So it was Major's fault?
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/07/sports/ncaafootball/07preps.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&ref=spo rts

Apparently, Darrell Scott invited a NY Times reporter to sit in on his desicion making process and when he did Pro's and Con's for Texas (on flash cards, how appropriate) he stated that Rucker stepping down as RB coach and Applewhite coming in was a "major" reason for choosing CU.
Not sure I buy that, but the article is a really interesting look inside recruiting...I love the fact that Colt sent him a text message before he announced this morning..."It's Colt, call me ASAP."
That is so going to be my new Text Message signature.
Sad to see Scott be a Buff...but after thanking the Lord that we got Simms and cursing the ground Adrian Peterson ran on when he chose OU years back, I realize you gotta be careful what you ask for.
I've said this before and I'll say it again...no doubt recruiting is the lifeblood of any successful program, but titles are won in the fall, not in February.
We'll just have look forward to kicking Scott's ass up in Boulder next year.
Plus, we got an RB named Fozzy.

It's not....
Major's fault. The timing was poor. The "CEO" made a good decision with horrible timing.

Seems so.
Looks like it was the lack of Rucker more than the addition of anyone. If Mack had been able to get the hiring done much quicker then maybe Scott could have gotten to know Major, etc. But Texas wasn't really a contender for Scott until Jamaal declared so it seems the timing really just didn't work out.
Tough to make a change in RB coach (especially from such a great guy as Rucker) in the middle of recruiting the best RB in the country. Regardless, part of me thinks that it's just Scott coming up with reasons post-hoc, but whatever. It doesn't matter.

Exactly, BZ
The reason Scott jilted us is the family pressure thing. He's embarassed to admit it and he thus attempts to proffer a more reasoned and objective rationale for his decision. That said, boy, I would have loved to land that guy.

Speaking of Simms...
Have you seen the job Tim Brewster (he obtained the signatures of Chris Simms, Cory Redding and Vince Young) is doing at Minnesota?
With a single-victory season, he has put together Rivals' #17 recruiting class. The guy has some recruiting skills!

Oh, and speaking of Smash Williams...
anyone else reminded of Smash from FNL with that NYT article? Right down to Scott speaking in the third person and the white girlfriend hanging out giving him recruiting advice.
Weird.

not really
i read this on hornsfans
but they're loonies over there and i refuse to post
the thing is this
if you take it for face value (because personally i have a hard time just accepting this explanation, seems like bobby bouche's mother)
but if you take it for face value
you have cu and ut ... in his eyes two equal schools
one had an experienced running back coach and that was a big tipping point
once we no longer had that
the playing field was again "level"
and with that ... all the other factors took their weight

Awesome.
That story was ridiculous. I hope he has a hell of a career at CU, since they have such a good program and a great running backs coach. Obviously, "D-Scott" didn't do his research on Major Applewhite and never heard of Ricky Williams or Cedric Benson.

We must face it, DS has a good argument. Like HornChamps said, right decision, inconvenient time.
He will be pondering what could have been after we play them in fall.

Decisions
If that is his actual reason then it's laughable. You're going to decide where you get your college education and chances of a national title based off of a runningbacks coach? I would have rather had him say that he wanted to play with his uncle than anything. He's known for the past two weeks that Major was going to be back so it's not like this was sprung on him an hour to signing his intent.

Seems odd to me too
But after seeing Rucker and Jamaal sharing a few tears on the sideline after Charles erupted against Nebraska, it's not hard to imagine why Scott may not feel as comfortable with Major as he would with Darian Hagan.
I agree with most others though...I've got to believe the family thing played the biggest role in his decision.
I think Major became the easy/convenient excuse.
Good luck to Darrell...minus the drama, he seems like a nice kid and I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision.

Seems to me
That he decided on CU for family and then came up with a reason to say no to Texas.

Same for me
A convenient excuse. I still like him though. Would have been so fun to watch him tear up the field in a burnt orange jersey but what can you do. What I love about Texas is that we are never short on talent at running back no matter if an Adrian Peterson or a Darrell Scott escapes our clutches.

Real Fallacy With DS Argument
Is that Rucker did not leave the program and could have been a mentor for him and have just as much influence on his life in his new role. Perhaps more. I do wish the kid luck against all except UT - I think he will be a super player.

DS is another Perrilloux
he knew what he was doing the whole time.....every coach has a vision of a national championship...obviously the kid does not value his career. i can not wait until the October 4th when Coach Muschamp and the Texas D lay a boom motha f'er on him. It's nice to know Colorado is producing NFL caliber backs left and right. we don't need him!!!

Not buying that arguement
This doesn't stink of a kid being an ass and trying to screw one school over. There are many rumors floating around of impropriety on CU's part. From his mom being offered a 6 figure job at a bank in Boulder to CU threatening his uncle (Josh Smith) with not renewing his schollie if DS didn't sign with CU. The most credible sources are saying that the rumor about the job for his mother has some serious legs and the NCAA will more than likely be contacted about this whole saga. I wouldn't be surprised if info keeps coming out on this thing for months, if not years.
I think the pressure of going to CU from his family was overwhelming and untimately, this wasn't his decision. It was his mothers. People who have met DS and know his personality have stated that when he announced it wasn't the "I'm comfortable with this decision" vibe that you would expect from this type of decision.
Again, lots of rumors and lots more will come out over the next few months. But I think this kid was at least genuine in his part of the process.

I was born at night...
...but it wasn't last night.
The minute I saw him raise the issue about playing with his uncle and his mother rolled her eyes or whatever, I had to laugh. She's been pushing CU on him since Day One because of her little brother.
They got bought and needed some cover and the NYT was a willing dupe. The concern about Major was a convenient excuse that sounds reasonable.
