PPPPPPHHHHHWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you. I just spewed coffee all over my monitor.

I guess it was the beatings made me wise. But I'm not about to give thanks, or apologize.

Thanks for posting this.

Stupendous effort across the board for the whole team.

I covered Manzano from his first competitive effort, from the summer before the seventh grade in AAU, up until he went to UT.

He was special from the very beginning, but worked incredibly hard to develop his talent. Great kid, great competitor and truly wonderful spirit. And one of the most unpretentious people you'll ever meet. Superb intuitive sense of the race and when to begin his kick. Considering he is short (5'5") for the normal long distance standard (long legged Jim Ryan types), he had to develop a different judgment to suit his skills, which he did.

Leo is still growing and improving as an athlete and runner, still excelling every time he goes out. He has never peaked.

UT is missing a great opportunity if they don't give him the opportunity to break the sub-four mile with the invitational Jerry Thompson Miles at the Texas Relays. He ran it two years ago, but poor weather and a slow first lap killed the chance to dip under four. Leo won but in a time slower than he had run in high school. They should set up a really fast race and hope the weather conditions comply (first weekend in April).

I've actually been waiting four years for that to happen. In the traditional sense, I think it would be a prescient move in terms of Jerry Thompson and his history.
