Fox is about to announce the official results but Scout.com has Florida and Oklahoma headed to Miami. (Scout had it right the last couple of weeks and is owned by Fox.)

If this is right, Texas ended up with a .05 computer advantage (.94 to .89) but was a distant third in both the USA Today and Harris polls.

Glendale here we come. Rubber match with the Buckeyes.

No surprises:
National Championship: Oklahoma vs. Florida Jan. 8
Fiesta: Texas vs. Ohio State Jan. 5
Sugar: Alabama vs. Utah Jan. 2
Orange: Cincinnati vs. Virginia Tech Jan. 1
Rose: Penn State vs. USC Jan. 1

Wonder why we hoped…I guess the fan in us made us become blind to the obvious..I dont remember any championship game happening between teams from the same conference….

FAIR….nope…I just hope that going down the line “no quarters” is the attitude we get from Muschamp as a Head Coach…coz this will fuck us over as many times as you can imagine…too much OU or USC ass kissing by the media…and more and more I am convinced that out of conference coaches shouldnt be allowed to vote in someone else’s conference…since I think they think only for the last vote when it appears public…other than that they can run their own fucking personal agenda’s.

Don't think you have to worry about that...

Texas is going to WAX the Buckeyes. They’ve played two decent teams and two good teams. 0-2 good teams. 2-0 decent teams. Survey says…decent, not good, Tressel team.

Fox doesn't know the rules

“Utah and Boise State may not get a bid.” Well, that is not true. One of them will automatically qualify under the freaking rules. Top 12 gets you in if you win your non-automatic bid conference and are the highest ranked team to do so or are ranked in the top 16 and ranked ahead of an automatic qualifier.

Now, only one gets the berth but one gets in AUTOMATICALLY. Read the freaking rules, geez.

Unfortunately, it was a season changer

So many ifs on that last drive starting with the kickoff.

by milevin on Dec 7, 2008 7:48 PM CST up reply actions

You could even start it on our drive that got the lead

Even though we got the TD, we left plenty of seconds on the clock for them.

by goingforthecorner on Dec 7, 2008 9:09 PM CST up reply actions

That play changed everything

Crabtree’s catch or Gideon’s drop (however you want to look at it) changed everything this season everything. If it wasn’t for that catch Texas would be playing in the title game OU would be playing in the Fiesta Bowl and crying about a rematch because it wasn’t a “neutral field.” Like I said at the time of the drop, that play would go down as one of the most important plays in Texas football history. He doesn’t drop the ball and Texas would be in a position to assert itself as the preeminent program in the country. Instead it gets to go to some Mexican bowl game and whoop on a vastly over matched Buckeye team and some ugly trophy while OU and Florida fight for premier and greatest program in the country status.

OSU is not the same team as in 04 and 05

Obviously. The defense is not dominant and the offense is not multidimensional. OSU will be ready, though. The fans here (yes, I live in Columbus now) are PUMPED for this game. Thousands will show up even without tickets.

A win over Texas will justify their existence.

I sincerely believe our D will stop their O. I am afraid of our offensive coordinator. Does anyone remember the first half against Tech? The third quarter against UTEP? The first quarter against Colorado? Greg Davis goes stupid. His play calling becomes one dimensional usually throwing away the run game.

I fully believe Greg Davis represents our biggest obstacle to an absolute beat down of Ohio State.

Will we play with a chip on our shoulder? Do we want to prove to the country that we and not one loss OU, Florida, USC, and Penn State belong in the MNC title discussion? OSU will certainly have a chip, lots of chips to be sure, on their collective shoulders.

Shoot...

We’re gonna have the fan advantage I’d think, not to mention the clear advantage in talent and a superior coaching staff as a whole… I say 42-20, Horns.

by utlonghorn24 on Dec 7, 2008 7:31 PM CST up reply actions

Fan advantage?

Oh boy, you haven’t seen Ohio State travel to bowl games. Notre Dame thought they would have the fan advantage too. 80% of the stadium was Ohio State fans. LSU thought they wouldn’t even let a Buckeye in their stadium. 40% of the stadium was OSU fans even though LSU was playing a veritable home game.

As a previous poster said, Ohio State fans travel even without tickets. There will be more OSU fans in Glendale than there are residents.

Destroy the Buckeyes

I’d have to double check the stat line…haven’t checked it in awhile, how is the Longhorn Defense ranked in the Big 12? If we’re high, think about the offenses that we’ve done that against. Even if not – what we held Tech to was remarkable, OU’s “highly tout” offense without morals was BEAT, and the thorough whipping we gave to a ranked Mizzou was rather complete.

A Big Ten Team (I live in Minnesota) should be eaten alive by a Boom lead Longhorn crew with a bad taste left in their mouth.

by Veeks! on Dec 7, 2008 8:22 PM CST reply actions

Texas is #1 in total defense in the conference

you can find that at cfs. Texas is 50th overall, tOSU is 9th. But Texas has held opponents to about 500 less years rushing than tOSU (1379 to 883). Texas has given much more passing yardage, but then we’ve faced a majority of powerful passing attacks.

by whills on Dec 7, 2008 9:29 PM CST up reply actions

I

Think at least the coolest thing about this match up is at least the seniors get to play each other three times. How often do two powerhouse programs match-up three times in 4 years when one of the teams is a legitimate title contender? Definitely cool.
I know it isn’t really the endpoint that you guys would like, and I am with you in saying that you guys got screwed, but, if you demolish us, and Florida wins a close game against OU you guys have a legitimate shot to get a share in all honesty. And if Colt decides to stay there is a ton of momentum for yall going into next year.

by Cdubs9725 on Dec 7, 2008 8:26 PM CST reply actions

It will be cool for both senior classes.

And I’m sure Mr. McCoy wants some revenge for the beating he took in 2006.

Mack's vote

I give up….Mack has Florida, the team that lost to #25 Ole Miss at home as the #1 team. Why does he not have the horns at #1???

by burntup on Dec 7, 2008 8:58 PM CST reply actions

Because

he’s not an asshat like many of the coaches voting and thought Florida deserved the top spot after beating Alabama in a very close game up until the 4th quarter.

Having said that, I do think losing the Ole Miss on your home field should leave you behind Texas, OU, Alabama, and even Texas Tech for that matter. I don’t care when that game was played.

by StanTheCaddy on Dec 7, 2008 9:07 PM CST reply actions

Very much agree. Losing to Ole Miss is horrible.

by gahnki on Dec 7, 2008 9:13 PM CST up reply actions

Pretty sad when you think about it

Florida gets a mulligan for a HOME loss to an UNRANKED team.

Our loss was on a tail end of a historic 4 game stretch against top 11 teams. We lost on the ROAD on a last second play on what was considered by many as the best game of the season. We get left out.

by goingforthecorner on Dec 7, 2008 9:20 PM CST up reply actions

hey you better watch it

They are in the SEC, they are allowed to lose a game and not have it count.

45-35

by Hook'em13 on Dec 7, 2008 9:25 PM CST up reply actions

SEC bias

moreover, they did not want a rematch…they do not care about the kids or what is right…and it is just subjective with no closure…and if UT were in the MNC, I would completely understand all of the other one loss teams being bent…the system is majorly flawed. Just disgusting…

by Mulliganville on Dec 7, 2008 9:31 PM CST up reply actions

Ole Miss is not bad

Let me be the first to say here that I think they give Tech a game, if they don’t outright beat them. It’s a ridiculous notion that losing to Ole Miss is worse than losing by 40+ to OU. The Big 12 supremacism is getting out of hand around here.

by andy_wooster on Dec 7, 2008 10:57 PM CST up reply actions

Also

you think Florida should be ranked behind Alabama, the team they just beat on a neutral field without their most talented player? That logic is like Bender’s cooking.

by andy_wooster on Dec 7, 2008 11:07 PM CST up reply actions

Let's see...

Alabama’s one loss: #4 Florida on a neutral field.
Texas’s one loss: #7 Texas Tech on the road… on a last second play
Texas Tech’s one loss: #5 Oklahoma on the road (a complete beatdown to be sure, but it was still to a top 5 ranked team on the road)
Florida’s one loss: Unranked (at the time) Ole Miss at home (3 loss Ole Miss who’s lost to Wake Forest, S. Carolina, and Alabama).

But I guess it doesn’t matter if some of these games were played in September and October. Apparently those games don’t matter.

by StanTheCaddy on Dec 7, 2008 11:32 PM CST up reply actions

And of course...

I forgot to mention OU’s only loss. But we all know what the score was, who they played, what field it was on, and when it happened. Doesn’t matter if it didn’t happen mid-November to the present.

by StanTheCaddy on Dec 8, 2008 12:38 AM CST up reply actions

Maybe it's just fate
