#6 Texas takes down unbeaten Ole Miss
The womens' basketball team easily handled their first major road test today, beating Ole Miss 74-50. The Horns were led by the usual suspects - Raven had 16 and Arriaran 14 - but also had a strong performance from a member of this year's surprising freshman class. This time it was 5-8 guard Ashleigh Fontenette from Pflugerville Connally, who pitched in 13 points, 4 assists and 3 steals.
Texas now faces their annual litmus test when the #9 Tennessee Volunteers come to town next Sunday. Win that game and we can all start believing that both of this year's basketball teams are legitimate Final Four contenders. I think we're still a year away (on both squads) but these women continue to surprise me game after game. A win on the 14th will no longer be a surprise, but it will be a challenge. The Vols are an extremely young team - replacing the entire starting lineup from last year's national champions - but have improved by leaps and bounds since an 83-82 loss to Virginia in their second game. Fans everywhere will be thrilled if this rivalry gets back to the competitive matchups of the early part of this decade. Some of the best basketball I've ever seen...

AUSTIN
8-0
Women’s basketball team starts the season 8-0 for the first time since 1987-88. Those were the glory years.
The real test comes next week as we face Tennessee (Sunday) and Arizona State (Thursday).
TCU 82 #3 Cal 73
Former Horn Rachel Rentschler scores a career-best 24 points to be with 10 boards to help the Frogs to their second upset of a top 10 team this season. So Texas will be battling OU for the #5 spot in this week’s poll. What is it with us and the Land Thieves and polls of late?
