Dear BCS and Voters: Your Ineptitude is Astounding
I am sorry, but this Longhorn is hot under the collar still. The fact that they have OU ahead of the Horns is laughable. I am sick of the system. If October does not matter, then USC should certainly be in the mix. Why does FL get the freaking pass for their loss to an unranked Ole Miss at home? The manipulation here is tantamount to insider trading. Stockbrokers and executves go to prison for antics like this.
It is time to move the RRR to November. Screw history. And screw the Cotton Bowl while we are at it. Let's move to the comfy confines of the Cowboys' new stadium.
And thank you Kirk Bohls for your #1 vote for the Horns today. John Saunders of ESPN is as cluless as they come. Lupica and the other two cohorts of the day pile on him for loving the current system. A system that produced 7 one loss teams and two undefeateds from non BCS conferences. If the regular season of college football is so damn important, why then must we erase 45-35 simply because OU has a vaunted offense that UT held to 35? Can anyone explain that to me...of course you cannot.
The voters do not want a rematch...check, Fox and the BCS do not want a rematch so it will be "fixed" so UT has no shot...even though our resume is FAR superior to FL regarding best win and loss. What an effing joke. Yeah, that is fair to the kids who poured their hearts and souls out on that football field this season. In case you did not notice, national titles do not come around very often. And you want me to be happy for the Fiesta? Are you serious? I want justice. I want wrongs righted. USC and UT now both have been jobbed by the media stoop humpers.
Memo to Mack: it is time to pile on. Send a pre-season email to all coaches and let them know that UT is out for BCS blood and it is not personal. But we will be hanging as much offense on you as we can...thanks to your votes of putting us behind OUsux. See, it is not personal, just business.
The system is a joke and something must be done. Rewarding mediocrity due to conference ties is criminal. TT deserves $12 million this season...far more so than Va Tech or Cincy. Pee Wee football leagues are better managed when compared to college football's BCS and its gaggle of misfits.
In essence: my biggest problem with this system is there is no closure. None. OU knows that even if they happen to get by FL and UT beats TOSU, with each having a loss, it is a tainted crystal ball they may hoist. So we will have several one loss teams after January 8th. This is certainly one MNC for the ages.

OU/Florida fixed
Can we say now that the National Championship Game if OU and Florida plays in it, will be fixed. Congress needs to have hearings over this crime.

Florida,
I agree, has no business being in front of Texas in the BCS. In my opinion, Oklahoma and Texas are THE best 2 teams in The Country and have shown that week after week on a consistant basis. Has Florida? Uhhhh…not when you lose at home to a non-ranked (at the time) team. Its complete BS that they get the pass and are not even being srcutinized like some other team we know of (OU)

Well said
You make several good points. One is that Tech got screwed worse than we did. At least we got a BCS bowl game. The “share the wealth sort-of” philosophy that prevents more from 2 teams in a conference from playing in BCS games is patently unfair, as is the obverse, guaranteed conference slots no matter how weak the conference that year. Does anyone think Cincinnati, Utah, or Va would have a chance against Tech? And if you are talking about TV audience and money, which would attract more viewers Tech or Cinicinatti?

Thank you for the comment.
Tech does deserve it more than Cinci, or VT. Absolutely. But we’ll go to the Cotton Bowl and feel right at home and embarrass the SEC. This will make the B12 look good we all know, and there’s always next year. Good luck in the BCS Horns. You are deserving.

I agree with it all. Especially the love fest with Florida. How to these people sleep at night?
Florida plays in an inferior conference this year, and lost AT HOME. We lose on a last second play on the road after one of the toughest stretches in NCAAF history. It’s ridiculous.
I can deal with OU being a top 2 team. It makes me sick, but I get it. What don’t get is that people aren’t even taking a second to consider that Texas DOES have a better case than Florida.
People have been so busy jerking off about the SEC for the past few years that everyone seems to agree that the SEC champ is entitled to a MNC spot. It’s bullshit.

The Big 12 South Needs To Win
Wherever OUSux, Tech, OSU, and us end up during the bowl season, we all need to win our games. I’m not saying I’m rooting for OUSux to win, but they need to win.
This is all for positioning in the polls for next year, from a realistic standpoint. Assuming nothing gets done with the BCS, the Big 12 needs to take some of that Rep the SEC is currently getting. Deserved in the past, but not this year.
To your point, Florida (an awesome team, by the way) is living off of the SEC Rep when they didn’t take the big hit for the Ole Miss loss.
The Big 12 teams need to be in that position next year.

Gary Danielson and Verne Lundquist made me vomit.
They just sucked Florida off the whole time. I would like to see Tech play a USC or OSU also. I think we would match up well. I don’t think we’ll fall off much next year. Potts is very good. He has a stronger arm than Harrell. I’m excited. Also, better to go to the Cotton Bowl and win. I’m sure we’re a better football team than Ole’ missy, but that’s why they play the game.

Karma
Texas just learned what karma is all about.
The Longhorns are up in arms about Oklahoma getting voted into the Big 12 title game. They should be. But look beyond the anger. This is payback My Name Is Earl-style.
Rewind to December 4, 2004 when Cal had just won at Southern Miss by 10 points (which included taking a knee with a minute left inside the USM 10) and was ranked No. 4 and in line to get picked up by the Rose Bowl since No. 1 USC was going to the Orange Bowl to win the national title. But then Mack Brown publicly politicked and allegedly made a number of glad-handing phone calls to his poll-voting cronies, begging them to rank his Longhorns ahead of the Bears in the final regular-season poll. This tactic worked. Cal’s lead over Texas in the coaches poll went from 48 points to five allowing the ’Horns to jump the Bears in the final BCS poll and get the Rose Bowl bid.
Guess what Longhorns, 2008 is your karma for 2004. OU gets to go to the Big 12 title game because you only beat the Sooners by 10. Only this time it looks like it cost you a shot at the national title. Grin and bear it.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer team! Go Bears! http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/sportsline

Tech got screwed by another stupid rule
That only two teams in a conference can go unless two teams from the same conference meet in the national title game that aren’t conference champions (yeah, isn’t that cute). I’ll give Tech that; there’s no way the Big East and ACC deserve auto berths over Tech. However, that’s for a BCS game, not the NC. Texas got screwed out of a bigger prize.

Look at the resumes of UT and FL and tell me with a straight face that this season, FL is more deserving…this is SEC bias yet again…nothing more.

OU has no defense outside of Norman. Mizzou is certainly not FL and if they are putting up 20+, I think FL is a shoe in for the 40’s…Mizzou was beat when they walked out of the locker room. FL, I promise you BELIEVES they are going to win.

I certainly hope you're right
OU really hasn’t show much on defense, so I’m with you there. I do think that OU’s offense is better than Florida’s offense, but I guess what I’m not convinced of is Florida’s defensive ability. Sure, their defensive stats are pretty good, but they haven’t played an offense like OU yet. That is what makes me nervous.

Bob loves being an underdog
In fact, aside from the Texas-OU game, I think it’s the only way he finds to get his team up for big games. He’ll find a way to put up some points.
Ideal situation:
OU loses, narrowly, in a barnburner. This way we can stop hearing all this bullsh!t about the Big 12 only putting up big numbers because our defenses are garbage.

Wouldn't the best situation
be for OU to murder Florida? I know this was mentioned somewhere else as a positive, since it would help remove some of the SEC reputation that put an otherwise unimpressive Florida team into the game, while Texas sat out. I still say that I want to see OU crushed, but as far as the best thing for Texas, wouldn’t it be an absolute crushing of Florida?

FL got the nod simply be being SEC champion. I think if OU wins, the are #1 in AP and BCS. I think if FL wins, UT takes AP (40% chance) and FL gets the BCS MNC.

It works both ways
It amazes me that for a week all we heard was head to head and 45-35. Now that ou is going to the national championship game lets talk head to head and 39-33 to determine the other bcs representative. I didn’t think so. It amazes me how ut dismisses the ut/TECH game. The game should have not been that close, Tech had 200 more yards and if not for that one long pass play, TECH would have DOUBLE ut’s yardage.

Yawn
Another idiot.
Orakpo played well against Tech and was HELD THE ENTIRE GAME. Unfortunately, the refs in the Big 12 don’t call holding anymore.
We definitely did not play better when he left. Our offense finally came alive in the second half but we sorely missed his presence on defense. Any idiot with a brain who, you know, watched the game closely knows that.
And I agree the game shouldn’t have been that close; considering how awful Texas played in the first half and that Tech played their best half ever under Leach, it is a testament on how superior Texas is to Texas Tech and reminds us all how rare it is when Tech actually beats us. If Texas came out remotely sharp, Texas wins comfortably. The fact that we laid a giant egg and still almost won says much about Tech, huh?
Shrug. Streaks can’t last forever. I beat my sister 9 out of 10 times in chess. Fortunately, she’s not asinine enough to run around claiming her greatness and trying to hack everyone off when she wins that one game.
Thanks for the entertainment though. Since we’re all frustrated here, it’s nice to have complete morons come here to give us easy target practice.

Hey there buddy.
Sure, it’s fun to join a rival team’s blog and post comments that have no purpose but to incite that team’s fans. Who wouldn’t love to spend their free time posting comment after comment after comment about how another team sucks? That’s just anyone’s idea of a good time!
But hey, um, why don’t you go ahead and try to not do that from now on? You know, little change of pace? Mix it up a bit? Talk reasonably with everyone. Make some clear-headed points, the sole purpose of which is not to annoy everyone else? Try that out for a bit, see how it fits. Thanks.

I post on rival teams blogs
And I have certainly been a part of many heated discussion.
But guess what: They are actual discussions. We debate topics, present arguments, and at the end of the day we had an interesting time talking about college football. You, however, come in here like a little child and try to incite people with your juvenile comments. By the way, you’re a little late to the BCS party; we’ve already talked about Tech (so your assertion that we ignore Tech is incorrect) and other aspects of how goofy the BCS is.
If you wish to continue to be the immature brat that you seem to be, then go ahead, I guess: Like I said above, at least it will make us laugh. However, for your own good, take billyzane’s advice and you might actually have some good conversations on college football.

Who said Texas fans don't do that? I certainly didn't.
Fans of all teams do dumb things. Exhibit A: what you’re doing right now. All I can do is regulate what happens on THIS blog. You could have possibly come on here and tried to have a meaningful conversation about how you thought someone other than Orakpo was deserving of the Nagurski or about how the logic of some Texas fans’ argument against OU actually props up Tech when compared directly to Texas. And then we could have had a civil argument about the merits of your position. But you didn’t do that. You came over here to start a flame war. That’s not tolerated. See you later.

BCS IS a Joke, Here you can do something about it!
This year the BCS Committee has really blown it more than they usually do. Putting Oklahoma ahead of Texas after Texas beat them is ridiculous and crazy!
Go to www.BSFlag.com/BCS – they have an email system set up to send a BSFlag right to the BCS mailbox! Check it out!
If enough people send flags to the BCS committee, maybe they will take notice, and maybe then, we the fans, can make a difference!

Congress may force BCS into playoffs
So, it looks like two Texas congressmen are sponsoring legislation that would prohibit the BCS from declaring a team “national champions” without having a playoff system in place. I doubt that it will pass, but I never even considered that the FTC could do something about replacing the BCS with a playoff. Thoughts?

It has been brought up before...
This was from November 19, 2008: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/83717-congressional-anti-bcs-bill-resurfaces.
It is interesting to debate whether the system violates FTP with the significant amount of money that is generated SUBJECTIVELY here. The arrogance of the BCS is frightening. The coaches do not like it, the players do not like it, the fans do not like it, but the conference presidents and BCS committee do not care.
I agree wholeheartedly that OU or FL will not be national champs this year…just too many one loss teams. Again, no closure and no clarity for 2008. Thanks BCS for absolutely nothing.
