To clarify
The rumor is that Fox is pursuing Texas and working to get them in. Which makes sense…put Utah closer to home. Put us closer to NO. The Sugar Bowl ends up being a huge game resembling the Rosebowl of ’04.

Utah actually played a Division 1 schedule, unlike Hawaii last year. Utah’s legit. Hawaii was not.

I'm so pissed at Stoops. He has killed college football.
From here on out running up the score will be what gets someone to a national title. Makes me want to stop watching NCAA football.

Maybe, but in years past we did equate it to unsportmanlike conduct. Now they're trying to make it acceptable behavior.

you know that trophy they were talking about Bradford possibly winning
named after John Heisman?
He once beat a team 222-0. Running up the score is as old as the game itself.

Is there a trophy named for Jack Pardee?
Stoops is a shoo-in.

This is a whole new range of running up the score
and all the brain dead talking heads are yammering how great the Land Thieves are for doing it and setting a record for doing it in consecutive games. What was the spread? Maybe there is some more to the story than it appears.
I felt sorry for all those other players on OU who could have got a chance to play in a big game but didn’t. Stoops and crew thinks that it is more important setting silly records than giving more kids a chance to play, this is still college ball. Well I guess we will see next year after he loses 4 out of 5 offensive linemen and the replacements have no real experience.

eh dont bet on it.
The voters will want the SEC champ v. the BIG12 champ. Thats OU and Florida. The love we got last week from the humans will be lost as votes are “reshuffled”. With Texas effectivley eliminated not going to tthe Big 12 CCG, OU will be number 1 obviously, and Florida number 2. Bama will be 3 and Texas 4 as it loses the pity momentum it got last week. Now that there’s no cause to rally for texas, a lot of our support will evaporate.
by owenh on Dec 6, 2008 11:06 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I concur.
With the exception that I think Bama will be ahead of us in both human polls (my small margins) but behind us in the BCS.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Assuming Cincy wins (they’re up 10-3 at the half right now), Texas should have a small lead in the computers. If OU gets a unanimous #1 vote, and we assume that Texas and Florida get all the #2 and #3 votes (Bama could get some #3 votes, but for now let’s assume not), Texas would only need 1/3 of the #2 vote for the computers to pull them ahead. That’s somewhat unlikely but not entirely implausible.

Ugh we had better get Ohio State
Granted Utah and Boise are good in their own right and by no means are they not respected, but I want to play a NAME school, not some obscure team with nothing to lose and everything to play for. Its a no win situation. Lose, your are officially pantsed with everyone watching (see OU v. Boise St). Win and its no biggie, you were supposed to win. So glad freakin Ball State lost. Takes one wannabe out of the picture. Christ they lost to BUFFALO.

by RuckusG on Dec 6, 2008 11:35 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Actually it's more than that
the Horns were one dropped ball from going undefeated and staying at #1, beating Missouri and going onto play Florida. Then OU passes us up, Why is that not because their defense held the other team they beat from scoring but because they ran the score up over the last five games and the Voters rewarded their offense for scoring so many points instead of rewarding the Horns because Mack Brown pulled the 1st stringers in the 3rd quarters when the games were in the bag and the voters also didn’t didn’t reward the Horns defense for being better than OU’s.
by Xerxes on Dec 7, 2008 12:50 AM CST up reply actions 1 recs
Putting in the back-ups is also an investment
and OU didn’t make much of that, something which could haunt them in the future.

I feel bad for you guys.
Your 11-1 season was baiscally for nothing. I wish my program could pull an 11-1 season anytime soon. The BCS and college football has officially become a joke. There is no class, objectivity, and common sense anywhere. Whether it is with joke announcers like Danielson, joke coaches like Stoops, or joke administrations/system that rewards a team going 9-4 to a good bowl game while teams that go 11-1 and 12-0 go to shit holes like the Cotton Bowl or Boise, Idaho. You guys come with one play of going undefeated and playing for everything and your reward is to go play in some Mexican bowl and play a blacker and better version of Stephen McGee in a meaningless bowl game with a disgusting trophy.
I know your coach and your AD won’t do this but if you guys want to make a statement to the BCS,college football, FOX/ESPN, and Conference Officials reject your bowl bid. Let Boise State or Texas Tech take your place.

The only thing as good as seeing us win a BCS bowl
is seeing OU choke yet again in front of the nation. Hopefully Colt gets the Heisman and then the hype starts up for Florida and OU. Then Bradford throws a few picks to the gator defense and UF blows them out.

NC Could Still Happen
Look, it’s a battle between which 1-loss team finishes #2 in the BCS – Florida or Texas. Let’s look at the resume’s:
Texas Best Win: Florida Best Win:
OU, likely BCS #1 or 2 Alabama, likely BCS #3-5
Texas Loss: Florida Loss:
TTU, likely BCS #6-7 Ole Miss, likely BCS #23-25 or Unranked
Texas 2nd Best Win: Florida 2nd Best Win:
OK St, likely BCS #13 Georgia, likely BCS #16
Texas Worst Win: Florida Worst Win:
Baylor (4-8, Div 1) Citadel (4-8, Div 2)
So, the computers should still have Texas way ahead of Florida today. And unless voters put Florida at #1, ahead of OU, and put UT at #4-5, behind Alabama and maybe USC then UT should/could still pull out the BCS NC game.
If voters put Florida #2 and Texas #3, like they could reasonably do, the computer lead UT has will compensate and put UT in the NC game. Voters would have to say ’Bama’s 1-loss was less embarrassing than UT’s, and maybe even push USC ahead of UT this week
And countless voters who put UT at #1-2 last week from our lobbying efforts would have to rethink their votes and put UT at #4-5 this week for the voter advantage Florida would have to overcome the computer deficit they’ll have.
So, what I’m saying here is unless voters slam UT this week down to #4-5 and pump Florida up to #1, ahead of OU, UT has an even-up shot of ending up in Miami like Florida does. No advantage to either team, I don’t concede anything yet, and until the numbers are announced this evening, I believe UT will still get into the NC game, barring a total collapse of support for UT in the Top 5 after this weekend. You read it here first!

It is what it is
but I’m still having a very difficult time getting past the fact that Florida lost to an unranked Ole Miss team AT HOME while Texas lost to a top 10 team, in a hostile environment on the road and only due to two fluke plays – the dropped INT and Cracktree’s circus catch to end the game.

Final Polls
Today’s Coaches and Harris Polls are the ones made public. We’ll be able to see who placed what team where. Aside from last week, does anyone else believe that a majority of the voters will fix this last ballot ie as many #1s for Florida and placing Texas #4/5 just to ensure no rematch?
by HornsFaninCalifornia on Dec 7, 2008 7:51 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
No. We are giving voters too much credit.
It’s easy for us internet geeks to imagine that this scenario is on everyone’s minds and that voters will monkey with the system and only monkey with it in such a way as to hurt, not help, Texas.
In reality, though the scenario got some mention this week, it was by and large dismissed by most. I can’t imagine that there would be more than a handful of voters who would take this scenario under consideration, and it’s no lock that all of those voters would do so in a way harmful to Texas.
Plus a lot of voters and analysts are just plain dumb. I mean, Musburger spent the fourth quarter last night talking about how OU’s extra TDs might have been all they needed to ensure a spot in Miami. And there was that one Harris Poll voter interviewed last week who thought PSU was still undefeated.
I’d expect most ballots to be played straight up. And with straight up ballots, though the vast majority of the ballots will have OU and UF at #1, some (Mack!) will have us at #1, and a few might have USC, PSU and Utah at #1.

Fiesta
Texas-Ohio State Fiesta – yes, we will go but…………..
Texas-Utah Fiesta – No way as Texas is in a no win situation
Texas-Alabama Sugar – a ticket to die for and a shot at redemption and possible AP championship if things go right in the chokelahoma-gator game.
Man, I am so conflicted on the OU-Fla MNC game (if that is what happens). After this latest BCS debacle, I want so much to have OU pouned by Fla and suffer their 5th straight BCS loss. However, that may not be the best thing for us to root for, probably better for a closer Fla win over OU. Rats…..

What I find most frustrating is the forgotten game.
Last night on College Football Final, I listened to two douchebags and a suit say that there isn’t anyone that can slow down the OU offense. What? 45-35? That game was decided by defensive stops. We had more stops, thus we won. May’s only saving grace is calling out Holtschz on his sudden Heisman flip-flop to chub up Tebow’s chances for a repeat.
45-35
11-1
I am so proud of this team. I am so proud of the program. Thanks Mack. Politicking is far better sportsmanship than running up the score in rivalry and championship games.
Hook ’em.
