On the development of retiring VYs number.
I don't know if this has been posted on before (I am relatively new to this) but according to Chip Brown they are planning on retiring Vince Young's jersey next month.
*The Morning News reported this week UT officials are expected to retire the jerseys of Vince Young and Kevin Durant next month. UT has already taken No. 10 out of circulation. WR James Kirkendoll and LB Keenan Robinson of Plano East wore the number last year and now have new ones. Kirkendoll is wearing No. 87 and Robinson is wearing No. 1. No one is wearing No. 10.

yes
I'm very glad to see this finally. I have nothing against Kirkendoll or Robinson but I kinda got pissed seeing that number on anyone. Good to see it's being retired.
Couldn't agree more, it just "felt" wrong.
Earl, Roger, Ricky, TJ. and now VY.
I think it's cool that Texas wants to restrict the retirement of jerseys so much, it makes it a real honor to have it done.
To restrict it to POY is an arbitrary process, though, and I think its fitting that a ground breaking athlete like VY has made that so obvious.
Here's hoping Cat Osterman is next.
This was a no-brainer
I'm glad the UT administration did the right thing and broke a meaningless tradition of only retiring NOPY's numbers
60
I still think that 10 should be to offense what 60 is to defense. I am not big on retiring numbers, would much rather have honored numbers like we do with 60...but if we do retire numbers, VY's obviously should be.
Confused
Maybe I'm just not thinking this morning, but who wore #60? The only defensive player who comes to mind right now was Tommy Nobis, but I forget what number he wore.
Nobis
Most recently, Derrick Johnson wore it for one game. It's just used to honor both the player wearing it and Tommy Nobis.
Re:
Why can't a number be retired, but ALSO be used as an honored number? Say Colt has two spectacular years, or Vondrell has three, etc. Why can't they wear Vince's # or Earl's # in their final home game? Just wondering why anyone would be against this.
