PrintI'm getting sick and tired of Stoops running up the score and then claiming the high ground. This is blatant unsportsmanlike conduct and teams and coaches that participate should be penalized for this behavior.
The University of Houston did this back in the 60's when they beat up on a poor team, 100-0 and were censored by the general public and other schools. Where is the shame today. We just label it "Style Points" and suddenly it is okay.
Bad behavior is NEVER OKAY!!

Not the same
1st team was pulled from the game before halfway through the third quarter. The last three touchdowns came from a blocked punt and two Colorado turnovers deep in their own territory. Texas attempted all of three passes in the second half (all of which were on third and long).
Oklahoma starters played the entire game. 18 pass attempts in the second half.
so again I ask my question
What constitutes running up the score, the point differential or the ammount of time left when you pull your starters?
As with most things, it is subjective.
I think it depends on the circumstance. Time and point differential both matter. If you’ve managed to build a substantial lead on a strong team that you think has a chance of getting back into it, you keep playing. If it’s clear that the other team is over-matched you pull back. I’m sure most coaches and players would agree that somewhere in the third is the time to take your foot off the gas. Others might feel that it should be somewhere in the 4th. What’s absolutely clear to me is that throwing deep with 4 minutes left in the game and a 30+ point lead is clearly a case of running it up.
I’ve heard some defend OU’s starters remaining in the CCG because Sam Bradford is playing for a Heisman. So was VY in the 2005 CCG but Mack pulled him. I know you have ties to Colorado and can’t fault you if you think the UT starters playing the first series in the second half constitutes running it up. I would disagree but, regardless, it is not even close to what Stoops did last Saturday.

When we scored 70 this was with all of our backups. Bradford just took shots into the end zone.
These guys are utterly, utterly classless.
It is also shameful that this is being celebrated by ABC.
Sportsmanship is dead.
Thats what there slogan should have read for the Big 12 championship game.

OU was just up 55-21 with 4 minutes left and they still had all their starters in and were throwing passes down field… they have no class… i hope florida beats them by 60

So is it the time left in the game or point differential
that decides when running up the score counts as unsportsmanlike conduct? Because we were up 42 to 3 at the beginning of the second half, a point differential that OU has now just reached, and the first play from scrimmage was at 17 yard pass from VY to Quan.

I almost wish someone from Missouri would lay a monumental cheap shot on Bradford. That would serve Poops right. Gee, I wonder if he is padding Bradford’s stats for the Heisman too?? He has 7 rushing TD’s?!?!? Does he even have that many for the whole season?? Any coincdence he’s trying to make a better all around comparison to Colt??

from Stoops. This is typical behavior from him. Urban Meyer does the same thing. They are both jerks. I’m no Gator fan, but I’ll do a little Gator Chomp (with my thumb and pointer finger) when they play the sooners. I hate stoops. I hope he gets run over by the stupid sooner schooner.
