ESPN news interview with andy katz
According to Katz, Knight is just finished with his career and he has had enough. Its really wierd that it happened in the middle of the season. But nothing extracurricular
Wow...
this is probably more random than Sutton going to San Fran.

Something Doesn't Feel Right
I have the highest admiration for Coach Knight. Something doesn't feel right here. Why step down now? Health? Disagreement with the Myers? Scandal?
I don't get it. The timing makes no sense.
Health is what I am hearing.
Happy late birthday.
Very unhappy about this turn of events, but his son is there to replace him (if such a thing can be done to Bob Knight) and the team has to move forward regardless.

Another thing
Health makes sense. I just don't buy that he is 'tired.' Realistically, they only have ten more regular season games and maybe one or two in Kansas City.
Another that sucks is that Eddie "Bottom Lip" Sutton will now pass Knight on the all time victory list. What a joke. Sutton is nowhere near the coach that Knight is.
Thanks for the b-day wishes.
Tired
My read on Coach Knight is that he's been tired of everything -- three pointers, players half-assing it, fans not showing up, refs, cheating, soft culture, athletic directors, smiling, winning even -- besides coaching college basketball. That's the one thing Bob Knight has never shown fatigue for, which is why I agree with you that it's an excuse. I think he has health problems. Didn't he miss a game earlier this year for some unspecified reason?
In any event, what I've heard is health, and that's what I'm sticking with.

Sutton?
Are you suggesting that he will win 100+ more games with San Fran? Don't think so ...
Coach K will pass them both soon enough though.
I agree
If he was planning on it, why now? He would've just stepped down after the 900th win. There has to be some other reason
I read the story on AOL
And it really pisses me off that they've aligned themselves with TMZ. The whole smear campaign attitude TMZ practices permeates every single story on AOL, especially among its users. I've never been much of a Knight fan, per say, but have always held the highest respect for the man, despite his deficiencies.
i hope he's ok.
resigning mid-season isn't his style - i hope it's not too serious.

He didn't leave for health issues, he wanted his
son to get the last 10 games so that he can be settled in for next season.
He is exhausted and worn down, but not sick.
My amigo...
just heard Pat Knight say as much on the radio, or something. So that sounds as plausible an explanation as any, I guess.
Can't say I'm satisfied with it, but if that's what Coach Knight wanted...

let Pat get his feet wet
it's a good move by Knight.
I don't think this season is going anywhere for Tech.
I also wonder if he didn't want to do an 'official' retirement tour, and have people gladhanding him; not sure if he would have had the patience for that.
42 years is a long time; he got to go out on his own terms.
The world of college basketball won't be as good when we wake up tomorrow morning.
