OMG
Looks like we'll be missing the beginning of the game. Our game starts in like 10 minutes, and there's still 5.5 minutes left in the Arky/Miss St game.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 4:49 PM CST reply actions
Maybe they'll start running the clock
during timeouts to shorten the games?
This is stupid. They only reason games (FB, BB, etc.) last "too long" is because of all the media stoppages, but when they're worried about game length, they start cutting out play time. All that's going to happen is the media will want more commercial time and cut into the game more, until someone realizes that this is ridiculous. Then they'll start charging us to watch games, and still show commercials.
Plus, their scheduling is so tight
and they're always trying to fit things into an 'on the hour' or 'on the half hour' box. If they would loosen up the scheduling or make it a rollin' all day affair, like tournament play, they could stop the time crunch.
But, heh, common sense doesn't seem to enter the equation.
ONLINE viewing
is available on ESPN360, but if you don't have that, it's also streaming at:
And if you just want free online audio, check out:
Not sure, but it may be the BU announcers...still better than being in the dark.
It looks like just the end of the Arkie, Missy...
... game on channel surfing. Am I doin' it wrong?
no. It's streaming whatever
is on the regional coverage, evidently. You never know what it's going to be until you try it.
Shit, way is saying AJ and Damion are hurt
at the same time. AJ, they're saying, is either finger or elbow. Damion just seems to have taken a hit.
Johnson in, with mask over nose.
They cancel
We remain at DOUBLE EFF!
TV works!
We are down to Just EFF!
Great transition basket by James. wow
grew play to tune into.
Finally, tv
Horns up 9-4, off James bucket in transition. He'll be shooting when they come back.
Commentator: Steven Bardo
Over-articulates everything. This is going to be tough to listen to.
Connor Great Wall of White China!
Don't break him!
DJ dish to Connor, nice reaction.
He could have shot that just as easily. 12-4.
Gary
Looks like he needs that mask to supply the particular gas mix they breath on planet Johnson.
Horrible shot selection from Baylor
they're playing like the Warriors. Thankfully, they're cold. Normally those shots seem to go in against Texas.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:24 PM CST reply actions
Ok, yeah
I was about to say. That was a bad call. We don't want to win like that.
No
replay shows it was our ball. Bad overrule.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:26 PM CST up reply actions
WTF
If you're going to overrule the call, you better be fucking right! They were wrong, and then BU gets an and one.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:26 PM CST reply actions
Lomers
walked twice thre. Once on the catch and once when he picked up his dribble.
Two fouls on Connor.
I thought the first one was ok
The second was BS for sure.
Holy crap
these refs are schizophrenic.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:27 PM CST reply actions
Not so unusual in refs, unfortunately.
Horns are piling up inside fouls. Just don't judge head and body fakes well.
Anyone else watching...
... "Do the Math?"
12-9 Texas, under 12
Neither team shooting well. Baylor is ice cold from three but has been quicker and more aggressive to long rebounds. DJ hasn't hit yet but has made a couple of nice passes. AJ and Connor both with two fouls early.
Not the best start but not the worst either.
oh my god
the color announcer is terrible. i want to kill him. and we're only at the under-12 TO in the first half. this is going to be awful.
HAhaha
CARterrrrrrr
Somehow gets it to ROGerrrrrrrrrs...
Horrible.
Jeez, they are but the time delay to radio is bad
so it's almost grin and bear it.
See,
You know what the words are. I just know that it was good.
James hits three
got open off a Johnson screen.

DJ assist to GJ for jumper
Very nice start. Much better than the last time we played them.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:33 PM CST reply actions
Nice counter run to BU's 7-0 spurt.
Good shoot selection, too.
24/7?
That's an NCAA violation, sir.
Johnson misses a hook
Man, that's a great move though. If he can master that hook, he'll be really good.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:35 PM CST reply actions
Breathing Oxygen will help, too.
Holy fuck DAMION JAMES!
He is literally EVERYWHERE!
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:38 PM CST reply actions
Nice recovery sequence for Atch's bucket.
I just love great D and smart passing.
Nice sequence
block by James and assist from DJ to Chapman. Poss kept alive by nice hustle from James and then from Mason
21-13 Horns
Texas needs to continue to strech this lead while Baylor is cold from the floor. They will make a run when they heat up from three.
I thought that foul was on Gary
Proves how bad we get screwed when I feel bad for calls going our way, EVER.
This is awesome
Johnson playing like a man!
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:42 PM CST reply actions
Talk about flying bodies. wow.
The refs needs to rearrange their loose balls.
Inside Game
Looks good today. Long time reader but first post. Figured since I am layed up with the flu - what else better to do?

There's rarely anything better to do
even when you're well!
Hope you get over that crap soon, it's definitely going around.
Notice when GJ makes the stance after RB?
Assertion.
Johnson
Playing man-ball today.
He's really coming into his own
Come tourney time his minutes are going to be big
He found himself just in time for the Horns.
Credit both him and Barnes. Actually, we couldn't have waited much longer; we needed him to complete this team.
Hahaha great move Johnson!
He is really agile for a post player.
Baylor, feel free to keep jacking up crazy threes. If you want Texas to set an NCAA record in defensive rebounds, go for it.

Bite your tongue, boy!

OFUCKIT!
Baylor you suck Bear Balls!
Texas 29-20
AJ and Connor still sitting with two fouls each. Dunn is only Bear who has located the basket.
Texas must do a better job on the defensive glass. BU getting way too many second looks. They're eventually going to start falling. 1/16 from three so far.
Horns need a strong finish to this half. Don't give them a chance to draw closer. Texas should be up double digits if AJ and Connor weren't on the bench for most of this half.
Speaking of rebounding
Rogers already has 10 boards. Probably b/c of all their missed shots. Baylor has 13 off. rebs already. They are outrebounding us by 7, but it's because of all the long rebounds from their threes.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:49 PM CST reply actions
DJ
Need to get him on track. Looks like he is thinking too much about his jumper. Looks like he is aiming.
by TexasWhitey on Feb 16, 2008 5:50 PM CST reply actions
Gary Johnson
is very good when he can turn into the defender with his left shoulder and shoot with his right hand. Defenses are going to eventually realize this and make him go the other way.
Big guys
Producing nicely today...
And then...
... He just hands the ball to a Bear.
Fail at compliment.
Dex looks like he could take it in all the time
(If he can keep hold of the ball).
Good timeout Barnes
We need to make sure we end this half well. Can't afford to give BU the momentum. The opposite happened the last game even though BU was up the whole 1st half.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:53 PM CST reply actions
when aj abrams
finishes this game with 3 fouls, rick is going to feel stupid for keeping him out the entire first half with 2.
Good timeout by Barnes
Rushed Mason three - layup on other end. I love the way he runs a game.

Cheap Shot - Pushed James in the back
How can they T that guy up?
by TexasWhitey on Feb 16, 2008 5:55 PM CST reply actions
Refs are sucking this game
3 calls reversed and tat no call on the push was inexcusable. The ref was right there and watched it happen.
Why doesn't Augustin go for the block?
Worried about foul trouble? Oh well, that was better than an and one.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 5:58 PM CST reply actions
Gary + Game Clock =
OMG PANNIK!
Not a bad half
I will take the 6 point lead considering DJ/Abrams combined for 2 points. Then again BU guards did not do much either. 1/17 from 3.
by TexasWhitey on Feb 16, 2008 5:59 PM CST reply actions
Too much 1 on 1 basketball
We need more passing. Only 4 assists this half.
And we could use some threes by AJ and Connor.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 6:00 PM CST reply actions
What's the 3 FG % look like so far?
I'm lazy.
Good point
Too much standing around after they defend our pick and roll up high. We need another motion type play to free up some shooters when the base play is defended.
AJ and Connor for sure.
We still need to defend the 3
in the 2nd half. Baylor will keep shooting it and without pressure I'm sure they will hit a few.
Horns up 34-28 at half
Baylor hits just one three and Texas only leads by six. The foul trouble for AJ really hurt the Horns. Texas wasn't able to extend the lead b/c we couldn't hit a three either.
Good half from Gary Johnson and Dexter Pittman and Damion James. Great to see the Texas big men getting fed the ball and delivering.
DJ finally hits one in the paint to end the half. Hopefully he can parlay that into a stronger second half shooting the ball.
Texas is in good shape but could have been up 10 or more very easily. Longhrons need to do better job on the defensive glass and get to the free throw line on the other end. Keep attacking the basket and keep feeding the bigs.
I gotta say this.
DJ has something wrong, physically. Not enough to keep him from playing. I noticed when he grabbed his hand when he went to the floor that time under the basket. Maybe it's really nothing. But normally, when you have a consistent performer go south, it is often some ailment, whether disclosed or not. It doesn't take much to throw the timing off.
D'joo see?
That Tech dude get leveled after the buzzer?
wtf is that?
accident
the ou guy turned around to run the other way to celebrate and ran into him. ou guy stopped and tried to help him up.
but if you have a more interesting story, feel free to make one up and we'll go with that.
Well it was at least as bad
As Wingman catching what's-his-dump in the head with an elbow. We should sic the aggies on him!
Good first half
It is amazing that we aren't up more considering how poorly Baylor shot the ball. G-unit had a good half, nice to see us getting him the ball. I swear he gets better every time he touches it. The stat that showed how many front court points we had was awesome.
Mason's jumper is disgusting. He totally aims the ball.
I'm happy our front court
seems to be making some progress. I guess we'll see when we play the agrics again.
What is your expectations for this team
for the madness?
I for one (depending on our bracket matchups) would be disappointed with anything less than the elite 8 or a hard fought game in the sweet 16 to a team we just don't match up to well like a big front court team. We have the talent to go to the final 4 but I would be happy with less.
Thoughts?
Great pass from DJ
and another from DJ. Huge dunk from Damion.
Good start to the second. Horns quickly up 38-28.
amazing what a difference connor makes
to this team. block on D and then runs the give and go beautifully with DJ.
I think...
... We may be just a tiny bit deep. At least in games like this. Without Connor and AJ, we were up by six on BU. Not bad.
He just appreciated it.
Wow, nice little J.
Mason with much
better body control.
Baylor starting to heat up. And Connor with another three. And Dunn with another three.
Second half very different from first.
Games heating up
Wow - some good shooting coming out. 50-39
by TexasWhitey on Feb 16, 2008 6:24 PM CST reply actions
Geezus
Please kill that Dunn kid.
Threes won't decide this game. Discipline will.
That's the edge.
why did AJ slow down that fast break?
he was looking for the foul and one and instead got nothing. bailed out by diene's push on Mason.
Texas up 55-42, under 16
Horns up 21-14 in just five plus minutes this half. Both teams really heating up from three.
Why would he eat a booger?
Right then?
Geez.
I swear everytime I hear
a professional athlete speak I think of the scene in Bull Durham where Costner coaches Tim Robbins on what to say.
Gary
Shooting FTs makes me want to eat a whole box of boogers.
Does it matter?
As long as I eat them, Gary makes FTs. They could be elephant boogers, for crying out loud.
Johnson needs to learn how to shoot free throws
He's gonna shoot a lot of them over the course of his career
Baylor's hot but not making up any ground.
That's got to be discouraging. Great job by Horns to keep it from being a serious run, don't you think?
Both teams
banked their 3-pointer karma in the first half. Now they've got to be just about spent. Time to see who has the higher credit limit.
61-49, under 12 timeout
The shooting on both ends in this half has been unreal. Dunn is 3 for 3 from behind the arc for Baylor and Texas is something like 4 for 6. WOW.
mason has just seriously turned the corner
in last few weeks.
just unreal how valuable he has become.
OK
That probably wasn't was definitely our ball!
refs seem to be confused tonight
lots of call switching, questionable calls.
they seem to match the color guy's talent level.
Are we
going to not let that happen again? That was bad.
How many times ?
Are they going to let James get pushed in the back. He is goign to hurt somebody in Green.
by TexasWhitey on Feb 16, 2008 6:44 PM CST reply actions
This game has been at 11
for a good five minutes, now.
Texas up 68-54, under 8 timeout
DJ having a really good game passing the basketball. Texas is starting to try to bleed the clock on every offensive possession. With seven plus minutes left, this is a little early for my taste. As long as we keep scoring, it won't matter though.
Wrong but funny...
Kafka would have 13 dimes at the point by now, and Beergut would have scored 124 points.
Swallow the F'n whistle already
My goodness - they are trying to keep Baylor in it

great pass, swallowed whistle
should have been a foul on that great catch by gary.
Shit
Texas up 71-61. Gary has to finish that one. Need to run the offense and not just dribble for 30 seconds.
Lost a little composure in that exchange.
Barnes will crack the whip now in TO.
Achtley
I don't know if I've seen a player improve more from one year to another than him. He's gone from a liability to a solid player in all aspects of the game
Agreed
Never thought he would turn into what he has. Will be a solid 4 year player. The kind that helps build programs.
by TexasWhitey on Feb 16, 2008 6:59 PM CST up reply actions
AJ with another
three ball and another assist from DJ. AJ playing with four fouls.
Texas up 74-61, under four timeout. Texas should be able to finish this one.
19 fouls against UT 13 against Baylor
And we are the ones getting in the paint more it seems. Seems a bit odd. I am sure things will start to even out here when they are forced to foul.
by TexasWhitey on Feb 16, 2008 6:56 PM CST reply actions
Oh, no jump ball
and none of the four fouls on DJ on the way in, either.
Now it looks like we're getting screwed quite hard.
Missed foul shots and turnovers
Horns not finishing this one well. Back to back threes and now just a four point lead. 76-72. One minute left.
His foot was on the line!
Now four point game after two threes
following missed FTs.
I really hate slow down; seen it go bad so many times and lose games a few.
No TOs remaining.
We just sold our insurance policy. CanNOT give up any more threes.

That looks like a quite flavorful place.
The bartender would definitely fit there. Well, I'm going down and enjoy a celebratory drink myself.
May your road not run through Waco.
Another road win and nothing easy
Texas wins 82-77 but blows 12 point lead in final two minutes. Unreal finish. Texas bricks free throws and can't hold on to the ball.
Un-bel-ievable.
Horns now 21-4 and 8-2 in the Big XII.
I don't think I would have been able to take a L.
Aaron Bruce - Player of the game
Zero points, zero rebounds, zero assists, and one Chris Webber flashback.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 7:28 PM CST reply actions
It can't be that bad a day:
A win in Waco, no matter how ugly, Samson about to go down for the count, and aTm taking another shot to the chin. Fire up for Big Monday.
Might as well stop the DJ passing criticism
I believe he racked up 7 assists in the 2nd half to get to double digits. The choke job gives us a bad taste, but at times, I saw a great free flowing offense. I loved watching this team for 35 minutes. DJ with only two turnovers in 40 minutes. His value can't be understated even in a bad shooting night.
Johnson is gradually becoming that low post threat we were dreaming of. I even saw him get doubled at times!
Abrams - zero rebounds, zero assists, and 4 fouls, late turnovers and missed FTs. No doubt he's a one dimensional player.
Mason and James - their hustle is so refreshing to see. I hope James comes back next year for the sake of Barnes' sanity.
Mason and DJ both play the whole game, James with 35 minutes. I miss Dogus Balbay.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 7:36 PM CST reply actions
But you can't deny that late three AJ made.
He's been clutch the last several games, so there is some redemption in there.
disagree on AJ
he does what he's best at within the offense. he does way better this year at driving and making the two. he's an excellent passer as well.
remember his freshman year when he took over for Gibson at the point and ran it very well? he can do many things, but on this particular team, he's the third option in terms of handling the ball so he does what he does best: running around and creating motion on offense (motion that was sorely lacking in the first half when he was out with 2 fouls).
he's not a very good rebounder or perimeter defender, but part of that is not his fault. he's a midget.
this AJ-bashing is so last year. he's improved a lot.
He's a 1D player
You can call it criticism, but that 1D is extremely valuable to a team that wants to contend.
Playing defense and rebounding is not just about size. He just doesn't know how to D up.

Heartstoppers
That Baylor crowd had been a keg of dynamite just needing someone to light the fuse all night and when Texas sparked it with complacency, it still ended up being a dud.
We'll take the win for sure, but WTF?
Not sure we learned anything from that other than you can never take your foot off the gas.
Bruce, another no-show, probably the biggest stat of the game again. Did he knock his girlfriend up or something cuz that guy's head ain't in the game.
Maybe there will be some good come from this...this being that we'll have our heads in the game from the start for our second of three Big Mondays in a row.
If this UT team ever gets a nickname, I'm going with: Heartstoppers
They may not break your heart, but they'll make it skip a beat for sure.
Running a slow down against a team
with good guards is probably not the wisest move to have made.
Going inside for steady scoring seems to make more sense to me.
Should Lewis/Smith be getting time?
Or should we keep gambling and let DJ (and Mason in this game) play the entire game?
I'm assuming that Lewis is a good FT shooter, so maybe he should be in there at the end?
All I know about Smith is that he was a great scorer in HS. Could he not take at least a couple of AJ's minutes?
by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2008 8:17 PM CST reply actions
No and no
I'd rather have DJ play an entire game than see JD or Harrison Smith at all.
AJ needs to be out there about 30-35 minutes depending on the matchups. The more physical our opponent, the fewer minutes for AJ.
But, in no situation can I see bringing in Lewis or Smith. That's just my opinion, though.
