Shepard only offerred athlete position
WTF Mack?
I don't understand this logic. Why would the staff not even offer this kid a shot at QB? I can understand not lying to the kid, but what is the point of limiting his opportunities without giving him the chance to prove himself?

I thought the article mentioned it
regardless, thats the word coming out of orangebloods
likely he'll end up as WR or DB
Due to Gilbert's commitment it's possible Shep will move positions. But he will compete for the QB job before anything else. He said he wouldn't mind being an All-American WR or DB, and considering our coaches at those positions it's more than possible.
But
"I said that really all I wanted was a shot," he said. "Honestly, if I get a shot at quarterback and I don’t win the job, I’ll move to another position. I have no problem being an All-American wide receiver or an All-American defensive back. I just want a chance to play quarterback."
It seems he doesn't really have a problem with moving to another position. As long as Mack promises an opportunity to win the QB spot, he'll be satisfied.
This is a good problem to have, especially if say Gilbert goes down with an injury.

Shep coming back
apparently the discussions aren't over and he'll be back in Austin on the 23rd to talk with the coaches.
My guess
From the quotes I've seen today, my guess is that his preferences look something like this:
- QB Texas
- QB Michigan
- WR/DB Texas
Here's to hoping Pryor chooses Michigan.
The whole thing about this is...
Garrett and Shepard(if he comes to Texas) will probably be on campus for atleast a year before both see the field, becuase colt will be a senior. I believe that favors Shep because he will have atleast a full year to work on throwing the ball and becoming a better player. Sure Gilbert will have the same oppurtunity to get better but Shep is the more "raw".
I hope he comes to Texas, no matter what happens with the Qb situation it is going to be an exciting time for the football program.
What about Chiles?
Does anyone else feel like we're wasting Chiles with this setup? The way some folks have it laid out, we'd go straight from colt to Shep/Gilbert. I'm not saying we turn away great recruits, but how does Chiles fit into this system? Seems like a terrible waste of a great athlete.
Work him in Ramonce Style
The biggest waste of Chiles thus far was burning his redshirt this past year and not using him at all.
Mix him in at WR, tailback, return man, whatever it takes, use him and get him some touches. If its not going to be at QB, lets find other ways.

Its kind of crazy to think about but
Texas almost has to much talent. When we cant get a guy like chiles on the field...i also think that has to do with play calling and coaching
