NY Times Article About D. Scott

Interesting article about his decision making process.  Apparently, he didn't like the idea of having Major as his running back's coach.  Underneath it sounds like family pressure ultimately won out.  Look forward to punishing him on the field and its time to move with the guys we have, but it's a good read for closure.

This one smells

Something about the NYT article seemed awfully "staged" to me, even before I heard that Scott's high school coach said someone from CU made him an offer he couldn't refuse.  Now it stinks to high heaven.

Furthermore, putting Bobby Kennedy on a speakerphone and letting the NYT reporters listen to the conversation without telling him was pure chickenshit.

This is such BS

and it makes longhorn fans look like a bunch of idiots.  Stop making wild accusations of cheating with no evidence.

I know you are a Buff, so I understand

where you're coming from, but there are more than just accusations.  The Big XII and the NCAA have openly stated that they will be investigating this recruitment.  This is definitely NOT BS and it's not going away.  Don't dismiss it simply because you went to CU.  I'm trying to be level-headed about the whole process because Mama Scott basically ruined this one for Texas, but why is the question.

There is definitely evidence, even though message board'ers, like you and I, cannot produce enough to satisfy you.

Where

Where has NCAA stated this?  What press conference did the big 12 says this?

This is such a joke.  Colorado has problems making enough money to keep its athletic department afloat.  Last year was the first time in many that they were not in the red.  They just don't have the booster network to do this even if they wanted to.

Reading elsewhere...

...that UT President Powers is contacting his counterpart at CU about information relating to the recruitment of Darrell Scott.

There's a free thread at HornFans, among other places...

Ok

HornFans does not count as evidence.  I read in a comment on the Daily Camera website that UT was offering the coach at St. Bonaventure a job at UT for getting Scott to come to Texas, does not mean that I believe it or repeat it as fact on the internet.

I'm not trying to get in a pissing contest

Wells, I respect you and the things you have to say, but on this one, you are flat out wrong.

It's still very early and all of the digging by reporters hasn't turned up the "evidence" that you would like to back down from your contempt of the situation.  And to be honest, I don't really care if you do.  The fact of the matter is that there are plenty of rumors going around.  Do I site them as fact?  No.  I'm just saying that there is a lot of information that suggests that these are not "rumors".  The Dallas Morning News reports (link below) that Sonsini, one of Scott's HS coaches, eludes to benefits.  Whether or not I can find a link to suggest that the NCAA is or is not looking into this does not mean that they aren't.  I'm just not a Google freak and I didn't happen to save the link when I read it the first time.

I couldn't care less if CU gets hammered by the NCAA.  Scott chose CU and it's over and done with.  But if these allegations turn out to be true, CU needs to be dealt with as this kind of impropriety leaves a nasty stain on college football.

Before you jump down someones throat and call them an idiot, at least look into the possibility that it isn't just a scourned fan that is looking for revenge.  You may be frustrated that people are calling out CU and/or some of the alums, but this time, there's a reason for it.  Whether you like it or not.

The reason

is a single quote by one coach that has no context to it and does not state anything improper?

How is it that I am wrong in wanting some form of evidence before accusing a team of cheating?  Why is it surprising to you that there are a lot of rumors on the internet, and why does that imply that Colorado cheated?

Articles like this

are why I said it makes longhorns look like a bunch of idiots.
Link

Maybe what's most disturbing is that UT fans used to be among the best around. Classy and knowledgeable.

But lately, they've gotten a little spoiled when they don't get their way. They don't seem willing to accept a simple truth: Darrell Scott chose Colorado because of his relationship with running backs coach Darian Hagan and his belief in head coach Dan Hawkins.

I expect this kind of reaction from OU or A&M fans, even Colorado fans, as I know what a lot of them are like. But I expect more from Texas fans, and don't like articles like this being written and not being able to defend us.

Sounds like an excuse

Sounds like an excuse for going to CU rather than the reason.

what if

I'll take the article at face value.

I've been wondering "what if":

What if Mack had named Applewhite as co-running backs coach alongside Rucker?  And then Rucker could also be the co-running backs coach along with his other duties. The transition could have been made gradually.
