First?

I'm hoping for a BIG game from Dexy.

Today's my birthday!

I'm expecting a good present.  Let's get it done.

by hornbone on Feb 18, 2008 8:01 PM CST reply actions

Go Damion!

If y'all ever do the adoption thing with basketball, I want to call dibs on Damion James!  Come on, big game!  Beat the f*ing mutton-lovin' aggie!

by bfaut86 on Feb 18, 2008 8:08 PM CST reply actions

Oh boy

James is limping; Johnson subs in

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:09 PM CST reply actions

God that was pretty

Inside-out two-man game with Gary and Connor

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:10 PM CST reply actions

HELL YES

The opposite of what happened in College Station

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:11 PM CST reply actions

Taking lots of threes early

It's good when we're making, but I like going inside with Johnson/Connor

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:13 PM CST reply actions

nice

Had a good feeling about this one. 84-62 final score prediction.

Gary Johnson looks good but he needs to box out. COnnor played good D but Johnson didnt clean up.

by Michael Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:14 PM CST reply actions

wow

blatant goaltend on GJ.  got a break there.

by billyzane on Feb 18, 2008 8:14 PM CST reply actions

Yeah

Can't believe they missed that.

That behind-the-back move by Augustin was sick.  Just sick.

We'll carry the banner high!

by TB on Feb 18, 2008 8:16 PM CST up reply actions

refs have largely

swallowed their whistles so far.

by billyzane on Feb 18, 2008 8:15 PM CST reply actions

Should have been a goaltend on GJ

Oh well, maybe the refs were distracted by his mask.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:15 PM CST reply actions

16-4 Texas, under-16 timeout

The home team comes out hot again.

This is essentially what happened in College Station; they couldn't miss. We couldn't hit. So far tonight, we're hitting, they're not.

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:15 PM CST reply actions

rick

Gotta love Rick. Has them playing their best 6 minutes of the season following two great wins. He must be telling them this is the time to keep the foot on the gas. Team could be peaking at the perfect time..

If we're going to play this hard on both ends, Rick needs to use his timeouts some more, even if we're going good.

by Michael Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:16 PM CST reply actions

Nice

Great work on the boards by WingMan and GJ

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:19 PM CST reply actions

AJ?

In love with the backboard. A&M bricking as well.

Man I hope James is OK.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:20 PM CST reply actions

Um... 16-4 Texas at Under12 timeout

No points scored by either team since last TV timeout.

Lots of bricks though.

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:21 PM CST reply actions

gary johnson

REally is an X factor for this team. The extra muscle and willingness to bang is huge. Wangmene plays hard but hes not natural enough yet. Doesnt know where to be.

by Michael Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:21 PM CST reply actions

Time for Dexy

Pace has slowed and we're getting away from our inside-out game.

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:21 PM CST reply actions

Not a good shot from DJ

I wish we'd get more shots for Connor in general; not just spot up threes. He's really efficient.

I agree that Pittman should be in the game for Wangmene.

WOO HOO DJ to James!

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:24 PM CST reply actions

nice

great outlet by connor.

damion james has been dunking a shit ton lately.

by Michael Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:26 PM CST reply actions

God I love that

Dexy with gorgeous footwork

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:27 PM CST reply actions

YES Dexy!

Had his man pinned. He's unstoppable when he gets the ball there.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:27 PM CST reply actions

WOOO

Nice screen there by Dexy to get James to the rim

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:28 PM CST reply actions

wow

that was another goaltend.  another bad call.

by billyzane on Feb 18, 2008 8:28 PM CST reply actions

Wow another break?

This one was huge, possibly a 5 point turnaround.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:28 PM CST reply actions

james

Perfect entry. Our bigs throw it into the post much better than our guards.

Theres Damion making aother silly play. Man, he's all but gone after this year. He's getting confident out there and there's no one really who can play with him when he's just playing.

by Michael Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:28 PM CST reply actions

23-9 Horns at under-8 timeout

Dexy giving us terrific minutes right now.

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:31 PM CST reply actions

He's camping in the paint though

I think he was called for the 3 sec violation

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:33 PM CST up reply actions

as good as we are

i kinda hate our half court sets.  some dj meets gary pick and rolls wouldnt kill anyone.  that's another thing we need to lift from the suns offense.  other than that...we came out for blood in this one.  lookin great.

by mattw on Feb 18, 2008 8:32 PM CST reply actions

First four minutes, last four minutes

Have been good. We got away from the inside game in between. Other than that, I've been very pleased with our half court offense.

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:33 PM CST up reply actions

dexy is the key there

the wide body just does so much.  like to see gary being so aggressive also.

by mattw on Feb 18, 2008 8:36 PM CST up reply actions

Johnson is very active

gets good position and Davis probably flops. Oh well, sort of makes up for the goaltend.

fuck that

Get Vlade Divac outta here. What a flop. Flop against a freshmen? Pansy.

Our transition defense needs to improve.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:39 PM CST reply actions

we haven't scored in a while

a&m isn't exactly tearing up the nets, but we're letting them back in it.

Nice

DJ finding his stroke

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:40 PM CST reply actions

man

What a program Rick's built.

BTW, anyone ever had this thought while looking at A&M's home court:

Jeez, even their basketball court reminds me of a farm.

Is it just me or does their floor look weird and strangely dark and farm looking?

by Michael Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:41 PM CST reply actions

lol

I saw a few minutes of their game on Saturday. Whitest crowd I've ever seen. Agros trying to get into basketball. Funny to observe.

by Michael Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:45 PM CST up reply actions

Turgeon's motion offense sucks

Certainly against us. Not taking advantage of their strengths.

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:42 PM CST reply actions

did ricky b chew some butt after the baylor game?

whatever he did is working so far.  normally it seems like a&m overachieves in these games but they're getting beaten to every punch and being outgunned talent wise in every facet.  so awesome,

by mattw on Feb 18, 2008 8:42 PM CST reply actions

when the hell

did we turn into a great half court defensive team?

by billyzane on Feb 18, 2008 8:43 PM CST reply actions

Slump?

Where'd it go?

--always Texas--

by longhorn00 on Feb 18, 2008 8:43 PM CST reply actions

It's a BIG Monday.

By constant pressure on their shooting, aTm is wilting. And DJ is really putting the bow on the package.

by whills on Feb 18, 2008 8:44 PM CST reply actions

31-13 Texas, under-4 timeout

DJ is enfuego as the defense remains solid.

Mark Turgeon is a fool, by the way. Agros running Tech's offense against us, when they should be spreading the floor and muscling us inside. Dumm.

I really don't understand...

...the college basketball hot tub commercials with the talking heads out of the arms.  Kinda creeps me out.

What a play by DJ

split the defense, could've shot a floater, and instead handed it off to Johnson for the lay in.

Wow

DJ can't miss

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:48 PM CST reply actions

WOW WOW WOW

17 points for DJ. Texas leads 37-14

--PB--

God DJ is awesome

Speaking of awesome, Dickie V will be doing the K-State/Texas game next Monday.

We are forcing A&M to some tough shots.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:50 PM CST reply actions

i dont know man

i thought kd vs. bogans/dove was gonna be tough last year but nba talent is nba talent and kd shredded both of them.  same kinda feel for that one i think.

by mattw on Feb 18, 2008 8:57 PM CST up reply actions

Love to see that strength in the paint.

All too often it has been missing.

And if Chappy comes around, sudden we have some real depth. Jeez...

by whills on Feb 18, 2008 8:51 PM CST reply actions

guys

stop talking about football. we have a top 5 team and we're playing hoops :)

by Michael Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:53 PM CST reply actions

Lewis should've fouled Sloan there

He's a bad FT shooter, assuming that we're even in the penalty.

What a pass from DJ to James again.

NBA scouts drooling. For those who think DJ return, sorry but I still doubt it.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:54 PM CST reply actions

Augustin

So much better than everyone else on the court tonight.

by funk on Feb 18, 2008 8:54 PM CST reply actions

aggies

suck. No PG play. goingforthecorner may be right. they may be one of the last out. probably not with baylor collapsing and OU just not quite good enough to likely seal a bid in the next two weeks.

i think we have 8 blocks this half. good stuff.

by Michael Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:55 PM CST reply actions

39-18 Texas at half

We had some cold spells, but it was a whole lotta good on both sides of the court.

And DJ playing his best overall game of the season, bar none.

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 18, 2008 8:55 PM CST reply actions

10 blocks, I think, in a half.

Now that's attacking aTm. I'm impressed.

by whills on Feb 18, 2008 8:55 PM CST reply actions

So far

Offensive MVP is DJ, but defensive MVP is whole team.

Stats may not show much, but the contributions of Pittman and Chapman can't be understated. Solid defensive effort for everyone. I don't think Barnes could possibly be happier. Maybe if he wasn't under the weather.

Lets not collapse though like last time.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 18, 2008 8:58 PM CST reply actions

Brilliant 1st half byAugustin

Not just shooting but also many great passes.  Not all the passes were converted into goals but that wasn't Augustin's fault.  Barnes went to his bench and it worked fine.

by Kafka on Feb 18, 2008 8:59 PM CST reply actions

Go...

Damion!  Soft layup off that DJ feed was beautiful.  Great team effort all the way around.  I am a lifetime hater of aggie.  This is what I love!  I am only drinking Pearl Light, but have a buzz anyway!  Keep the pedal to the metal.

by bfaut86 on Feb 18, 2008 9:04 PM CST reply actions

You know, I think Horns are just finding

themselves around the rim, both the big guys and the dispersion by DJ, Connor and James. So many options...and to think, a month ago it seemed to DJ and "what else can we do."

Just wow and then the defense steps up.

by whills on Feb 18, 2008 9:11 PM CST reply actions

Who would have thought at the beginning of the year that Atchley would be considered a valuable 3 point shooter and a force to be reckoned with down low? The dude is an animal!

Difference between A&M and UT

After the Aggies jumped out to a big lead in College Station, Texas fought back and stayed within striking distance for most of the game.  This game has been Texas all the way.

I have no idea if that really means much, but I like it.

by funk on Feb 18, 2008 9:26 PM CST reply actions

it's all clicking

Conner has 3 blocks in the first 5 minutes of the second half alone.  It's also no wonder he's like top 5 in most efficient offensive players on kenpom.com.  The guy has range, excellent touch, and is seemingly always taking advantage of the touches he gets.

More valuable every game.

Something came alive at the KU game. The Horns have metamorphosed before our eyes.

by whills on Feb 18, 2008 9:42 PM CST up reply actions

i agree

I think it was a huge boost of confidence that they haven't had since that UCLA victory early in the season.  Plus, I think it helped them see that they can still play with the big boys even with DJ not scoring.  It's going to be fun to watch this team as the youngsters like Gary, Chap, and Dex step it up.  Can they handle the March pressure?  That is the ultimate question.

by junglerules on Feb 18, 2008 9:46 PM CST up reply actions

I don't think the pressure will faze them

over 4 minutes, the freshmen maybe a little bit more but not Johnson. He will quickly realize that that level is what he's after. He can play to it.

1st Place, Big XII
9-2, tiebreak win over KU.

Keep it going, UT, no let down against Sooner, and go into Manhattan next Monday and get some payback for the football team these past two years.

If UT can win these next two games I predict they will go deep in the tournament: 5 straight wins against likely tournament teams, including a win over a #1 seed bodes well.

I posted a few games ago that UT losing at Tech after winning these next five wouldn't bother me.  In fact, it would probably be good to get it out of their system before the games really start to count.  Three down, two to go.

none
