buckner #4
Buckner to be the new #4.....
If this is true, like alot of us think it is, do you guys think he can hold up the tradition? I for one sure as hell hope so. Do you think he'll redshirt or play? Do you think he can be a starter his freshman year? I think with the lack of a deep threat reciever this year he's got a pretty damn good shot at starting. What are your thoughts? I mean damn, the #4 on the computer if shifted is $$$$$$$$$

How found out?
Did he drive by and yell at you, too, or did you read my comment on the post-game?

re
yeah I read it on your post-game comments, but I've read it several times elsewhere. I have absolutely no evidence on the fact just a hunch I guess. Sorry to jack your facts man...

Nonono!
Not saying you're jacking my facts! Just wondering if anyone else saw him yelling out of the back of the car. You're fine.

The poll...
Needs a fourth option that reads something like this:
No, He will show freakish athletic abilities, but GD will forget he has him for 6-7 games every year and he will never catch more than 50 passes (25 of which will be off the WR Screen).

huh?
My apologies, but how about a link (or an explanatory paragraph) so the slower people like me can tell what you're talking about?

You're not slow
It's just that some of us are hyperactive.
Here's what you need to know about Dan Buckner. He's a WR from Allen, TX. He is tall with good speed and great hands. He runs his mouth in an entertaining way (probably annoying to opponents). He's confident and seems to back it up. During the week-long practices for the Army All American game, he tore it up against top notch competition. Dan Buckner, at least from a size and talent position, is the heir to the #4 jersey that Roy Williams and Limas Sweed wore so well. He graduated in December, and he enrolled at Texas in January. Presumably, this means that he's been practicing with the rest of the team during offseason workouts, and he'll participate in spring practices. There are a couple sweet clips of him on youtube. Just search his name.

Re: "runs his mouth in an entertaining way "
He is going to be so fun to watch. One of his (semi)quotes is "It wouldn't matter if I was the number 1 player in the country. I'd tell them to create a new number or make me a negative 8 or something". He's very confident and quite funny.
As to the #4, I agree that there should be another option (not quite as harsh as the1austin's).
- Yes, he will be successful, but to fully live up to the number he should red shirt and come out with a bang next year.
Anticipation can be quite an addictive emotion/feeling...

forgetting DJ Grant
I suspect Dan Buckner will become a great red zone and possession receiver, and become a team leader, similar to the way that Micheal Irvin did for the Cowboys. The person I think we should really be excited about down the road is DJ Grant, who is tall (6'2" ??) but faster than Buckner. If Buckner tore up the AA game, I can't wait to see Grant. Since Buckner is in school already and Grant is not, we'll just have to wait.
And yes, they would both benefit from a redshirt year, given how many bodies (Cosby, Shipley, Kirkendoll, Williams, Collins) GD has to get in the game next season. However, one gets the feeling that Buckner is smart enough to learn the system better than Williams, the RS feshman, and will get on the field as a freshman

re: Mike Irvin
Oh, crap. So this means Buckner will be all coked-up and beatin' bitches down.

I obviously didn't mean that...
I meant that his personality was one, coupled with his apparent football smarts, that would cause him to be an emotional leader, something everyione complained was missing from the Horns last year.

That would be something special
If you've ever heard Troy Aikman's take on Michael Irvin as a teammate, you're giving Buckner some high praise.
He gives off that vibe of confidence and matches it with intensity on the field. I hope he becomes the leader you're predicting.

Theres only one #4
Roy Williams is the original and best #4 at Texas. He should pick his own number and develop his own legacy because he will not much Roy Williams' legacy.

The meaning of number 4
Sometimes, as fans, we get caught up in "who's better" or "eclipsing a legend." A lot of players will pick the number of a (or in this case 2) previously excellent players as a reminder of the standard that they need to live up to. It's not so much that they want to BE Roy Williams as much as they intend to play up to that standard.
