Mike Leach offer on the table

Mike Leach was given an offer by Tech:

12.1 million over 5 years. That's a whooole lotta money.

I tried to look up how much Mack makes, and I saw the figure of 2.55 million / yr. If that's true then Leach's offer would bring him close. Does that make Leach one of the top paid coaches?

If that's the case, I could see him staying at Tech... or will Auburn up the ante?

He beats the 41-year-old man by $180k per year.

Leach $2.42 m/yr to $2.24 m/yr.

These were the top three as of 1/16/08 from the Wiz of Odds:
3. Mangino $2.3 m/yr 7/16/08
2. Mack $2.55 m/yr
1. Stoops $3.8 m/yr linky goodness

So, Leach moves up to number three but is close to Mack. I can see some more negotiations.

Gundy doesn’t quite make, can continue to tilt at windmills.

Auburn's AD

Stated Thursday that they are going to pay their new coach in the Nick Saban/Les Miles silly dollars range. Aside from Stoops, Big XII schools have a long way to go to catch up with that particular arms race.

I’m torn over all this. I want Leach to stay at Tech and continue to make the Big XII even more competitive and prominent nationally. On the other hand, the thought of that random, unedited mind of his let loose here in Alabama makes me giddy. Truly a match made in comedy heaven!

Leach is good for Big 12, Lubboch and Tech

His zany pirate character is a perfect fit for Lubbock and Tech. How many coaches could go into Lubbock and recruit against Texas and OU and build the program to where it is?

Yes, he says things sometimes that are crazy and whined about refs in Texas games. However, the man is an offensive coaching genuis and I hope he stays at Tech.

We've been following it pretty close.

I at first thought Leach would leave, but now I expect his agent and Tech to work it out by the end of this coming week.

Go Tech!!!

Dollar Signs $ | $

That is a lot of money, but I think Leach has realized that he has taken Tech as far as they will be able to go in the Big 12. He’s gonna have to contend with the OU’s, TX’s, OSU’s for years to come. Granted, if he ends up at Auburn he still has a lot to deal with, but I think he likes the challenge. He had the same challenge years ago when he took over at Tech, and he set the bar high. I think he wants to show he can do that at Auburn. War Eagle!

Believe it or not Leach and his wife truly do like Lubbock. This issue wouldn’t be one if Gerald Meyers didn’t have his ego wrapped up in Tech. Meyers wants desperately to be the face of Tech, but it’s obvious that will neve happen. He’s never really warmed to Leach and Leach knows it.

The only reason he’s explored other jobs is he doesn’t feel wanted by some of his bosses at Tech. Rumor in Lubbock is that Graham went off on his own to make his comments to try and prompt the administration to make their offer sooner. It worked.

This isn’t about money for Leach. The offer will put him among the top 15 nationally. Very fair for a guy who hasn’t really won anything of note in his career. He just wants the administration at Tech to want him as much as he wants to stay.

Most people just assume he wants out of Lubbock because it’s Lubbock, or that he took Tech as far as he ever could. I think after a season like this, it’s just the beginning. Tech has been knocking on the door of Really Good for about 5 yrs now. I think he knows the quality of recruit keeps getting better and better and our ability to compete with OU/UT will only increase. He’d like nothing more to remove the smirk from Stoops’ face.

He’ll sign by Monday.

It's a tough decision...

… although I hear that he’s not even a candidate at Auburn anymore, anyway.

Think about it: Your stock will never be higher. He just had “The Best Season in Tech History.” If anyone’s going to take a chance on Leach, they’re going to do it when everyone’s talking about him and they feel like they have to snatch him up before someone else does. That time should have been now. If Leach goes elsewhere now, he’s risking not meshing with the culture at a place with actual football tradition. If he stays, he’ll have to endure Taylor Potts and likely no Crabtree next year, plus everyone’s figured out that his defense is still no good (except Greg Davis, natch). He’ll fade back into the shadows for a good year or two, minimum if he stays at Tech, where those who stay are pretty much never going to be champions. The plus side of staying is that I’m sure he really likes Lubbock, because they are just as screwed up as him, and he’s going to get a ton of money (where they get that stuff, I’ll never know).

HOWEVA! It seems that no one is interested in him outside of Tech (don’t tell them that). So this is pretty much a moot point. I think Leach stays for at least one more beating in DKR, which we will all enjoy so thoroughly that I can’t even wait.

Speaking of Auburn, try this for some real entertainment

Remarks from Auburn assistant coaches’ wives, which indict both Auburn and Alabama. Scorned women get even, oh year. as Amy and Donna rip it up. (Via barking carnival.)
Southern women kick ass.

I don't get it

Don’t you have Southern women in the state of Texas? You did when I went to school there!
