DJ vs. TJ
We've been blessed with two Naismith caliber point guards in the last two years. Both stepped up their sophomore years to be terrific team leaders, something every great team needs. DJ has proved a very good passer and an excellent scorer. TJ was a good scorer, and excellent at breaking down the D and distributing the ball to who needed it. Both are phenomenal at penetrating. To be fair, it'll take the rest of the season to decide the answer to this question, but it'll be fun to ask it anyway.
I'd make the argument that it depends on their supporting cast, because they are different types of players.

Truth be told...
we all saw a lot more of TJ including what we've seen from him at the professional level, but even without all that, i would take TJ, in a close race, based on his athleticism (despite injuries) and defense....both areas in which he has an advantage ova DJ.....and i'll go on the record for noting that if Boobie Gibson had continued his UT career the way he played his freshman year....he'd be a strong candidate for this discussion as well.

I love DJ, but
DJ : TJ :: Sweed : Williams

Whoa...
I feel you, Goingforthecorner, but it looks like ur sayin that Sweed and Roy Williams are on the same level.....thats a big negative ghostrida...dont let broken records and bad memory fool you, Roy Williams was an outright animal. Sweed is Sweeeet, but his legacy at UT aint on Roy's level....and i think DJ would be in the same boat as far as in comparison to TJ if he decides to leave after this year.

I think he was saying...
He thinks TJ was better than DJ is, and Roy was better than Sweed in roughly the same way.

Haha what BigTexBD said
I should've elaborated more. TJ is at least one of DJ's role models, the same way Roy was Sweed's role model. And also at least in college, TJ was the better PG than DJ and same with Williams over Sweed.
But because of TJ's unfortunate recurring spinal injuries, I think DJ will have the much better career in the NBA. In fact, I think DJ will end up being the better overall player in 3-5 years or so.
TJ is faster, better passer, better court vision, but DJ has a sick midrange game and can become a better true PG. Smaller version of Deron Williams.

DJ has been great...
But its not even close.
TJ in a landslide. I might even go so far as to say we may never see a point guard the likes of TJ Ford in Austin again, he really was that good.

Agreed
I think people might be forgetting what a force he was. My lasting memory of TJ will always be the comeback in Norman in '03.
Does anyone know of a way to track down a video of that game?

that was an unbelievable game
that was the year both teams got #1 seeds, but OU ran into Syracuse in the Elite 8 whereas texas didn't get them until the Final 4. that Hollis Price/Quannas White backcourt was killer. Johnny Gilbert and Kevin Bookout were excellent too.
just a great comeback in the last regular season game of the year. i thought we were dead down 15 or whatever it was in the second half. but TJ kept going and going and shut that extremely loud crowd up.
