Sergio Kindle Update
According to Chip Brown's source Sergio Kindle is leaning toward returning next year, and said the odds are "60-40".
You can find the article here--
If you are not a paid subscriber, I'll try summarize it as much as possible.
-Muschamp met with Kindle and his Dad sometime over Christmas, and by all accounts it was solid meeting.
-The source close to the situation stated, Muschamp advised Sergio "if he gets a first-round grade that he needs to go."
-Muschamp believes Sergio at this point Kindle is suited to be a linebacker in a 3-4 defense, which decreases his odds of getting drafted in first round since only 7 teams in the NFL run the 3-4.
-Muschamp wants to turn Kindle in to an "elite" pass rusher as well as a outside linebacker so he could a good fit on any NFL defense.
-The relationship between Kindle and Muschamp is the main reason Kindle is leaning towards returning. His best friends on the team are Seniors and if Muschamp had left "it's almost a certainty Kindle would be gone to the NFL, the source said".
As a side note, Kindle grew 1 inch this past year to put him at a solid 6-5 and weighing 240.

Wow, 6’5" 240lbs., fast, and vicious. As long as he stays healthy, scouts will be drooling. I think he’d be well advised to stay another season and shoot for a top-ten pick in 2010.

I actually had that very name typed into my post, but I deleted it because Ware played a true DE game at Troy.

Thats like comparing Shawn Merriman to D. Ware.

DeMarcus Ware isn’t a street thug like Merriman.

Talking about on the field play. Why is Merriman a street thug? Because he did steroids? He actually does a lot for the community unlike other big NFL stars.

He was thug trash here in MD. He had a reputation as a gang-banger, and it was well-deserved.

huh?
I’m not sure if I understand what you’re saying here – do you mean that sergio is actually exactly like Shawn Merriman?

Yeah, this is a little strange how this has taken a weird turn toward Merriman. He’s a good OLB, but steroids sure help, and he was a thug off the field anyway. I don’t think Kindle needs steroids.

Sergio coming back would be huge.
If hes projected a first rounder so be it, but it would be monstrous for us to get his pass rush back for next year.

It seems each year
about 50 to 60 players are told they are first round picks, in a league with 32 teams. So while Sergio is probably not a first rounder, that doesn’t mean he won’t be told he is. Let’s hope that all the Longhorns get realistic assessments, both for their sake and the team’s. It is sad when a player leaves early and then doesn’t get drafted until a late round, or not at all. There are too many people who stand to benefit from convincing a player that he is better than he really is. And, who among us is not susceptible to being told how good they are?

Rivals/Yahoo has him as the #73 prospect. Let’s hope that’s the prognosis he gets.

Of course, that’s not to say that I don’t think he’s better than that. He has the potential to be an early pick, but it would be a projection pick. I think he could almost lock up a top-ten pick if he were to return and have a season like this one.

Kindle is raw and needs to improve on his pass rushing skills. Also, he has to work on disengaging blockers before someone spends a first round pick on him.

NFL Evaluation
I am pretty sure all Texas prospectsget their evaulation straight from the NFL The reason it seems so many are given a first round grade is becaue there are so many “draft experts”. Plus, with agents involved they always tell the players they are first round material.
In Sergio’s case, he could potentially be a first round pick just because he could show freakish athletic ability at the Combine. This was mentioned in the article, and I believe that to be completely true. Also, If he dominates in the Fiesta Bowl his stock would increase dramatically. The NFL draft is a screwy deal, ask Troy Smith, he was being mentioned as a 1st/2nd round pick his Senior year until he was exposed in the MNC against Florida. One game can change everything.

I think the fact that Smith was short and didn’t have particularly outstanding accuracy or arm strength hurt him more than one bowl performance did.

One more year
I think Kindle has yet to meet his potential at the college level. Because of various setbacks, he has not reached the height we all know he can. I would love to see him become the true beast we all know he is capable of.
by JohnsonUT on Dec 31, 2008 8:03 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Agree. The premiums on beastly rush ends has gone up dramatically.
Sergio is getting better at pursuit angles, coverage and tackling in the open field, but all of those can stand improvement. Really, he has had one good season. With another, Sergio could elevate himself to the top 10 category if he comes back. He’s a growing kid.

Aside from all this great talk
…. I’m kind jealous that he grew an inch as a 20 year-old this past year.

surely she was talking about my height…

What they want to do is score a touchdown here...
John Madden has a way of making the average TV football watcher not want to go to the restroom and miss nuggets like this, “Now this next play they’re either gonna run the ball or pass the ball”.
Plus don’t mess with John too much. You saw what being on his cover has done so far for Vince’s NFL career….

Haha, true
That man is a witch. Look what he did this year. We have Favre in a Packer uniform on the cover, and not only is there a very painful divorce between Green Bay and Favre that causes a huge media circus, Favre tanks towards the end and the Jets miss the playoffs despite an 8-3 start. The Packers finish 5-11 even though Rodgers plays decent. It’s pretty funny.

Sergio Wise To Stay
Too many LBs out there this year and so precious few slots in first round for LBs. No way he goes before Maleulga or Laurenitis. In addition, Maybin from Penn State looking to be OLB for 3-4 and is now slated for a top 5 pick.

brandon spikes from florida might be coming out as well and would likely go ahead of kindle.
by Displaced Longhorn on Jan 1, 2009 11:03 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Depends on the scheme, but I would tend to agree. Unless a team specifically wants a Boulware-type OLB, they take Spikes over Kindle at this point.
