all Roses at UT – no better than the rest”.
Definitely not perfect, but I’ll stand behind what we put on the Field/Court/Track/Water/Diamond anytime.
