Reminder: Fan Post Etiquette
BON is getting bigger and bigger by the day, with the quantity of Fan Posts being published increasing exponentially over the last few weeks, and so I thought it would be a good time to remind everyone of the purpose of Fan Posts. They are not for you to just post funny pictures, or videos, or links to articles elsewhere, just to say, "hey, check this out!". Not that we don't want that sort of thing on BON. Far from it. But if you want to post something like that, please use the Fan Shot function, which is located a little bit lower on this right hand column.
Fan Posts are for when you have something thoughtful to say. Note the word "thoughtful" in that sentence. Put some thought into what you're writing and it will invariably be better written, both stylistically and substantively. Moreover, there's a reason that Fan Posts have a minimum word limit. If you're struggling to come up with enough words to meet the minimum, consider whether your post would work better as a Fan Shot or as a comment to someone else's post.
Questions for other community members are sometimes appropriate, but there should be some sort of broad applicability to the question (i.e. the answer to your question should be something that a lot of BONers would want to know). Otherwise, throw the question into a comment on a related thread or e-mail one of the authors. Also, this is not craig's list. Do not try to sell anything. Your post will be deleted.
Finally, and I can't stress this enough, please scan other recent Fan Posts to see if you're about to post something that someone has already posted. If that's the case, but you have a completely different, thoughtful and somewhat lengthy take on the issue, then it might be worth a new Fan Post, but if not, then you should just comment on the previous post instead. That "BCS Declares Winner of WWII" e-mail forward was sort of funny the first time, and aggravating beyond belief the 7th time it got posted. Just think before you post. That's all.
I don't mean to discourage anyone from posting their own thoughts. This is a community after all, and everyone who is civil in their discourse deserves to be heard. Let's just all try to follow these guidelines a little bit more closely and I think we'll have an active, vibrant community with plenty of meaningful conversations.
All comments, FanPosts, and FanShots are the views of the reader-authors who create them.

BZ, thanks for posting this.
A lot of quality FanPosts have been buried by superfluous posts covering the same topic or two. By the way, does anybody know where I can get a Longhorn Humidor for a Christmas gift? I’ve been looking everywhere and nothing!

Another indicator
You should be commenting at least 6 times to every fan post you make (Don’t worry, I got you Acho81!).
If you aren’t, chances are it wasn’t worth its own fan post. Not a rule, but a decent guideline to observe.

Yeah
There’s been a lot of clutter lately. I think it will naturally die down as the bowl games approach and we get further away from this BCS and tiebreaker fiasco.

I'd like to add that grammar and spelling are important
It doesn’t take that long to check what you write. Use the preview button to help you get an idea of what your post will look like.
And please people, use paragraphs. They’re there for a lot more than reaching a page limit on that history paper you’re writing. A lot of the times, I’m going to skip your post if it’s one long run-on paragraph, irregardless of how interesting or insightful that it is.

And for those unware of the community stance on polarizing diction...
…Meekrob and BiC are ready, willing and able to defend “irregardless” in a manner that would earn a Boom Motherf***er stamp of approval.

Sadly, there is. BiC will fight tooth and nail irregardless of whether or not he is right.
But I don’t see why my buddy Learned Hand is backing this cause.

Let's stop the insults
BON has done an excellent job of warning and/or eliminated any post engaging in gay-bashing (e.g.,references to "Faggies"). However, almost as bad is the incessant posts of “OU sucks.” Yes, we “hate” A&M, OU, Tech, et al., but “OU sucks” is insulting, vulgar, repetitive, and lacking in creativity. It adds nothing to whatever argument you are trying to make. I don’t have time to go on Tech, OU, or Aggie websites, but if I did, I would expect at least a modicum of mutual respect and would not want to be bombared constantly with “tu sucks” or the like. Also we should welcome the occasional Aggie, Sooner, or Tech-fan who ventures onto BON rather than insulting their manhood, insisting they leave, or asking they be banned. Unless they are insulting, they provide insight into how others see UT and its fans, stimulate discussion, and thay also force us to focus and sharpen our arguments rather than merely agreeing among ourselves that UT should be the national champion of every sport every year.

↑ That is always funny
even though I thoroughly agree with billyzane. The reason I visit this site regularly is to read intelligent, thoughtful posts about my alma mater’s sporting teams. A bunch of yahoos continue to post adolescent nonsense on this site and it honestly detracts from my enjoyment of it, the site.

Is there a way to reorganize the site so fan shots can be see without scrolling? They are not in a good location and and not seen widely because of this.

Shake your BON BON....
As I was the first to “break” the “BCS WWII” post, I will say that I had enough wits about me to check the recent fanposts to make sure no one else had posted it. I do agree with an earlier post that perhaps making it a little easier to disseminate the recent fanposts might help prevent duplication although some people just get too excited sometimes and post without checking.
Since I have just recently began my rants on this website since the summer, I will abide by whatever direction the BON gods want to go. As a passionate Longhorn fan and pre-bandwagon Colt McCoy fan, I love the BON website and am all about “change”! :P

Just so everyone knows, this is NOT meant to discourage you from posting your thoughts.
There haven’t been any Fan Posts since about 15 minutes after I posted this (other than BDR, of course) so I just wanted everyone to know that you shouldn’t be hesitant to post if you have something to say. Just be thoughtful, that’s all.

Back just a couple months ago
A fan post might even last a week up there without getting rec’d. Now, they barely last a day.
We should use that as a gauge “for when things die down.” If fan posts last up there at least two days, we know we’re heading for the clear. Haha.
