not as strong
But Scottie Reynolds is a beast of a guard, to be sure. Contain him, and I think we win.
Ya'll have fun...
… my TV’s in the other room. I’ll come say “Damn!” or “Dayum!” at halftime, depending on how I think it’s going.
Yep, he's beasting on the boards today

He is killing them
16 boards??
I wish he would have come to Texas a little
Adopt-a-recruit: Devon Kennard DE
Phoenix (AZ) Desert Vista 6'3" 257lbs
would be nice if this were a tournament
I would love to play Davidson tomorrow. An AJ vs. Curry matchup would be a lot of fun.
Watching on ESPN360
Killer mellow music during the interlude.
May Colt be with you. Yeah, that's right.
over/under on north carolina references by vitale tonight?
or maybe he can give us a preview of the unc/duke game that is only 2 months and 2 days away?
me, too
I like us not letting them dictate the action- we’re going with Dex and making them adjust to OUR game, not the other way around.
seems like we're only going to Dex in the paint
might as well get Atch and Damion involved down there too.
on offense
moving james out to the perimeter seems to totally kill atchley’’s strengths. we can’t have both of them just standing out there. takes away our spacing.
still, not so many offensive/defensive rebound
they need to put extra effort to get those
Snowing like crazy...
here in Cedar Park (NW Austin), I’d hear anything about this from the weatherman…………which explains why its snowing.
i didn't know it's cold out there?
snow in ATX is rare..
Pretty.
I like this rotation, let AJ create with the bench, then put the starters in whit Dougas to distribute.
Found a new way to stay sober.
Drink when Johnson attempts to pass the ball.
timeouts during longhorn basketball games means somebody’s gonna get yelled at for not playing defense.
and it’ll continue all the way through timeout and into the first possession following.
thats great
it means aj will always play hard defense cause getting chewed out in front of scouts could hurt his first round draft chances
at the ucla game
rick took maybe four timeouts after our bigs jumped away from collison on the pick and roll and gave him an open shot. and during each one, he chewed out one of our bigs. and they wouldn’t dare say anything back or even look away. it was hilarious. and awesome.
Archtley needs
some tiger bam on his ankle and he will back to the court at no time
What does the crowd look like?
Is it pro-Villanova or relatively neutral?
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 9:43 PM CST reply actions
Ah crap
good penetration by Balbay but has to control himself once he gets into the paint. He’s not used to the floppers here in America.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 9:45 PM CST reply actions
floppers in America?
i thought all of the blame for flopping was going to the influx of foreigners?
by longhornscardinals on Dec 9, 2008 9:46 PM CST up reply actions
True
but there is a lot of flopping going on in college too. And we know college is pretty much 99.99% American players
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 9:47 PM CST up reply actions
and i thought it was the europeans that flopped, even in the nba
oh, and the oklahoma punter
probably 80-20 villanova.
even the casual fans with no affiliation are rooting for villanova, but we have a lot of alumni in NYC.
Ward has been aggressive
Given us some good minutes, but he has 2 costly turnovers. Still, I like that he pushes the ball up the floor when he can and attacks the basket. He’s had a good half.
Uh-oh,
Final possession of the half. This could get ugly.
It was productive this time
With Mason, Ward, Abrams, Balbay, and James, you have 5 players that are capable of driving to the basket. I wish we could see this more often.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 9:49 PM CST up reply actions
i mean you'd think so..
since it’s called the “Classic.” But it’s just two games.
by longhornscardinals on Dec 9, 2008 9:52 PM CST up reply actions
This team is DEEP.
6 points at the half, Abrams playing very composed, solid bench contribution. Nova playing sloppy, but Cunningham is killing us.
wright says nova playing "too fast"
hopefully our depth can wear them down in the second half and we can keep reynolds down.
Kind of what you'd expect
We’re outscoring their bench 9 to 0. Only 3 players from Nova have scored!

Jimmy + Lance foundation..
keep up the good fight!
colt on tirico/van pelt
anyone have a (non-espn insider) link where i can hear his interview today? i heard it was really good.
jimmy v foundation
i heard that all of the money donated is actually applied toward research. they don’t use these donations for administrative purposes, etc.
good cause.
why do we pick up our dribble??
this team needs to learn more ballhandling skills because very time i see anyone other than mason play with the ball, after 3 seconds they pick up their dribble. it kills the offense and it gives the defense an easier time to trap. if we just improve on this, we’re a top 5 team hands down
why doesn't Dex use two hands to dunk?
probably gets the basket plus the foul. can he not get off the ground for it?
by longhornscardinals on Dec 9, 2008 10:12 PM CST reply actions
I tell you what
We’re up by 7, but it’s really more like we’re up by 12-13, because our defense is just dominating them. They can’t score on a consistent basis at all.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 10:14 PM CST reply actions
wow, Dickie V...
ease up on the man-crush
by longhornscardinals on Dec 9, 2008 10:15 PM CST reply actions
flashes of some serious potential
saw it for about 2 mins in the first half against ucla. even if his solid production only comes for 3-5 mins a game, i like the spark he provides.
It seems to me like we are dominating this game.
The only reason Villanova is even in this game is because that Cunningham guy is on fire. You just can’t defend someone who is on fire.
Man, I LOVE our defense!
They just scored, but if we can maintain that intensity, we will win this running away.
No matter how bad you’re struggling on offense, a great defense can keep you in games. This D can carry us a long way.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 10:21 PM CST reply actions
Very bad shot AJ
Take your damn time on offense.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 10:23 PM CST reply actions
Bad pass by Mason
As good as our defense is, our offense is just as bad. As the season goes along, we have to find a way to improve this offense without lowering our defense execution.

PB, as to Atchley
In the last 5 game (not including tonight where he hasn’t scored) he is averaging 6.2 points and 1.5 rebounds a game. He’s only taken 28 shots and 15 of them have been 3 pointers. I realize this team is playing a lot of new guys, and is trying to find its offensive identity, but those are not good numbers. Obviously, the season is young….
What's the deal with the offensive rebounds
seems like other teams are getting a lot against Texas.
damnit, it has fufilled my predication
on ULCA game…. it’s a no easy game for this nova guys
Yes!
Johnson asserting himself. Great to see, and comes at a time when Texas really needed it.
I forget GJ is the mean one.
He can get more mean in three seconds than Dex in a month of Sundays.
terrible inbounds pass...
i remember when we used to have great inbounds plays set up for mouton or thomas… what happened to them?
OMG free throws are killing us
Then again, our whole offense is killing us.
Realistically, while I expect the offense to improve throughout the season, it’s not going to become a great offensive team. We have to deal with this all year.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 10:35 PM CST reply actions
Balbay looks like a sturdy dude
Seems to help his defense.
LOL Vitale going off on the computers
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 10:36 PM CST reply actions
As much as some people hate him (or are annoyed by him)
Dickie V undoubtedly makes some of these games more interesting.
Now I can see why Barnes is OK with AJ chucking up shots
Sadly, it may be our best chance of scoring. We can feed it inside, but it’s no point if they can’t convert their FTs.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 10:37 PM CST reply actions
No no no no
There’s a huge difference between AJ shooting indiscriminately, and AJ shooting within the offense. He’s doing the latter tonight.
--PB--
I know, but
Rick has essentially condoned AJ’s chucking in the Notre Dame game. He’s OK with it because we don’t really have many options.
But today is much better. He has 12 shots so far. Pretty much where it should be.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 10:40 PM CST up reply actions
Less so than ever before
I was terrified when the year began. He’s exceeded my expectations. And continues to improve.
--PB--
On offense, we're prone to turnovers
on defense, the other team is prone to turning the ball over against us.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 10:41 PM CST reply actions
Barnes needs to forget about AJ playing point.
He’s much better as a 2 guard who can concentrate on just scoring.
Just seems to keep being that way
Obviously, I’m no expert.
May Colt be with you. Yeah, that's right.
This Horns team reminds me of a typical SEC football team
Gritty defense. Nothing too flashy on offense.
Scrappy is the one word I'd use
Scrappy ball won’t win us a championship. UNC would probably murder our defense, but we can still go to the Elite Eight.

Great pass by Mason
we are pulling away
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 10:47 PM CST reply actions
To be fair...
Reynolds put his shoulder into Connor and drew that foul…not much you can do to stop it.
by HornPossessed on Dec 9, 2008 10:48 PM CST up reply actions
Dick Vitale has a new book out
in case you didn’t know
Nice stats for James
accrued in a quiet, under-the-radar manner.
Best team effort of the year
Incredibly impressive development of this team so far this year. Amazing.
--PB--
Hello Offense
There’s that sweet ball movement, penetrate and kick style we enjoy.
From what I'm seeing for the most part
AJ is ending the play rather than starting it. That’s how it should be.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 10:51 PM CST reply actions
that was fucking dirty
Reynolds attempted a reach around on Mason!
Ward has had some nice moments tonight.
Barnes was really stoked about Varez before the season started.
not sure what the disdain for mason at PG is...
he might not find the passes so easy yet, but that’ll come with experience. his eyes will open wider and wider as he gains experience.
he’s fantastic at handling the ball though… good control and keeps his dribble when most would pick it up.
by longhornscardinals on Dec 9, 2008 10:55 PM CST reply actions
agreed
we’ve just been spoiled. we need to not try to compare him to dj or tj. Ivey is more realistic and he is definitely getting there.
They're calling shit fouls.
They aren’t letting us play close on D at all, just calling fouls if we get anywhere near someone.
LMAO what is up with Vitale's tangents?
Inexplicable LeBron lovefest
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 11:00 PM CST reply actions
I like the hustle
but we should’ve taken it back out once we got the offensive rebound.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 11:00 PM CST reply actions
Cunningham finishing off the game
in a manner I approve of. Probably tired after a night of playing 1on 5.
if you're going to hack a horn
don’t let it be AJ
The ball movement!
The crisp reversals! The vision! Is this a Rick Barnes offense?!
I love it!
--PB--
I am pleasantly surprised
Offense still has a lot of work to do, but our defense is just outstanding.
I did not expect a win like this on a neutral court (leaning towards road game). Thought it would go down to the wire.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 11:05 PM CST reply actions
mmmm....tasty defense
For now, it compensates for the FT shooting.
Lakers down by 15 to the Kings?
My day just got better
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 11:06 PM CST reply actions
My day was salvaged when the Spurs beat the Mavs in 2OT.
It saves me from worrying too much about the 10 page paper I have to write that’s due tomorrow…
by HornPossessed on Dec 9, 2008 11:07 PM CST up reply actions
Does Barnes hold some sort of ridiculous winter break FT boot camp?
They could use it.
ESPN is making love to Curry
He’s good, but color me unimpressed for taking 27 shots to score 27 points. They barely beat an OK West Virginia team.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 9, 2008 11:08 PM CST reply actions
he really kicked ass at the end of the game
But he’s no Tim Tebow, and these announcers are no Gary Danielson.
Leading rebounder: Varez Ward !!
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
Nice words coach...
Texas should be the #1 seed at the south region
wow, i peeped out the window
every car is covering snow. i can’t believe the weather can changed day and night that fast
meanwhile i am stuck with texas weather...
