USA Today Coaches Poll: Florida and OU essentially tied for #1
This is horrible news for Texas. The Longhorns are behind Florida by 73 votes. Even with a .04 advantage in the computers, which is about as much as we could hope for, Texas would need to be ahead of Florida in the Harris poll. This isn't going to happen. Last week's Harris had Florida #2, Texas #3, and OU #4. It is not a stretch to predict Florida and OU taking the top spots this week.

i’ve f-ing had it. Let’s go to whatever bowl they tell us and begin the bloody campaign of domination and humiliation that will end only when we raise the MNC trophy next year.

Stoops is classless...and OU, get ready for your thumping by FL and another well coached team...the first well coached team you faced this season beat you in October. This next one will pound you on January 8th. We will see you in our rear view mirror.

Since you lost on the field to Tech
you’re going to pass on the Fiesta Bowl and give it to Tech, right?? Because, head to head, Tech beat you, 39-33, right… UT and Tech have the same record… But, they beat you head to head, so, according to UT’s math, they’re the better team, and they should go to the Fiesta Bowl, and UT to the Cotton….
by TexasSooner on Dec 7, 2008 12:31 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm not arguing that we should go, though I think we should...
But it’s pretty pathetic that you choose to taunt the fans of a team that beat you on a neutral field. Scoreboard?
by jw4425 on Dec 7, 2008 12:33 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Not a taunt
I’m proud of UT, actually….. I want them to do well, win their bowl game.
I said WEEKS ago that if UT won at Tech they’d win it ALL… But if Tech beat them, this is where we’d be…..
BUT, I will point out that UT’s argument is not necessarily the whole story, that the whole season DOES have everything to do with it.

Your loss to UT was not abysmal. FL loss to Ole Miss, while unranked and at home, was not abysmal. TT got destroyed and you simply are eliminated by that performance in CF for the MNC. You know this…don’t be prideful. Just be glad the system worked for you this season and TRY not to lose another BCS game…

This is not the same team of years past. And, the more adversity placed against them has helped them all the more. I AM prideful that after the UT loss the team COULD have floundered, but instead found ways to improve.

I tip my hat to Texas
UT beat us that day. I have NEVER denied that. Every post I’ve ever made on here has never argued that we got BEAT that day. I’ve not thrown up the ‘Reynolds’ argument, or other things. UT out and out beat us. I think OU played their worst game of the year, and that if they played THAT day 10 times, OU wins 6, but does it matter?? No, UT was the victor….. Plain and simple…
My only stance is that since then, Oklahoma has become much improved. More focused, more determined, and really playing more like they are capable….
by TexasSooner on Dec 7, 2008 12:45 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
since then, stoops has run up the score against hapless defenses...
passing last night with 4 minutes to go into the end zone from 45yards away is all you need to know about little game bobby. The system is unfair…usc got hosed, now UT gets hosed and you were the benefactor each time. I do not know why the media dry humps the leg of stoops…good luck against FL…you will need to play perfect football to win that game.
Additionally, I would say that UT’s worst game of the year was at TT…this proves what exactly? NADA…it was a loss. The system is abysmal…period.

Not so fast
In all other games than this one, OU is no more guilty of using their first-teamers than Texas has been. The attempt to try to make OU appear to be aberrant in this is ludicrous. OU and UT’s second string players have accrued about the same amount of play this year, with UT achieving MANY more points under their belt. So if anything, OU was very INEFFICIENT with their second string.
But this game WAS different. OU had taken a lot of lip during the week. From Texas. From Missouri. From ‘renowned’ analysts that likened this game to 2003, projecting another shocking surprise that the Sooners would be unprepared for.
Guess what. Oklahoma was ready. Oklahoma had EVERY reason to score as many as they could. First of all, Missouri could STOP THEM, if they could. Guess what, they couldn’t. Second of all, they had something to prove. You don’t think we’re very good? Guess what, we ARE.
Colt and Chase talked during the week. C’mon Chase, these Sooners aren’t so great, you can shock the world.
Turn the game around. Put Missouri ahead 31-10, do you think Chase would have been on the bench? Hell no.
You want to blame Oklahoma for playing 60 minutes? You want to blame Oklahoma for having a potent offense? You want to blame the offensive line for working this summer to lose weight, to become agile, to gain stamina to be able to play 60 minutes, to dominate the line? You want to blame players for practicing, for fine tuning, for excelling above and beyond their peers?
Why don’t you put the blame where it belongs. On the opposing DEFENSE. It’s OU’s fault they’re not in condition? That they can’t play 60 minutes?
One last comment. Before you dare get holier than thou, look back at 2005. 70-3. Where was the ‘mercy’? Where was the ‘taking the knee’. Oh yeah, that was Mack Brown trying to get VY a Heisman….. Texas’ hypocrasy obviously has short memories……
by TexasSooner on Dec 7, 2008 12:55 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah except...
It was 70-3 with 7 minutes left in the third. We weren’t bombing it with 4 minutes left to go. Colorado didn’t even try to contest that game. We could have scored over 100 easily.

Okay, so.......
So, 63-3 wasn’t enough? 56-3? When was enough??
I actually don’t really find a problem with that game, and yes, it was just a horrid CU defense, and UT let up early early on…….
My point was, last night’s game, YES, I wholly agree, the team, the fans, the coaches, and the players, WANTED points, and for the reasons I’ve stated. And to include history. But, before last night’s game, no, they didn’t play any more or less than UT did during the season

It wasn’t OU that screwed us. It was the system and the coaches who fell in love with that 60pts/gm offense that need to be blamed. Its the fun thing to do….jump on the “I really hate OU alot more now” bandwagon, but they’re no different than they were the first week of October. You’re extra hatred is wasted and pointsless because at the end of the day, they have a shot at hoisting that crystal ball and we do not. As messed up as it is, we have to move on. Doesn't matter who put OU on top
This will the top moment in the history of our rivalry, whether you like it or not. The fact that OU benefited from our misfortune with the help of computers and then came out laughing by the dozen does feel like a screw job to me. Even if we win our bowl game, this will go down in history where OU came out on top over UT and their fans will never make us forget it. They’ll never make us forget that they went to the national championship game and we didn’t. I will tell you that this brick will be throwing us for years and until we match with a bigger screw job, this rivalry will be swaying back in favor for the OU fans

My guess is UF coaches will use our blueprint
to beat OU. Percy Harvin will be playing the role of Jordan Shipley. The ou linebackers wont be able to keep up. Ou offense will tire when the meet another team who can score quickly. That no huddle thing hurt them in RRS. Look at the video, all the linemen were sucking wind in the fourth quarter. Florida can score quickly, but they are not in a hurry.
by jrod23mc on Dec 7, 2008 12:55 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
That's a good point...........
I certainly don’t think we can stop UF, not in a normal sense.
OU didn’t get ANY turnovers against UT, but since then this has become a major part of the defense. They bend a lot, but get the occasional turnover which helps the offense. If there’s any factor for OU, I’m hoping that’s it….

But what has happened since…..
Voters haven’t forgotten OU’s loss, what’ they’ve done is determined that in SPITE of the loss, OU has overcome it….. ONE of those factors would be the game OU had against Tech, not just the score, but the game….

Why are we still debating? Its over. OU is going an Texas isnt. Its like demanding a recound of the 2004 election. Like it or not, it is what it is. No one cheated and Texas has no reason to be upset with anyone except the system. I wish that the NCG was between OU and Texas. That would be an epic game with more emotion than anything we have ever seen. But, in this weird system losing early is rewarded despite everything else you do.
What REALLY needs changing is the Big 12 championship game structure. The North is not competetive. It should be the top two teams period.

On theory.........
On theory I agree that the championship game should be revamped… The whole concept though, is that since all teams can’t play all teams, the best of each division should be the best teams (which we know is not true). But all teams can’t play each other.
What happened in the SEC THIS year I think is an example of how it’s SUPPOSED to work.
Personally, I’d have no problem either restructuring, and letting the two teams with the best record play, although it would certainly knock 1 team (at least) out of a big bowl, but that’s the way it goes.
I think the best tie breaker (because I think we’d STILL need a tie breaker in such a situation) would be for either the coaches of the teams of coincidence (in-conference schools that the tied schools played) or all of the remaining non-tied schools to vote. It’s OUR conference, so OUR coaches should vote…..
by TexasSooner on Dec 7, 2008 1:36 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Voting will lead to arguments. Someone is always going to feel screwed when it comes down to opinions over facts. If the top two teams in the big 12 had played for the big 12 title this year, there wouldnt be anything to debate.
And if each big 12 teams played an 11 game season without the preseason scrubs, every team in the big 12 could play each other.
Another alternative is to get rid of some of the weakest links. Teams like Baylor and Iowa State.
by imakefights on Dec 7, 2008 1:41 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
We can't get rid of Baylor,
because without Baylor it would be OU & OSU (trailer park), Tech (tumbleweeds), and A&M (no need to go into this) alongside the greatness of UT. I say that no matter what, we need an additional school that is not laughable in the southern division so the whole division does not receive an automatic birth for hick-est division in college football.

I don’t know if you have ever been to Waco, but its one of the most dangerous and crime rodden cities in Texas. Its dangerous. Your stereotypes are laughable at best. You think that UT is morally superior than everybody else in the Big 12 South. You go off the stereotypes way too much. You don’t really know much about your school. The differences between UT and A&M outside of football are very slim. It used to be a “culture clash” but it isn’t anymore.

Even if we go to a playoff (which is the ONLY sensible thing in the world, when will it happen please???), there will still be a team or two ‘on the outside’ that will have arguments that it should have been included in…. There will ALWAYS be arguments, no matter HOW any system is designed….
Watch out for Baylor, they will be 4th or maybe even 3rd next year in the south… Griffin is the next VY, and their offense is only going to get better and better…..
I still think it’s only fair to let the coaches that have actually seen and PLAYED the teams to vote… OUR conference, let them decide…..

Official UT got the shaft thread...
When will this be up. Awww F it, I’m going back to bed for a couple of weeks.

This is absolutely pathetic
we kill the number 1 team 34-14 down the stretch of that game, and we have the ‘best loss’ of any one loss teams and we are going to be in the top 2 of the computers by a good margin, but the voters collude because Tim Tebow is going to be a TE at the next level.
ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC.

Sagarin......
Has UT #3, not in the top 2. But, I haven’t seen any of the others yet…..

no Sagarin
has UT number 2. Look at the Elo Chess rankings

You're right
For the BCS rankings… I’m used to reading Sagarin for the SAGARIN rankings. Apologies

Well
The thing is, I wish UT well. I’d have not said that before this year, but Colt has made me a fan. I’ve watched EVERY game of UT’s this year, and admire them. So, whoever they play come January, they’d better look out. I’m sure UT will take a lot of frustrations out on them.
And, next year ought to be fun.

4 ou offensive linemen gone
We’ll see how good Bradford is next year.

That's if he stays
A possible Heisman and MNC win in his pocket. Would you stick around if you had the chance to make millions and get out of Oklahoma? Hell even if you take away the millions being able to get out of that state would be more than worth it to leave early.

If Sam goes
And if I remember correctly, Joey Halzle is a senior now…who would be the QB?

Couldn't disagree more
Except that he will be a TE. We would never KILL FLorida.

This is how we feel
imaging how fla fans would feel, they beat alabama, but it’s still OU vs. Alabama in the NC game.

ou fans
think they are soooo much better now than they were in October. ou’s offense is great, but their defense and special teams are mediocre at best just like they were when Texas beat them. If Z. Robinson ran all over the sooner defense, I can’t wait to see what Tebow does!
by Longhorns84 on Dec 7, 2008 2:13 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
They think they're better now
because Stoops lets the starters play four quarters and run up the score even when the game is in the bag. They have no defense since losing Reynolds and they’re losing key guys on defense every week. Tebow will have a field day and despite me not liking the gators I’m gonna enjoy every single second of the game.

I'm not sure
but im willing to bet money that Barry Switzer will announce that his sooners will play da gators for NC. Him and his cheating grin…lol

The show is at 7 on Fox
They will somehow stretch the five announcements into a 30 minute special while ESPN confirms who is playing like they do with all stories they don’t break.

Still no new poll as of 3:45. This is strange; the poll is usually out at 3:00.

hmm...
perhaps they are screwing around with the votes so that Florida is assured to make it to the MNC. How mythical it is this year!

by TexasEx01 on Dec 7, 2008 3:51 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I think they figured out that everybody knows how to calculate the winner before the official announcement.
So they’re probably keeping the last one offline until the announcement.
